Anybody on here use a childminder instead of nursery? Can you tell me why/pros/cons? Anybody absolutely wouldn't use a childminder?

I've only got 4.5 months left (eep!) and looking at childcare 8-6 mon-fri. OH wants a nursery, but I want to look at nurseries AND childminders.

I have known many people over the years who are CM's.. the main reasons most parents seem to give is their child is in a much smaller group of children so more attention. They are in a home environment rather than a 'clinical' nursery and they tend to be taken to play groups etc which means they get a better socialisation too. However, the CM may smoke or have pets which could affect your childs health. The nursery routine might get a bit dull 5 days a week doing the same thing day in day out.. it just always seemed more interesting to be with a CM .. though as a parent I would get palpitations not knowing 100% where my child was when not with me.

Looking at the children, minded ones seem to do much better socially whereas nursery ones cope better with school..

Mine have only ever spent a couple of hours a week in nursery though so it had no real bearing on them.

  • Hello all

Thanks for all your concern and lovely messages :) Aiden is improving little by little every day. They still think it may be another 5days in as he is only having the oxygen tweaked down a tiny bit every day but he is managing. He is getting more frustrated that he cannot move as we are stuck to the oxygen and sats machine.

Only thing is he wont eat still but he is having milk still so not too worried

Woo... come on Aiden! Great news about the oxygen... even if it's only a little bit, he's going the right way.

Remember what I said about taking each day as it comes. Nothing worse than them changing their mind. Don't believe them until you see the discharge papers! Lol.

Big loves and hope you and OH are ok too xxx

Hi sunshine, fab news that he's improving! Boo to another 5 days, but better that than they send home too soon. Glad you're feeling a bit better now too, I can't imagine what you and OH must be going through xxx

As for us - George's run of bad luck continues; today he was playing with a cardboard box when out of nowhere he started screeching - blood all over it and a paper cut right across his thumb. Fingers crossed tomorrow he can stay out of trouble!

Turtle and Fluff, love the photos :) But - Turtle, do you always coordinate his seat cover with the food he's eating?!... :rotfl:
