Morning ladies, any sign of that pesky tooth sunshine?

I need some inspiration please ladies - my mum is starting chemotherapy tomorrow and I want to send her a little box of goodies for when she gets home as I won't be seeing her until next week or the week after. So far I've got a big bar of dairy milk, a couple of miniature nice bath things, possibly a microwaveable heat pack thing...any other ideas? And I want to make a sign for George to hold so I can take a photo of him with it, but I can't think what to write on it - get well soon isn't really appropriate. Maybe just something like "hi Gran, thinking of you xxx" . What do you think?

Edited to add: turtle I love homeland! I've only seen the first series though, are you on the second one? It's one definitely one of the best shows that's been made for a long time. Have you seen Breaking Bad? That's really good too

    Ah hugs hun xx

What about Love You Granny!! Either way, i'm sure she'll love it xx

  • Jedi I hope bf cafe helps - you're doing really well. Forgetting the weight gain, how is Niall? Do you have plenty of wet/dirty nappies? Is he meeting his milestones? There's soo much more to a healthy baby than putting on the chub!!

Yes meeting milestones. Sometimes would only have about 5 wet nappies but would have pooed a couple of times a day. worried that I would be forced to give him formula as a few hvs mentioned this. Bf cafe is Wednesday, will prob get him weighted as well.

Amazingly, my little man is following the line for the 50th centile exactly. However, he doesn't seem to be meeting any milestones so far. He's 8 weeks tomorrow and he still doesn't smile socially, stare at my face or follow an object with his eyes. I expected him to have done all of these by now. I'm not quite sure whether I should be worried or not?

He also sleeps for a huge portion of the day. To be honest (and I know this might sound terrible), I'm really struggling as I don't feel like I get anything back from him at all. He doesn't even seem to like being cuddled particularly, which upsets me. Having a new baby is nothing like I imagined it to be :(. People keep telling me that things will improve and he will start to become more interactive over the next few weeks but I can't help worrying and wishing he would hurry up. Then I feel bad because I'm basically wishing these early weeks away! Has anyone else felt like this or is it just me?

We're booked on a taster session for Baby Sensory later this week but I think it might be a waste of time as he doesn't take any notice of anything :(

I think it's really hard not to compare babies, I am sure he will get there in the end. Niall is nearly 3 months and I am already wanting him to roll over even though this could be a few months away.

The hardest thing I have found with motherhood is Nialls lack of sleep, I expected baby's to sleep lots mine doesn't! I get only really basic things done like looking after him feeding myself and a small amount f houseworh:o I have also had lots of probs with breastfeeding and get !!!!ed off with lack of support from most of my family and friends who just say give a bottle:mad:

been out shopping and brough another calma teat bottle 30% off in mothercare at the moment:T

Elelyn - I felt exactly the same, I remember taking him to a baby play group at 7.5 weeks and was surrounded by all these smiling, sitting up babies and George just lay there showing no interest in anything. I can't honestly remember when he did his first proper smile (bad mummy!) but I think it was probably going on for 9-10 weeks. The first 3 months are really really hard but it does get better. I know everyone says it but its true.

I know its easy for me to say try not to get get too hung up on the milestones and when he 'should' be doing things. Every baby is different.

Thanks Katie, it really helps to know that someone else has felt the same. I think probably the only problems we have are mine and not his, but it just feels so hard going at times. I know we'll get there in the end though (that's what I keep telling myself anyway). I'm going to take him to some groups as I think it will be good for me to get out and meet some other local mummies.

jedi please trust your own instincts on this. If you are happy with his development, he is gaining weight (at whatever rate!), then please please don't worry...and ignore any idiotic health visitors! My boy was 50th centile when born, dropped down to 9th after 3 days, shot up to 30th 12 days later, and has gradually dropped down to hanging out around the 10th. My hv doesn't like it as his weight chart is spike lines going up and down (mostly down!)....but he is a week off 5 months and I'm shortly going to have to move up to 6-9 month clothes as he is so long that his 3-6 tops don't meet his trousers in the middle! So I really don't worry about his weight and just look at how he's doing.

elelyn my boy didn't track things with his eyes at that age. I was really worried because his dad is almost blind in one eye and had a very bad squint (where the eye turns in), that had to be corrected by surgery and still they couldnt save the sight. He's 20 weeks now and is in to everything, his vision seems fine....some babies just take longer. I think he was about 10/11 weeks before he really started looking at things.

Another thing is eye contact. He would absolutely not make eye contact at that age, and even if you initiated it, he would turn away from you. It really worried me...and again I think around 11 weeks he just all of a sudden started doing it. Now at 20 weeks he is trying to catch your eye all the time so you will play with him ;)

Obviously if you think there is a problem, you should seek medical advice...but please don't get too down about it just yet - you may only have a couple of weeks to wait until you are rewarded with a big gummy grin xxx

    Hi all,

Just wanted to say a big thank you for all your advice and support regarding LO's potential intolerance. The HV called round today and was great. She really listened to everything I said and agreed that it all seemed too much of a coincidence and that everything pointed towards an intolerance. She wrote a big paragraph in the red book backing this up and said for us to see the GP to have LO's chest listened to and get some formula. She also weighed LO and was concerned about the weight gain (gone from 50th to 25th centile in 2 weeks). I was pleased about this (bad mother!) but it also proved my point.

So as soon she went I called the health centre and got an appointment with the duty doctor. We went through everything again and have managed to get some Pepti One prescribed. Downer is they have to order it in so have to collect tomorrow. I feel much happier now and hopefully by the weeked we should see a difference.

HV is coming again next Monday to see how we are getting on and we are going back to the dr next Thursday. Fingers crossed we have some progress by then!
