Thank you :) She's obviously very excited about it - she's been lying down and sitting up and lying down and sitting up all day - all with a huge grin on her face and lots of dadadadada and mamamamama :D

Glad you had a good night - fingers crossed you'll have an even better one tonight.

Question for those doing weaning the traditional puree-based way: when did you stop spoon-feeding your LO and let them loose with the spoon themselves? She'll be 9 months in a week's time - is it time to start practising self-feeding? She's pretty good with things like toast, rice cakes and fruit, and she loves putting things in her mouth, so I'm sure she'd enjoy having a go with a spoon, but I'm not sure I would enjoy it quite as much! :o

Hi, new mummy alert! Our little boy was born nearly 2 weeks ago. This is the first time I have had chance to get on the laptop. It certainly is a busy time!

I was just hoping for some advice regarding travel systems. We have one but have just realised that the advice is baby should not spend more than an hour in the car seat as he should lay flat for most of the time.

What age does this apply to? Just the first few months or beyond? Should I consider buying a pram which will enable him to lie flat for when we plan to be out longer than an hour? I am concerned about day trips for example where he may be in the car seat travelling for an hour and then stay in the car seat while we walk around pushing the travel system for a further hour or two. Then return journey back. Is it ok for him to be in the travel system/car seat for this long?

    Thanks x

Congratulations and welcome! :j Hope you're enjoying motherhood. The advice about lying flat applies to the first six months. Like you, we have a travel system and our LO stayed in the car seat until she was 4-5 months old - she's a big baby and was starting to look a bit squashed. We had days when she spent more than an hour in the car seat and if it's only an occasional thing then I wouldn't worry. I just wouldn't do it every day. What we used to do was take her out of the car seat for a bit if she'd been in there for a while - carrying her around for a bit or lying her down flat somewhere (lap, your own car seat, any other safe and comfy space), plus things like feeding and nappy change (both of which you'll be doing very regularly in the beginning!) obviously also get them out of the seat for a while.

A lot of travel systems, with the pushchair that's attached are suitable from birth (but do check with your manufacturer) if that's the case and the pram fits into you car, could you put baby into the pushchair and just leave the car seat in the car? :o If you're planning on being out for a while. My pushchair lays flat and I think a lot of them do too x

The reason we didn't do this was that although the main bit of our pram is suitable from birth, it isn't parent-facing, which isn't great when your baby is tiny. But for those braver than me (or with a travel system that's a bit more parent-friendly than mine!), that'd definitely be a good idea :o

Oh yeah sorry :o we're parent facing here, still are, he gets to look at my ugly mug all the time :D he doesn't like facing out though so its good in a way :o Before he was old enough I used the carry cot of the pram, massive thing to store though :o

Yes all good, although I spilled the little bottle of C&G for tonight and I'd only bought 2, oops. So couldn't do it today.

Morning :D. Guess which mummy didn't have to get up in the night?!?!?! He moaned for a minute at 5 but settled himself before I went through, then woke up at 6.45 :D:T:D:T

Congratulations candlewax! Like Nutella said, I think if its a one off you'll be ok. When LO was 8 weeks we had a night away in Brighton which meant he was in his car seat for 1.5 hours getting there then pretty much all day around town, then another 30mins in the car to the hotel. He was fine, as soon as we laid him on the double bed in the hotel room he did the BIGGEST stretch I've ever seen and just starfished there for the while evening :o. You could see about getting a sling maybe, to change it up every so often? There are some pics the other ladies posted a few pages back I think.

Nutella re cutlery - although we're mainly blw now he still has a bit of a jar occasionally if he's really not going for the other stuff I give him, and he has yoghurts too. I've just started giving him the spoon loaded with yoghurt, let him take it when its pretty close to the target and its not too messy. Tend to feed him the jarred stuff myself as that stuff stains if it gets on fabrics.
