turtlemoose wrote: »Jt100 I completely agree with you, but OH, at th mo, will not budge. He won't even discuss it. I went to a childminder as a child, and it was a positive experience. I have friends who sent their children to nursery and that has been a positive experience too. I think I will go and view several nurseries and also childminders too, make my own short list and then book with OH to view my top 2 nurseries and top 2 CMs.
I think that sounds like a great idea!0 -
Thanks turtle I'll take a lookat those links. Thing is her mouth used to go nice & wide which is why uk confused now about why she doesn't. I always think she's over eager to feed and loves getting any bit of the nipple in ASAP.
She gas our loads of weight on up to now but definitely going to read the links and get a home visit from a support worker - thanks again0 -
Another quick Q - the lactation consultants some of you have spoken of, where do you find them? Is it through a GP referral?0

Glad she enjoyed nursery Nutella, hope today goes well too. Are you going to treat yourself when you leave her there? I'm thinking tea and cake at the least, possibly a manicure/dash round the shops?;):D
!!!! night for us again - started ok, didnt wake til almost 2am so fed him and he went off again, then he was up at 4 and nothing I did would settle him properly so ended up feeding him at 5.30am. Wishing now I'd just calpoled him as I know he has a tooth coming, but he seemed more moany than properly distressed. He's still asleep so I'm having a cuppa in peace. Look like death and feel like I'm moving through tarand just my luck that today I've work to get done for a deadline tomorrow morning so no chance of a nap. *sulks*
Moneypenny I've no experience of lactation consultants but had a quick google and found this, might be worth a try? http://www.lcgb.org/. Or maybe speak to your hv?Newborn thread member

Not typically. You can find one and refer yourself. The lactation consultant that sorted out Freddie's tongue tie was a midwife that I'd done some antenatal classes with. She'd stopped working for the NHS a year or so before and set up her own business doing active birth workshops, pilates, baby massage etc. She was also working as a private lactation consultant. You have to pay for her services but she'd come and spend time with you in your own home and help you with any feeding issues you might have. She came to my house and snipped Freddie's tongue tie when he was five days old (the best £80 I've ever spent).
Alternatively your health visitor team might have a nursery nurse as part of the team and you can ask for them to visit. I know that there were two support workers who were both breastfeeding experts who I could have called on to help when Freddie was small. With us, I'd already had his tongue tie diagnosed (after being suspicious myself) so it wasn't so much a case of getting help with breastfeeding generally; I wanted someone to snip his tongue tie. This is no longer done in my PCT and I'd have had to join a lengthy queue at Southampton which is why I went private. Luckily I already knew Julie and knew that tongue tie snipping was something she's trained to do.

Money penny you can also call the NCT breastfeeding line and they will give you the number of a local counsellor. I had exactly the same as you, in relation to shape and I didn't realise it was an issue until I got an open wound on each side caused by the point rubbing on LO hard palette. I found that when I did get advice, the difference was immense, I was holding baby toO square on to the nipple if that makes sense and when I held her lower, although it seemed unnatural at first, she opened her mouth wider and tilted her head back slightly meaning a deeper and more effective latch and no cone shaped nipples.
The number for NCT feeding line should be in your red book.
Hope you get sorted0 -
It's worth remembering that whilst a lipstick-shaped nipple can be a sign of tongue-tie, it doesn't have to be. It's a sign of a poor latch for sure, but, as jonno7 says, this might be to do with position or a number of other reasons, and not necessarily because the baby can't move his or her tongue properly.
Best to get everything checked; the tongue, the latch, the position etc. Get someone round who's a real expert and let them watch you feed, on both sides preferably."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Thanks for all your nursery-related well wishes
Day 2 - I stayed with her for a little while, then went outside the room and peeked through the window for half an hour. She was happily playing, so I went into the room to get my bag and coat - she didn't even notice me! Now having coffee and cake in a lovely little cafe round the corner - hadn't been to a cafe by myself since she was born! A bit weird but nice
Oh, and Katie - I'll be going clothes shopping tomorrow, but now I want a manicure too!
