Morning ladies... Hope everyone is well..
Gilly - love the piccie, he looks so cute waiting for his bath!
Was just wondering if anyone can offer advice on expressing milk.
Now we've hit 5 week old I was gonna have a practice this weekend. I've got the Medela swing pump so not expecting any problems with that. Was just wondering when the best time is to pump and also how much am I likely to pump out?? Is it going to be enough for a full feed to start with, or will it just be small amounts?
Thanks in advance x0 -
Jen, if you've never pumped before, dont expect gallons of it
It sounds silly, but to get the most out, you need to get a little soppy! Your baby triggers hormones that help you relax, produce milk and release milk. The pump is just a pump. Try to relax yourself first, massage your breasts (motion always towards the nipple), look at pictures of your baby (or the real thing) and just generally get chilled out and in a baby-loving bubble. That way you've tricked your body in to doing the hormone part, and the pump can do the pumping part.
There is definitely a bit of a knack to it though and don't be disheartened if you only get a little (or nothing) on the first few goes.
sammie you asked if me and OH had spoken, funny enough we did.A little bit this morning. He had been snuggling behind me which was so nice as i do miss him. However the kind of rows we had, the kind of things that were said....they cant be put right with a nice cuddle, they need discussing and resolving, otherwise for me they will always be bubbling under the surface. He thinks im trying to drag it all back up an have another argument and thinks I should let it go. We do not understand each others point of view at all. Back to stalemate0 -
Thanks Turtle... I had visions of me being hooked up like Milka the cow... I'll know not to be disheartened if only a dribble comes out!0

Turtlemoose - I'm the same, I think things should be talked about whereas OH would just act as though nothing was said, my OH has a really bad temper at times and has said some nasty stuff that even now still hurts when I think about it as you can't take back words. Hope things get better for you. Xx:)DS1 10yrs

Morning ladies!
Well done on the crawling Aiden
Nutella hope your LO feels better soon. I'm really not looking forward to jabs here
Hugs turtle, it's hard to sometimes sweep argue, ents under the carpet. I think it's normally me that likes to discuss things and OH just like to move on here soi know what you mean, he's a lot more forgiving than me too I guess. At least he's trying to be close and support you a bit. glad you've at least found a baby sitter at least one things off your mind.
Thanks Turtle for that advice. I'm planning to try out my pump later, got the medela mini one. Bit scared of it tbh, but I would be gutted if only a tiny amount came out so I know to be prepared for that now.
Loving the beautiful pictures, still not worked out how to upload with this Flickr thing - will get OH to look as he's actually getting some sleep and I'm just daft these days!
I met one of the girls from our antenatal class yday for coffee and cake. Wow it reminds me why I don't go often, but still it's a nice treat. We've said that once she has her bubba we'll go to a couple of mum and baby groups together so is nice to have someone in the same town.
Having a lazy morning here just fed bubs so he's sleeping, I might doze some more. OH is working this morning so taking advantage of the quiet
Hope everyone has a good weekend, is sunny here so hope others are also enjoying the nice weather xx:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j

Hi all, lovely pic gilly!
Thanks for messages re George being under the weather - about 15 mins after I posted that I heard the cot rattling and went in to see him and he'd wriggled around so he was sideways across the cot, comforter grabbed in one hand, rucked up blanket in the other and a huge grin on his face. Someone feeling better I think! He's been all smiles today too. Still got green poop though, if it's the same by Monday I'm taking him to the docs.
Re expressing I've always found it easier first thing in the morning.
If anyone's interested Argos have a baby event on at the mo, I've not really looked at but fil just sent me the link

For the first time pumpers again, its a little tricky, but if you can manage it, pump while feeding. I do it by making a pile of cushions to my side, lay Reuben on them and feed him like he's a rugby ball (if I have him across me he kicks the bottle!), that way you have a hand free and space to put your pumping bits AND you get the added bonus of baby triggers your letdown for you and your body just thinks two babies....I just got almost 5oz in just 7 mins while feeding R... But I have pumped lots of times before.
I second Katie in daytime being best, I struggle to get much at all in the evenings, not worth sterilising everything for it!!
And Argos, I got his from the pregnancy thread... Matching cot bumper and quilt (ok so he can't have the quilt til he's one but it's a bargain!) for £7.98 due to it being on sale but there's an extra £10 off offer which still works. I got mine yesterday and they are lovely, and very :money: at that price!

Jen -my lo is 4weeks today so I will be starting to pump with the Medea soon as well. I have pumped before though-I managed to get 50ml a few weeks ago in one go so didnt think about not getting enough. Being a problem.
I am going to get advice from the local hospital re pumping as I have lots of questions and they have a drop in clinic.
Bit of a nightmare night gain with Niall took us 3hours to get hi, off to a sound sleep.
Me & dh took a walk to local garden centre had tea and cake, we then had family visit at 1pm. Going to get some lunch in a bit then try &get my thank you cards for gifts sorted on line.

sammie and LMM thanks for letting me know its not just me being a crazy new mum hormonal lady! Some things I do agree you can just have a cuddle and say sorry and its done. But telling me to f off in front of his son, calling me a !!!!!! in front of my dad, and storming off telling me the relationship is over....those things arent forgotten with a cuddle, there's something emotionally wrong with you if you think that behaviour is acceptable. I know he gets it from his mum, as she often says things that are downright spiteful, but then buys me a top or buys Reuben something, and apparently that's ok then, and you cant pull either of them up on it because then you are the bad guy for dragging out the argument. It's bordering on emotional abuse, and I don't want reuben growing up thinking that behaviour is normal or acceptable.0
