If you can get the doctor to prescribe it turtlemoose, Oilatum is fabulous stuff, it's all we use in A's bath now and everything has cleared up, if I use any sort of bubbles etc his skin starts to go scaley within a few days, and then into full blown sore bits.

Morning all, anyone's LO have eczema? Reuben has developed a horrible patch of it behind his ear, I had it myself as a teenager (grew out of it thankfully), a little bit has split and bled so I think it's time for his first doctor's appointment :( I just hope it doesn't spread. I think it is either itchy or sore or both as he is a grumpy sausage today, and keeps rubbing the side of his head :(

Scarlett also has eczema behind her ear. She has generally quite dry, eczema-y skin so the dr has prescribed Cetraban which is an oil for the bath and then also Cetraban cream to apply to her face. You have to apply 3 times a day but we only started yesterday so I haven't seen much of a difference yet!

Poor Reuben, hope the doc gives you some good stuff. I had to use oilatum in my baths for years when I was young, did the trick for me. Not as much fun as bubbles though!

  • Awww sorry to hear about the eczema turtle moose, hope it doesn't get any worse. I have psoriasis and normally it's not too bad but with all the stress I have been under latterly I have had a bad flare up. I really hope Niall doesn't get is as there is a 25% chance that he will inherit it from me:o

Feeling pretty tired and hoping Nialls sleeping gets better soon, he woke up after 40 mins last night, then again, then slept 2 and a half hours then woke again after 40 :( dh took him down at 5 in the morning and put him in the sling so I could get a couple if hours sleep. Seeing a nutritional therapy client tonight, which is an extra stress but could do with the money.

My sister left her husband Friday but went back to him a few days later, her husband took the older boy back to their house and she stayed with her youngest at my parents but the little guy was inconsolable as he was missing his brother. What a mess.
Must get up for some water so thirsty with this breastfeeding at the moment.

I've got eczema, but it's not particularly bad. It was much worse when I lived in a drier climate! I found that the cortisone cream works wonders to clear it up (although I'm not sure that's a good idea for babies, or indeed for adults really!) but for prevention I use an oil on my skin and make sure to stay moisturized. I use Marula Oil for sentimental reasons I guess, but suspect any cold pressed oil would work.

Thanks for all the eczema comments ladies.

I am just panicking because my niece had extremely severe eczema as a baby - she was covered from head to toe, nowhere was safe. It dried out, and cracked and bled. It got infected. My sister did hours a day of a strict skincare regimen - but it only ever relieved some of the pain for a short time. Her little hands were sometimes like claws, because they were so scabbed that they pulled her fingers in tight.

The only thing that ever helped her was tar bandages - we had to wrap her up from head to foot like a mummy, and she had to wear them for a week. The only exposed part was her face and a gap to go to the loo. She absolutely stunk to high heaven!!!! But after a week she woud have patches of normal skin...it would eventually come back just as bad as before but the tar really helped...and then the NHS stopped doing them.

Anyway I'm rambling, I know she was an extreme case, but I have got my worrying mummy head on and now imagining the worst, after seeing her go through that. Docs tomorrow afternoon though, at least they gave me a prompt appointment.

    :(

Ah your poor niece turtle :( no point saying don't worry, I know, but I'm sure he'll be fine with a bit of cream and stuff for the bath.

Laura sounds like your sisters having a bad time, hope things pick up for her soon. Amd you get some decent sleep soon too!

Just been through and put almost all his 3-6 clothes in a bag for the loft, apart from a few bits he's in all 6-9 now. I remember looking at this size of stuff in the shops when he was first born and being convinced he'd never get so big :o

Turtle squeak has eczema which we use dermol on, and we have a tube of hydrocortisone 1% cream from the docs to use if it gets bad. You'll be surprised how quickly it will clear up if they give you some.

I find that fragrances really upset her (in bath stuff) and some washing powders, have you changed anything you use recently?

Turtle, my boy has patches behind the ears too, but nothing else as long as I'm careful what I wash him/his clothes with. It doesn't seem to bother him and I often forget to put stuff on it! (Bad mummy!)

Have you still got that rescue stuff we trialled? If so, you could try putting some of that on it? :)
