Welcome Amara
Tbh I wouldn't be giving a baby at 15 weeks solids, 17 weeks is the earliest recommended by health professionals because of there immature guts. So if needs be I'd just tell hubby and parents that, if it helps keep them off your back
Breast fed babies in general work through the milk faster, breast milk is tailored exactly to there needs, so there bodies can process it quicker than formula, so it means they are hungry more often/quicker.
How often do you feed him at the moment? xxThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Thanks for your replies
I want to carry on brestfeeding and I'm happy about it. I've already told them 15 weeks is too early, but DH says "we've both been given solids at that age and it didnt do us any harm", and my mum is like :"profesionals are rubbish-talkers, he's a big boy, hungry baby needs to be fed".0 -
I feel your pain
at least you're the one feeding him so no one can be wading in with there opinions.
I suppose if you are concerned about how often he is feeding, you could speak to the HV and see what they say?
The old "it didn't do us any harm" argument does my head in, people say it to me all the time and it drives me nuts, cars didn't used to have seat belts, but they do now, because there has been sufficient tests done to prove they're needed.
If you're happy with how he is doing, I'd be inclined to just nod and smile, where appropriate and carry on as you areThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

Henry. He's fab, we've had him for over 10 years and he's still going strong. And he has a smiley face that (almost) makes you want to do the hoovering0 -
Amara, tell them to... ermm, get knotted.
My baby is now 9 months and still isn't particularly interested in food. He's growing and developing just fine without really eating much, so your little one is certainly fine at 15 weeks! He has hungrier phases where he wants to feed a lot, but I'm happy to let him , so it isn't a problem.
And don't interfering know it alls really get on your nerves! I get 'isn't he little' a lot... no, not particularly! But the last one that really made me cross was when I said he wasn't sleeping all night and got 'why not, he should be'! Funnily enough no-one told him that, or his elder brother. And the person who said it had their baby on formula stuffed with cereals, no wonder they slept.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome.
I was going to write my birth story but I don't know where it goes lol - is it here, or the pregnancy board? Anyhow I was induced on Thursday the 11th.
I'm utterly in love though, can't believe me and OH created something so wonderful. He's breastfeeding really well and OH is completely smitten. We were let home yesterday (Tuesday) exactly 25 hours after bubs was born. I'm struggling a bit with pain and exhaustion - part mix of the c-section and the previous few days.
He's slightly jaundiced but nothing to worry about and one of his testicles hasn't descended fully but that is common too in little boys. He has huge feet and long legs but everything else is little even though he looks chunky, he is wearing first size clothes at the moment and the only bit it fits on is his feet lol.You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

This link is a (very long) analysis of LOTS of studies about solids and BFing babies. Print copies and hand out with a smile!
Department of health says:
At about six months babies are ready to be moved onto a mixed diet.
Try giving solid foods when your baby:
can sit up
wants to chew and is putting toys and other objects in their mouth
reaches and grabs accurately.
It is normal for babies aged three to five months to begin waking in the night when they have previously and starting solids will not make your baby more likely to sleep through the night again.
Health experts agree that around six months is the best age for introducing solids. Before this, your baby’s digestive system is still developing and weaning too soon may increase the risk of infections and allergies. Weaning is also easier at six months. If your baby seems hungrier at any time before six months, they may be having a growth spurt, and extra breast or formula milk will be enough to meet their needs.
And World Health Organisation says:
The World Health Organization(WHO) recommends that infants are fed exclusively on breastmilk until the age of 6 months and then breastfed alongside food for as long as the mother and baby are happy. Evidence suggests that as well as providing all the energy and nutrients that the child needs in its first few months of life, breastmilk promotes sensory and cognitive development. It leads to slower, healthier weight gain, reducing the chance of later obesity. It provides greater protection from infectious and chronic disease.
Babies breastfed for a minimum of 6months are less likely to experience colic, constipation, sickness/vomiting, diarrhoea, chest infections and thrush. Breastfeeding has also been shown to reduce the risk of ovarian and breast cancer in mothers.!
You see, it's not YOU being awkward or anything, it's been medically proven.0 -
