hi everyone, i am migrating over to here if thats ok, altho keeping up might be an issue since all i do at the moment is feed and change isla then run round after the other kids before the next feed is due.
for those of you not on facebook, isla is ten days old now she was 34 weeks when she was born and weighed 4lb 8 altho she is 4lb 6 now. she is feeding well, suposed to be 3 hrly feeds but is managing to go 4 hrs so i am not making her feed every three hrs since i quite like sleep and wouldnt mind getting some at some point. isla is my fourth baby (ninth pregnancy) but we have three other kids from my husbands previous marrage. i will go and read back a few pages in a bit and see whats been going on.0 -

Welcome lovecrafting, and congrats on the arrival of little Isla! Glad she's doing well even if she was early.
Also congrats to Gilly's little lad for getting so clever! Thanks for the photo of him too, he's a sweetie.
Koalamummy - I thought the role of family was to drive to you distraction! Got to bite my tongue with my mum so often even though she is lovely and hasn't been interfering with LO like I thought she might. Latest thing is the christening (both mothers been overeager for us to sort it out). Mum turned up at mine wanting to come up with a list of people to have there, even after I said I didn't want to do specifics now as we've got time. She said it wasn't specifics - yet wanted a list of names of who was going to be invited!
I've had a nice weekend and been given loads of chocolate. Will be a good mummy and convert some into chocolate milk for LO! I have been telling her that next year she can have eggs herself, but I'll probably still have to help her eat them as she will be very little. No-one has bought her an egg although she got a book of nursery rhymes and a couple of toys. So glad no-one thought that she would need her own chocolate! And even more rubbish koalamummy if people who should know about your kids give you dairy filled treats for them!

Evening Ladies,
Time I joined you on here, Caitlin was born 16th March and after being in the hospital for a week we have now been home for 2 weeks. This is the first oppotunity I have had to update the girls on the pregnancy thread and read back a few pages on here.
Can I ask some daft questions?- Do you wake your babies to feed them or do you let them sleep as long or short as they want then feed when they wake?
- When in the day do you bath your baby? Do you bath them when they are grizzly or only when calm?
- Have you bathed them with you? If so, do you just deal with the cooler water that is needed to suit them?

Not daft questions Icey! Nice to see you, and congrats on little Caitlin!
Speaking from (scary) experience, when they are that age, i wouldnt let them sleep on, as they are not able to regulate blood suger/hunger themselves and if they sleep too long, they can get to weak to wake themselves up and feed (we ended up by ambulance to hospital!). During the day, at NB age, i wouldnt let them go more than 2-3 hours, 3-4 by night max. If they want to feed every half an hour, or hour, then thats fine too- the more often they feed, the more it stimulates your milk to come in properly if you are trying to BF. Generally, if LO cried, we checked bum, and offered food, and repeat, even if you think it cant possibly be either again!
Keep an eye on how many wet nappies there are, write it down or use a phone app, as that is the best way to be sure they are getting enough fluid. Also check that the inside of their lips are nice and shiny- if they look dull and opaque, they may be dehydrated. Little ones neck also got a bit thin and scrawny looking when she got a bit dehydrated.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Baths- I think nearly every baby cries when bathed to start with, mine still does at 12 weeks! You can try and do it when they are calm, but its likely to rile them anyway, so.....
I dont do it at bedtime usually, cos it winds my LO up. Other people have it as part of the bed time routine. It all depends on what suits you and how LO takes it. Key is, once you start, dont stop and fuss over them if they cry, and try and carry on after , just finish what you are doing quickly, and hoik 'em out! And there is no need to bath them that often as LO's, they really dont get dirty! My HV said once or twice a week, with top and tail the other days is more than enough otherwie their skin can get too dry.
We havent bathed LO with us yet, as she still hates the bath, and using the big bath would probably terrify her even more! But, yes, you kind a need to deal with the cold water. If its you in with her, then get daddy to take her, and get her dressed, and you top up with hotter water and have a chill out!
Hope that helps.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Congratulations Icey!
re your questions:-
We never had to wake LO after her first couple of days, but were advised not to let her go for long, and about 4 hours max was the advice (although the period did vary depending on the midwife we spoke to!).
If LO is anything like a lot of babes then she won't want her clothes off and that will get her agitated to start with. Like Kira says, they don't need too many baths anyway. We've always done them at night before bed. Feed before, strip and into the bath, do it as quick as possible but don't lift out too fast if she doesn't like it and they do get used to the idea.
We did initially bath her on me, but found that as I was bf she would get upset hunting for boob, then either cry because she couldn't have it, or latch on and feed and get upset when we wanted then to get her out because she had been in the bath too long. It has proved easier to bath her on her own, but in the early days it was less scary having her on me.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Oh, and I forgot to say I usually do a skin-to-skin feed with her after bath to help make sure she's warm enough and as it's a good time for bonding and helping her wind back down before bed if she has got a bit upset.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Mine never used to sleep long enough to worry about waking to feed! What I tend to do now is get him out of his bed and offer food when i'm about to go to sleep, to give me as long as possible before he wakes again. And a couple of times over the weekend I woke in the night feeling quite full, so I picked him up then and fed him instead of waiting. Luckily, he will take a sleep feed most times I offer.
As Kira said, it isn't recommended that you bath too often, as baby skin is delicate. I don't do it at a set time, just whenever is convenient for me. He doesn't mind too much washing in a bowl or the sink, and seems to like being in the big bath being held. When I do that, I run a shallowish bath at baby temperature, and if I'm on my own step in very carefully with him. If I have the other half around, he can take him while I add some lovely hot water and lounge, but if he's not, I just have to get out and sort baby out shivering in my towel.0 -
Hi all, hope everyone is well
Just wanting some advice, i posted a while ago asking how much bottle fed babies were taking, Ava (4.5 weeks) is just feeding all the time. We've asked the HV previously and been told NOT to change her formula and NOT to give her hungry baby but i'm beginning to wonder about both.
She's currently on SMA 1st feed and seems to get terrible pains in her stomach and terrible wind from the bottom end. It's a constant every day and sometimes she's screaming. She has one poo a day so isn't constipated but seems in a lot of pain, it's quite upsetting to watch. I know a lot of people have had problems with SMA as apparently it's harder for baby to digest. Just wondering if anyone had a similar problem and changed formula with positive results?
As said above she's also constantly hungry, today she fed at 2am, 4am, 6am (not sure of amounts as DH did night feeds)9:30 5oz, 12 5oz, 4:30 5oz (slept a lot as we were in the car) 5:30 3oz and 7:30 4oz this just seems like a lot to me. According to HV her weight is going up fine and she's following the 75 percentile line on the graph but i'm not sure if eating a lot is adding to her painful tummy.
Any advice, experience would be greatly appreciated. We're going to get her weighed tomorrow so can speak to the HV again, no doubt they will label me a neurotic motherMight sound like a wimp but as DH is at work my mum is coming with me as i sometimes feel like i'm being fobbed off.
