Dizzi - it's good to hear from you but I'm sorry you are still going through this with the hospital. It sounds like an awful ward where they pick and choose whether to ignore or mither you depending on how they feel.
The most important thing is that Erin and yourself are well and it's good news that they are thinking of removing the tube and sending you home as that must mean Erin is thriving.
As for you, I think you are doing amazingly well. It will be hard when you are home but you will manage and your OH will be there to support you. Did you say he had paternity leave?
I can't help with regards to what you should do or how you should treat a premmie baby but I'm sure someone will be along who does. Lovecrafting is a bit of an oracle on this subject and I'm sure she would offer you advice.
In the meantime, we are all here for you and feel free to vent away.

When I was in hospital they said thought may be anaemic but never did blood test so never followed up. I had some problems when I went for 6 wk check and dr thought I was anaemic, blood test level was 10 and a month later 10.3, I did not want tabs but spatone did not get it up enough hence now on iron syrup. Will be retested in a month. Looking back there is no doubt in my mind I was very anaemic, I did take a bit of spatone after the birth but clearly should have got it sorted sooner. My first aunt flo visit was tmi very heavy so suspect my count is probably even lower than 10.3. Hope you get your level back up again as it wilL make you feel better, sympathies though with the tab side effects.0 -
Dizzi- sorry things are so hard. Agree with happys post. I really hope you are home soon back in your own bed. Hubby can help properly then and it sounds as though you are trying to minimise any potential problems with feeding bottles which is good. Tc Ro x0

Thanks Ro and Happy, just feeling a bit off today but have sat down with DH and talked through things now, so we have something of a plan of action which will help going forward. I've been trying to get his finances straight for about two years now but clearly haven't tried hard enough. He's talking about looking for another job as well which should mean more money coming in. Going to try and get organised not dwell and worry about things.
I blame a grumpy baby and my hormones, but spent most of the afternoon wanting to cry about things which I know is not helpful.
Dizzi, definitely need to send you more hugs. It sounds like you are in a ward stuck in the 1950's or something. If they are talking about releasing you both though that has to be a good thing, you'll find it easier to deal with your baby on your own terms and with help from your OH and without the stress from the rubbish staff.
LO is sitting on my lap watching me type with eyes wide. Shame I haven't got both hands free so I could show her touch typing! I used to have a boss who got freaked out when we were looking at him but still typing - cue that happening every time he came in the room:rotfl:(god, that was years ago, my first office job - I am scarily old now!):heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

I'm currently anaemic according to them (my iron level's only a little bit low) and I'm flipping well refusing their iron tablets - not only is it more unnecessary mithering - but my argument is that it'll resolve itself with diet given time since I've never had iron problems in my life - and if they actually served food with some nutritional value (or indeed molecular structure) - I wouldn't be having the problem anyway.... I feel fine in myself though.
Getting really cross with people though - MIL sitting there going "oooh she's such a good baby - she doesn't cry" and I want to scream "no she doesn't cry but it's not a good thing - she didn't cry cos she was so jaundiced and drowsy, and she doesn't cry much because she's still so small she's just developing and growing - that doesn't make her A Good Quiet Baby - it makes her ill!"Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Hi Dizzi
As the Mummy of a prem baby (27 weeks gestation) my advice is when you get discharged to try and act as if she is a 'normal' full term baby as best you can. When Poppy was discharged she weighed 4lb 3oz and the only places I really avoided were crowded places due to germs, didn't take her to the supermarket, when I went to the Doctors I asked to have a separate room to wait in so as not to expose Poppy to so many sick people. Things have been especially hard due to Poppy still requiring 24 hour oxygen, but I've tried not to let this stop me and I try and get out for a pram walk every day.
Do try and limit visitors for the first few weeks and don't let anybody in who has a cold!
Sorry your having such a rough time, I understand totally after spending 13 weeks at the hospital.
I wanted to write more, but its feeding time and I'm being screamed at.
Take care. xx:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Ro - my iron level when I went in was 11.6 and then after the delivery and surgery it was 8.1 so that's quite a significant loss I suppose.
If these tablets don't agree with me I'm going to have to go back to the doctors.

Crabapple- glad you have got a plan of action. No harm in a few tears, sometimes they are needed. Hope things work out.
Dizzi- hope things get better, glad jannine came on with advice as she is lovely and really gone through it with poppy x
Happy - hope you get your levels sorted as it will make you feel carp. I had the anaemia thing at end of pregnancy too and in labour they tested me and it had gone up to over 13 which was good for me! (From 10.4) So it's been 10 6 wks after birth then 10.3 month later prior first aunt flo but did not have surgery but had forceps etc. So like you have dropped but not borderline fusion level so it is important to get it back up again good luck with it, surgery sounds very ow so Tc0 -
I'm been wondering if my lack of energy has been iron related, but my numbers were higher than yours 13.6 before and 10.5 after. So it's probably all tooth related for me as I've had tooth ache for the last couple of weeks and part 1 of a root canal yesterday ;(
For convenience I've got an upstairs and a downstairs set of baby stuff so I don't have to make unnecessary trips, toys, changing mats, nappy essentials, clothing, muslins. DH is very good at taking his turn on the evenings and weekends which gives me a bit of time off.
We have a swing, a platmat with arch and a tummy mat, (downstairs only) which I'm using to get some odd jobs done. Seb didn't like any of these in the beginning, so I used them for only a few minutes each (stopped on crying and gave constant reassurance) now we are up to 15-20 minutes on each, we often manage all three consecutively 2-3 times a day, with naps and feeds, as I'm trying to follow EASY (Eat, Activity, Sleep, Your time) but it is a bit more like EAEASY.
Hang in there, hopefully things will get better, hugs to all that need them!:ANeeding to save all the money, lots of MSE learning still to do
