Hey mozzy! Glad Charlie is coming on so well. Do miss you on here :p

Hi sammie, glad camping was good. Aiden has cow and gate banana porridge, its difficult as he has his first bottle at 530-6 then sleeps till 730, so give him brekkie at 830 and then he has been having a milk about 11. Enjoy baby group.

Got lots of washing to get through myself as it rained here yday so held off doing it! Xxx

I don't come on here very much these days as it's rubbish on my phone, and I rarely have time to turn the computer on!

However, I spotted Rebekah's post and wanted to respond as that could have been me writing just a few weeks ago!

Rebekah, firstly, you are not weird at all. There is so much pressure on us to feel that all-consuming love that you read about, but the fact is, not everyone gets it. I can honestly say that I didn't feel any particular love for William when he was first born. In fact I've only very felt my heart melt in the 2 or 3 weeks, since he's started to smile and respond to me etc. He is 9 weeks today, so I had a good 6 weeks or so of feeling like sh*t, guilty as hell and thinking I was losing the plot. "Watch - poss PND" is written all over my notes, every medical professional I see asks how I'm feeling emotionally and it's starting to do my nut now! But yes, I did feel like I was standing on a cliff edge with my toes over the edge, and it was only through the support of the lovely MSE ladies on the facebook group that coaxed me away from the edge and away from PND!

It's ok to mention it to the doctor/HV if you haven't already. They won't judge you or report you to social services or anything like that! But they may well be able to help.

However, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you turn a corner in the next couple of weeks, it might happen quite suddenly. It may have been coincidence, but for me I felt so much better when William started being less demanding, and that started to happen from 6 weeks. At 6 weeks I thought enough is enough, and started "forcing" him into some kind of routine. The result is a happier baby and a happier mummy, so might be worth seeing if you can encourage baby girl into going slightly longer between feeds, establishing a bedtime routine etc.

Honestly, you probably won't believe me but William was a complete nightmare for the first 6 weeks - he cried every waking hour that he wasn't on my boob, feeding every 2 hours, sleeping in little catnaps etc. I hated being a mum and thought he hated me! It does get better, I promise you.

One more thing to add - last week the doc diagnosed him with likely reflux, and prescribed gaviscon. He has been much more settled, has been taking expressed milk from a bottle, which he'd never done before, and has generally been happier. He has even started waking only once during the night - best thing ever! So again, speak to the doctor and see if they can help.

Sorry to go on for so long, but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone, even though it does seem like it, particularly in the midst of those long, dreaded nights! ((hugs)), and feel free to message me on FB anytime.

    BB x

p.s. Hello to fluffnutter, and anyone else I "know" that hasn't been on the FB group! Hope you're doing ok :)

Sunshine - I think I'm going to start Noah on breakfast in September when the boys go back to school as we will be in a better routine, I was looking at the packets of baby cereal in Asda the other day and they seem to do a nice variety.

Well done to Charlie and Poppy for their respective sitting/rolling! George can get rolled on to his side now, but doesn't seem particularly fussed about trying to get all the way over just yet.

Out of interest do many of you ladies give your LOs a dummy? I've just given George one and hes almost instantly dropped off to sleep with it! I guess it makes sense as hes used to being fed to sleep so atleast now he still has something to suck on. Just hope this doesn't mean I'm going to be up and down constantly putting it back in when he spits it out! But for the time being atleast he went to sleep in his cot on his own for once, I guess you can't have everything!

How do you find the fb group?

  • I'm not on fb katie. Aiden has had a dummy since day 5 :o he loves it, he has it just to drop off with and then spits it out.

Went to asda this morning and they have a clothes sale, got afew tops and jumpers which should be good for when he starts nursery.

Katie OH and I were talking about dummies last night! When pregnant, we had always intended bubs to have one (after reading it reduces risk of SIDS), but with the hospital saga it never happened and then we forgot. We've decided that as we've got this far (11 weeks today!) without one, we aren't going to give one at the mo...but open to changing our minds if the situation calls for it. I'm slightly worried it will affect BFing, and feel bad about lack of weight gain (thanks HV!) so I'm nervous about it. I'll be watching with interest to see how you get on.

Ladies who have already done dummies....how long did you or do you intend to keep them? I've read you should get rid by one year, but then another place said get rid by 6 months...conflicting advice as always :o

One of the books I read said you can give them the dummy to help them fall asleep, but then take it away once they are asleep so I guess they don't need to suck on it continually for the soothing part? Although I seem to remember that it also said some babies suck more than others.
Turtlemoose - the book (the same one I think!) also recommended taking the dummies off them at about 6 months as by then the sucking reflex or whatever it was wears off anyway and it's easier to remove the dummy from a 6 month old than from a toddler. (This might have been Your Baby Week by Week, although it's now gone back to the library, if any of you lovely ladies can confirm that if you have it at home?)

Hmm thanks savage ...so when they are dependant on it to fall asleep, how on earth do you get it off them? It's not like you can explain to them  It's so hard to know what is the right thing to do!

    Katie is he still asleep??

    Hi!!

Miss you too Sunshine :D x

Katie - Charlie has a dummy. Its a godsend I tell you!! If he wakes up, he opens his eyes, I put the dummy in and slowly the eyes close again and he drifts off. Great I tell you lol!!! x

Sunshine - take my word for it, put some cheapish clothes aside for nursery. They come home filthy haha. Food everywhere lol. Charlie wears the same 4 t-shirts every week, and i'm sticking to them!!! x

    Hey

Niall Daniel Fox was born on 11th August 2012 by emergency c-section weighing 9lbs - we are both doing fine - a slow start for Niall feeding which meant we were kept in hospital for a while but all is well now.

had to prise myself away from pregnancy thread lol

still lots to learn with a newborn, struggled a little last night with getting Niall off breastfed him about 4 times over 3 hours and then he went to sleep at 12.40am - for a good 3 and a half hours, fed him again for 20 mins then and he slept again till the morning. maybe it was just the weather, as he seems a little more grouchy than usual.

15% off at mothercare at the moment if you spend £100 - came in handy as have ordered a medela swing.

    Laura

    Congratulations!!!! :T
