Hi I was hoping that some of you on here could help me, I'm going to be an auntie at the end of the year and I've been buying a few things for baby and I wanted to buy some clothes. So far all I've bought are clothes for 3-6 months, I want to buy some for 0-3 but baby will be nearly a month old before I get to meet her and get the clothes to her so thought it was a waste of time getting this size. What would you recommened I buy clothes wise mostly been buying sleepsuits and body vests. Also what were the best/most useful and worst/least useful presents you received when you had your baby?
Thanks0 -
I have an e-mail from Sainsbury's - they have a baby event on until 3rd October. 1/3 off Pampers nappies and half price wipes plus some other stuff.0

Hi and yay for becoming an auntie soon!!
I think buying some 0-3 month clothes will be fine as a lot if shops seem to be lenient (sp?) on sizes. My little one is 6 months and still fits into 3-6 month clothes comfortably. I always found vouchers for mothercare/babies r us/ Argos etc really useful as I could get things I wanted when I needed them. My friend got me a 'babies first year' book which I really like filling in and looking back on too.

Congratulations! :j To be honest I would ask the parents what they need/want most or consider gift vouchers. Clothes can be a bit tricky - firstly because you don't know how big the baby will be (my little girl was in 3-6 when she was 8 weeks old) and then there's the small matter of personal taste... I also think most parents-to-be tend to buy quite a lot of newborn and 0-3 clothes themselves and might not need that much of those sizes. Another point I just have to make as so many people get it wrong despite it being pretty obvious (apologies in advance, as I'm sure you've thought of this) is to consider what the weather will be like when the baby will actually get to wear the clothes. My LO was born in May, and we received some lovely summer dresses size 6-9... she's now starting to fit into them and it's almost winter!
Most useful things we got were some lovely warm blankets (last for much longer than clothes, and a must for winter babies) and organic baby bath and body lotion (you know it'll get used). I think hooded towels would also make a good present. Least useful presents: too small nappies, lots of teddy bears, photo albums and clothes that just weren't to my taste.
But having said all this, what new parents would probably appreciate more than anything else is your time. If you'd be able to cook them dinner, take the baby out for a walk in the pram, do some cleaning, go food shopping etc. then I'm sure that'd be much appreciated. Those first few weeks are so exhausting that anything that gives you a break is an absolute sanity saver.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on!0 -

HelloLovely that you are going to be an auntie!!
Could you hold off until just before you get to meet baby and see if she is quite big/small for her age? Then maybe buy a couple of nice outfits in whatever size she is?
No-one bought me sleepsuits really, and personally I think they are really useful. If she will be born in winter, maybe a nice jacket or coat in 3-6? Also, bibs and muslins came in really handy for us.
I agree with Nutella abou the seasons and clothes, my baby was born in March and we had loads of people buy us sets of shorts and t-shirts which by the time the warm weather came they were too small!
Some of the best gifts were a sleeping bag (Aiden is a sicky baby so it was handy to have a wash, wear and spare) cot bedding and blankets, a dangly toy thing for the carset and a swaddle blanket. I think I liked these presents best as they last for a while longer than clothes did.
Enjoy being an auntie! xxxLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Evening all
we have finally got the cold here
he's so snotty, doesn't seem to be disrupting his sleep really but he isn't a happy bunny during the day
slight cough and I'm using the nasal spray to stop the snot building up too much. Poor wee man
He's 8 months tomorrow  so I decided to pack away the 3-6 month clothes as they're getting a bit too small and they're all a bit summery. So they're all in the case with his 0-3 now and I've got all the 6-9 out of storage ready to be worn. When did my boy get so big? It's flew in!
Hugs to all poorly babies and the mammas who are dealing with themxxx

Evening ladies.
Glad Aiden is doing a little better sunshine, hope he carries on improving. Sorry to hear your LO is off it now too Gilly, this bug is definitely doing the rounds!
G is pretty much fine now, bit of a cough but he's fine in himself again. He slept better last night too, I woke him up for a dream feed type thing at 10 then he went through til 3 and then til 6 and stayed quiet til almost 8am. Hoping we get similar tonight as I'm still feeling pretty bad. The thought of being up 5-6 times like we have been recently is not appealing!
I can't believe how organised you all are - ready for Christmas already!!!! I'm planning on hitting the carboot in the next week or two, charity shops round here are pretty rubbish for baby stuff.Newborn thread member

Oh boo Gilly
hope he gets over it quickly.
Katie, yey for better sleep!! Hope it continues.
We were just looking at videos from our holiday, can not believe how little he was. We both got quite sad thinking how fast he has grown up
Put a refil in his plug in so hope that helps tonight. He sounds like a sea lion when he coughs!
Night ladies...hope mummys and babies sleep well xLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea
