A brilliant book and app is The Wonder Weeks Marta. It details all the development leaps and exactly what to expect. Xx

And yes normal, unless she is appearing lethargic and/or unresponsive while awake I wouldn't worry.

HV/ said her latch is fine tho there are times when this monkey wont fully open her mouth but still feeds fine.
there is no milk spitting around her mouth. HV said aswell she seemed to have only a bit of tongue tie but that wouldnt affect her latch. MW said for what she could see, she feeds fine.
Some people and i notice too that the whites of her eyes are not white, they are yellow.

  • Hi Morocha, my baby had a tongue tie and we were initially told we didn't need to do anything about it. But when I mentioned it again to the midwife she made an appointment for it to be cut and he has been more settled and fed better since the very first feed after having it done. So it may be worth exploring if it should be done. It was a simple procedure which took seconds and he fed straight afterwards. His tongue tie was quite thick though but it may be worth you asking for some more advice on it.

Can I ask what peoples experiences of using a dummy is? I have just started using one with our little man who is now 4 weeks. Basically I didn't want to use one but he was using me as a dummy and it does help to settle him. I only use it when I know he isn't hungry. And just to help settle him and then take it out just before he falls asleep. But I can't stop feeling guilty about giving him a dummy. I know it may sound silly but feel like a bad mum!

CW, i will enquire about it next time i see the hv. thank you
re dummies, i am trying to get J to use one, she uses me as a dummy too. i do not think you are a bad mum for using one, some babies love sucking all the time, J does but so far she is not to keenn in using a dummy. Aso nowdays the are tested and created with experts.

I use a dummy - it wasn't the first and it wasn't the last "bad" mummy thing I've done (there's an argument for them in connection with SIDS risk and helping develop suck mechanisms as well)... although my main issue with them is they're just ugly looking things really (so I bought see-through clear ones).

At least it gives the holy and indignant something to get het up about and keeps 'em outta mischief a bit.

Love our dummy here. Hardly a bad mum for using one, if it comforts your baby. :)

I mean to say I don't PERSONALLY use a dummy (although I'd quite like to insert one in hubby's gob from time to time).

Having a pretty crap time here (more on the pregnancy thread) - struggling to deal with the fact it's pregnancy week 32 next week and what that might entail coming up far far too soon. Poor Erin's seen far too much of her mummy crying the last couple of weeks.

I use a dummy. "Baby week by week" almost recommends it, and say to reduce its use by at 11th week and try to stop using it during the day by 6months, if I remember ok. It says it's good to settle baby to sleep and then remove it. It says to try not to use it after one year, not because there's anything wrong with it, but because it would be very difficult to remove it later on. You are not a bad mum, I don't feel bad at all! My mw and hv recommended it, so I'm happy. They are now shaped thinking of teeth and mouth development. Your baby will probably chew on something anyway, it's easier to wean them off a dummy than of a thumb, that's what the mw said to me.

  • Thanks for all of your replies. The mw said to me it is better to give him a dummy than have him suck his fingers which is what he was doing. It is pretty cute though seeing a 4 week old suck his two middle fingers.

On a side note, I am increasingly amazed at how loud such a little person can trump! He has been restless tonight and now I know why, two very loud bottom burps and counting!!

Hello all - thought i'd finally stop lurking and post (long time lurker on the pregnancy thread, been on here a few times). I'm a first time mum with a 4 week old little boy - so still very much adjusting to parenthood!

Was wondering when breastfeeding started to settle down for everyone else? We're still really struggling - my LO seems to feed much better from one side and feeding from the unfavoured side is quite painful. LO is gaining weight and my local feeding specialist says that he's latching well and feeding well. But it's just still so painful for me - my poor nipple is really suffering :(. I'd have thought the latch is still not great, but i'm not sure what else I can do....
