Morning all
Sunshine, yay for standing! Glad he loves nursery now. How is he doing this morning?
Katie, glad your night was OK in the end. We had another unsettled one - ended up putting her in bed with me at 2am-ish, I know I shouldn't but I was knackered... Up for the day at 6am - regardless of how bad the night has been and what time she went to bed she's always wide awake by 6
She's full energy and rummaging about on the floor - I'm sat here yawning!0 -

Something I've been thinking about... I think some of us, myself included, could get better at 'thanking' posts on this thread. I know some people are very good at that, but I know I sometimes simply forget, and I'm sure others do too
So I wanted to encourage us to 'thank' a post if we find it useful, interesting, supportive or funny - or for any other reason that warrants a thank you! There's so much helpful stuff and good advice on this thread, but our stats don't always show that. Not that I'm suggesting that anyone posts advice and support just to get thanked, but you know what I mean?!....

He was just staring at me... no interest in anything other than staring! So I started talking and he looked sort of engaged? Twiddled his hands and sang row row row your boat. He was definitely paying attention XD
His eyes and head follow my phone when it's lit up too.
He doesn't make noises other than guzzling boob or sort of "yummy" noises before he falls asleep. They sound like a big manly "Ahhh" as if he's downed a cold pint XD
It came as a bit of a surprise to me just how pointless newborns are. I think our perception of babies tends to be older ones who smile and gurgle and make 'dadadadagagagaga' noises and chuckle. Babies don't do this for months! For the first few weeks they just lie there flailing about occasionally. I don't think Freddie made eye contact with me for months - he'd just stare at my hair like an autistic person. When they're not feeding, they're sleeping. Even if they're not sleeping they're not doing anything interesting. Pointless!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Is it wrong to calpol your child in the middle of the night in the hope it's mildly sedating?
I remember my brother desperately hunting the house for sedating antihistamines once to give to his one year old. It was stupid o'clock and the baby had been crying for hours. But then he's a paediatrician so I guess he knows what's safe or not. I'd be convinced I'd kill Freddie if I did anything so maverick with medicines!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Haha fluff, I totally agree. Newborns are cute but they're not much fun compared to when they get a bit bigger.
Nutella you're right about the thanking, I'm terrible for it so will make more of an effort from now on
Happy birthday Scott! Hope you don't get too much snow Ro, its forecast all day tomorrow for us now. Not really bothered about it this year as I think George would just get miserable and cold. Next year will be more fun when he can appreciate it a bit more
I might be meeting a mum off netmums for a coffee today for the first time, within walking distance which will be nice, the other mums I know are all a drive away (not far but still more hassle than just chucking him in the pram).Newborn thread member

{I'll apologise now for being poor at thanking posts, I nearly always post from my phone and I can't even type a message in the reply box, I have to type it as a text message and copy and paste it over here, my phone hates MSE forums it seems and regularly crashes when I type a message. However, I'm always eternally grateful for your help on here even if my phone isn't

Happy Birthday to your little one Ro. I get wistful every Wednesday about being in labour X amount of weeks ago, I'll be rubbish when it gets to a year!
Gosh, we have had 2 nights where we've had a total of 6 hours sleep between the hours of 11pm and 8am. It honestly feels like a miracle, its amazing how a tiny bit of sleep can make you feel so much better. I can cope with getting up for night feeds and putting her back down within the hour, it was the feeding for 15 minutes then her playing for three hours then being ready to feed again then playing for 2 hours I can't cope with! I won't speak too soon but I'm hoping for a third good night! (ha!)
Meeting up with the ladies from our antenatal class today, didn't get to know them really really well at the class but thought it would be nice to go and say hi for an hour and see their cute babies and talk about cute babies which is all I seem to want to do!
For all the BF mummies, did you ever go through a phase of a sore nipple on one side? One of mine is really sore, I kind of dread feeding from it but keep going through the pain so I don't muck up my supply. I'm religious with the Lansinoh, they don't seem cracked or sore or red or anything, just sore when little miss is sucking. I have noticed though I can't get her to open her mouth to that big yawn before she latches on - is this a lazy latch? Even if she cries and I try to get it in quickly while her mouth is open she seems to sense it is coming and closes her mouth to a normal openess and is so impatient to feed she just takes what she can - it always looks like she has got the position right but the one side is so sore I can't think what else it might be.
Hope everyone has a nice day!0
