I give A what I have Sammie, so for breakfast, toast, pancakes, muffins, croissants, cereal just softened slightly with milk. For lunch, omelettes, baked potato, pasta, noodles, anything quick really. Then dinner he has curry, casserole, stew, chicken, salad etc.
If I can cut it up into fingers i do, but things like curry I just pop on the tray of his high chair :-) at first it took him ages to get the hang of it but he's fast now.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Jannine - hope poppy is ok. Xx
Yuk what horrible weather again!!
I think I really need to invest in a weaning book, Noah will only eat veg so he tends to eat the same thing most days. I really want to get him eating finger foods too but haven't got a clue what he can eat!! Help!!
What does everyone feed their babies?!!!!
Xx
I make extra of what we have eaten, blend and freeze it. He has tried cottage pie, chicken dinner and spag bol. Sometimes he just has his veg though.
He has toast, teacakes, philladelphia on bread and crumpets but doesnt really actually eat it so I tend to give it after his puree to practise with.
Oh and he loves bannana. Know it constipates some though but not 4 poos a day Aiden! XLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Nutella - thank you so much for taking the time to reply. You have made me feel so much better. I did try giving him some water the other day but he took a tiny sip, spat it straight out and then refused any more! We are using a dummy (something I swore I wouldn’t do, but there are lot of things I said whilst pregnant that have now gone out of the window!) so I will definitely try what you suggest.
Silly moo - thank you for your advice. It sounds like you had a really tough time. It’s interesting that you were told you can’t overfeed a bottle fed baby as that’s the opposite of what I was told. Although I think it was part of the ploy to try and get us to continue with breastfeeding. Honestly, if I could have I would have done but it just wasn’t working for us. I hate how people make you feel so guilty for using formula.
Glad you're feeling better about everything - getting some more sleep always seems to help!
Re. water - the HV told me that my LO would probably do exactly what yours did, but I think we're lucky - she loves water and would happily polish off the entire bottle if I'd let her
I think you're right re. the scaremongering about formula feeding - although in my experience the health professionals change their tune once they know that you're definitely not going to breastfeed and you will be sticking to formula! Then they focus on offering advice on FF. Like you, I wanted to BF and initially felt very guilty about using formula, but I don't anymore - I have a happy and healthy little girl who's thriving and putting on weight, so I will not be made to feel guilty!
Hope things continue to improve for you x0 -
Hope Poppy is ok Jannine. It's good you have a doctor you can trust at least. Let us know how you get on.
How is aiden's cough today sunshine?
George is doing much better with the weaning now, he had a good few spoons of baby rice yesterday and today I tried him with some mushed up banana mixed in which went down quite well. Messy! He's currently bouncing like a maniac in his jumperoo - we're going out for tea tonight so trying to tire him out a bit so he'll nap before we go and not cause a scene in the restaurant!
I'm much better today, just exhausted. I've not really done anything today and the days almost over and I'm ready for bed!
A still coughing....worse at night or after a nap. Will give it till mid next week and prob have to take him back again!
Enjoy your meal xLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Sammie, I have the Annabel Karmel weaning book, and really like it - we haven't started weaning yet, but it's made me feel confident about it, which is a definite improvement! It's got a couple of pages on 'best finger foods' - for 6-9 months it includes:
1) Melt in the mouth: steamed-until-soft vegetables and fruit, incl. carrot sticks, broccoli, apple and pear. Very ripe fruit, e.g. avocado and banana. Off-the-shelf baby snacks like rice cakes, cheese puffs and baked corn.
2) Bite and dissolve: potatoes and sweet potatoes, boiled or steamed. Bread, e.g. pitta bread, bagel, sultana bread - avoid crust. Sandwiches made with mashed banana, cream cheese, pure fruit spread.
3) Bite and chew: Cucumber sticks and lightly steamed vegetables (e.g. carrot) - you could try chilling cucumber sticks in the fridge if teeth are hurting. Cheese - but avoid very hard cheese. Dried fruit - e.g. apricots, figs, apple rings, mango. Look for unsulphured fruit, avoid dried berries. Mini meatballs, made from fish, chicken or beef. Fresh fruit and berries. Pasta.
Hope this helps0 -
Fluff - I got that email today and Jonathan is clearly having a growth spurt too. He's demanding food every hour- hour 1/2 at mo (adding to my feeding problems) and his newborn vests seem too small overnight! He's being weighed by the midwife tomorrow so will be interesting to see how much he's put on since Monday. Getting an Ameda Lactaline dual electric pump soon, so hope this helps. Moon paid.
Still not latching - got an appointment for next Friday for a cranio-sacral osteopath as midwife recommended this for his wind and latch (may even help his arm - fingers crossed).
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me advice on foods for Noah, you would think I'd know what I was doing having 2 kids before but everything changes and its been so long!
you're all so helpful. X
Nutella - in going to look for that book in eBay/amazon. It sound fab
We bought Noah a little oil filled radiator for his bedroom as it's always cold in there so we leave the hearing on all night then I wake up sweating!! Hopefully that should keep him warm now.

Sammie, you might want to have a look at the weaning guide on her website as well - quite a lot of useful stuff on there: www.annabelkarmel.com/nutrition/babies-6-months/weaning-guide. This is the book we have: http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/320666249760?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla I like her - she explains things in simple, straightforward language and is keen on healthy and nutritious food0
