I second the changing them at bedtime still, def makes them realise its something different. I also used to always give them a quick bath every night, even just a 2 min dip made a difference.
For the dry skin, DD1 had ezcema, and nothing the drs gave me worked (eventually found out it was dairy intolerance) anyhoo, i found Talcum powder actually helped ALOT as it takes the moisture off their skin which can also then make it sore and dry out. If that makes sense?? Obviously dont use it on broken skin tho. DD1 has really sensitive skin, is even unable to use the antihistamine cream Benadryll as she is allergic! lolx x

Alison really glad Ewan has arrived! We use his front left leg noise. I think my little boy is brewing yet another cold too so here comes another bad phase :-(. I hope Ewanbrings you luck too and D has a good night x

Wishing everyone a successful night too x
  • Thanks doglover Ewan is absolutely his favourite new toy. I put him in his cot for his night time sleep and left him for a while. Came back and he had got an arm out of his swaddling and had pulled Ewan towards him. Was trying to eat him again! Left him for another while and could hear him chatting away to him and then he just put himself to sleep. Think I had it on the harp setting. Heard a few excited squeaks down the monitor a little while ago, makes a change from crying! Have left one arm unswaddled so we will see how we get on tonight!
Hope your LO gets over the cold quickly and doesn't have a disturbed night!

So yesterday was day 1 of bath feed bed routine for Finn, didn't go well... chucked him in the bath at 8pm with the Johnsons sleepy time bath stuff, pj's on the radiator nice and warm for afterwards - that all went fine, into his grobag for a feed, fed him lying down for a good 20 mins and then he dozed off (cue me almost jumping for joy it had gone so well) so I went to pick him up to put him in his cot. Which is where it went wrong. He woke up and then screamed for the next two hours, fed another two times before he finally gave in at about 10.30pm (which is the time pre-routine he would normally sleep *roll eyes*) all in all I think the whole process upset him so much that caused him to have a really carp night, up at 1am, 3am, 4.15am and 6am. I'm expecting him to be absolutely shattered today because he was awake all day yesterday - even in the car on the school runs, he didn't even dose off until 8pm!

Winnie - this is exactly what I do each night, been on this routine for 5 days now and its going well so far, luckily he hasn't woken when I put him down, sorry that happened to you. The only difference is when I feed him to sleep I then burp him over my shoulder as then its easier and less likely to wake him up when I put him down to sleep, not sure if that will help you?
doglover my samuel loves sucking his hands/thumbs was just wondering though does your little ones hands get freezing of a night time, i still have to put samuels mits on , when he has worked them off in the night his hands are always soooo cold

A couple of people mentioned gro bags and putting mitts on their hands to keep hands warm, thought I would show you all the gro bag we use as it has bits to cover their hands within the bag itself which is brilliant my boys hands always get cold and now its lovely, I bought it from kiddicare here and can highly recommend it:

I have a random question for you all... when you have met your baby's needs, i.e not hungry or wet or anything, what do you do with him/her? I have a 6 week old, and I put him in the rocking chair for a bit or his play mat until he starts grumping, but then what do I do with him? It sounds silly I know! :o

Kira - if you have a minute, could you add us to the list:
    Baby boy - Nathaniel - 5th December 2011 - 7lb 5oz

    Thanks

I got a copy of The Baby Whisperer out of the library yesterday, have read the chapter on EASY - has anyone tried it?

Yes, we are doing this and have been since he was born ( he is 6 weeks). It works well for us and gives some kind of little plan to our days, altho it almost always goes out the window when we leave the house, but when I'm home I always follow the plan, overnight tho I do eat, activity (nappy change), eat, sleep so EAES. In the day, I do eat, activity (bouncy chair), sleep, your time EASY.

Kat, I put Katie on the play mat for a bit, she has a bubble tube and mirrors to entertain her, when she starts grouching I put her in the swing chair, then back to the mat where I play with her with her toys, then leave her to to watch the bubble tube again, then pick her up and walk her around the house chatting away to her. If I'm in the kitchen I take her swing seat in and chat away to her about what I am doing. It can be pretty tiring if she is having a grizzly day.

Does anyone have any advice about a noisy sleeper? I am really struggling to get some sleep as Katie is just so restless and noisy, she snorts, squeaks, grunts and groans for much of the night. She also seems to get mucus in the back of her nose/throat which I think disturbs her sleep. So I end up getting up with her and holding her upright to drain the mucus away, then I can't get back to sleep.
