Hi Ro, I've edited the list above to add you and Scott on :D

Your MIL sounds like mine, in the knitting stakes anyway... Luckily we haven't had the 'you should be doing this or that' comments yet, but I'm half expecting them at some point. But every time we went round while I was pregnant, and when we went round the first time with Amelia, there's always been something new that's been knitted... Some things are cute and we will use them but some of the bonnets and stuff are a bit odd! Plus they're all huge!

Bluebell - sounds like our weeks have been quite similar... Amelia has a touch of jaundice too but I think it's fading. We've got a postnatal appointment on Monday so will see what they say. I've been trying to lie her in indirect sunshine for a bit every day, well, what sunshine there has been to speak off, plus feeding as much as possible to help flush it out. Glad to hear your OH is being so helpful, mine is too, it's making such a difference.

Yay my baby has a belly button :D Just did a nappy change and the cord has come off. Am guessing we still need to keep an eye on the belly button to make sure that bit heals properly but at least it's getting there :D

I am trying to remember what day Scott's cord came off but it's all a blur but it was weird opening his sleep suit and thinking there is a button! Amelia and Scott are so close together it's quite good as can warn you about the crappy stuff but I get to make the mistakes first though

Re the knitting mil is 78 so knitting patterns vary from 60's ones to positively Victorian !

Scott had very mild jaundice too but disappeared quickly think around day 5, one of my bf's daughter is called Amelia :)

Wondering how Gilly is doing let me know if you get any advance news !!
EDIT THERE IS NEWS ON PREG THREAD!!!

Thanks, yes please to joining the facebook group :)

Elliot is being really very good, he's looking quite yellow at the moment but feeding well and alert so they've decided he doesn't need the lamp treatment for jaundice at the moment. He's letting us get a bit of sleep, as long as we start trying to sleep at about 8pm we probably manage to get 8 hours in total by the time it gets to 8am!

I have to say doughnut shaped cushions are good.... I'm still feeling quite wobbly but the iron tablets are definitely helping. DH is great, has been doing all the cooking, cleaning and nappy changes.

I had no idea babies poo could look like lentils, quite amazing. We've also had our first projectile poo session, which luckily came off the carpet remarkably well.

Hi bluebell I cannot be separated from my valley cushion yet! Hope the iron tabs continue to do the business. I have conrinued iron and folic acid for now as know I am low but we will get there! My hubby's been really good too it's fab to see them make a real effort. Hubby seems to really like bottle feeding except last night Scott puked for the first time whilst feeding so he's feeling guilty bless him but have said babies can be sick from time to time and he is fine. He keeps consulting his blokes guide to babies book :D

Q- hubby due back to work Thursday
And it's coming round fast. I cooked for first time yesterday and feel have more energy. Any tips on preparing to be alone ? I know need to decrease reliance over next few days. Just hoping we can get signed off to hv Tuesday so need to keep on with combination feeding.
Anyone have experience of first days being left holding the baby?

Hope you dont mind me popping in? Im a retired midwife (ill health) and also a mum of 4 (nearly grown) adults, but can remember those first days alone with baby (and then baby plus toddlers).

Most important is to feed yourself and have lots to drink because only then can you feed and nurture your baby. New mums always forget to eat. So get someone to make you a healthy packed lunch or have easily prepared food in the fridge and a thermos so you have a hot drink.

Sleep when your baby sleeps. Have a note for the door and turn your phones off.

Avoid too many visitors, unless they are of the helpful kind, and will go into the kitchen and put the washing on, wash up, tidy round and leave you to cuddle your baby.

Dont worry about housework too much. Just make sure the kitchen is hygienic and rubbish in bin.

Dont worry about routines - they will come in time.

If you are struggling with your baby ask for help. Particularly if you are feeling low in mood as this can lead onto PND. Post Natal Depression is a horrid thing to have (I had it 4 times) and can be greatly helped by support - informal (friends, family, post natal groups) and formal (GP/ HV and maybe anti depressants).

Really wish I had listened to my own advice when I was a young mum but there again hindsight is a wonderful thing. You need time to recover and to bond with baby. Many cultures dont let new mums do anything for many weeks except feed their babies. Our culture has so many expectations and they are not important and in fact are irrelevant.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

as alrady said ro just take it easy, and dont stress about other things, sleep when baby sleeps and enjoy this time as it goes so quick.

hey it was great although Ellie was not 100%. Ellie was only 4 weeks so not much she could "do" however there was some things. they have a pottery studio that you can do hand foot prints etc on tiles plates etc. We didn't do it as it was overpriced. she could have gone swimming but had a cough so i didn't take her. they had a crèche but we didnt use it as we were a party of 14 so there were plenty of people to have her. my mum had her while i went swimming with DD1.

we had an amazing time at the longleat one. Getting around the park was really easy as they have ramps and slopes everywhere for the bike users. I wanted to take Ellie on the land train but we ran out of time!

I would go again but then i have DD1 who is 10 so i do stuff with her

Hiya ryan is now 8 weeks old today and we have received notification about when he will get his 6 week check and his first jags on the same day in a few weeks.

He likes to be swaddled but he is wriggling about and getting his arms out, so may need to put him in a sleeping bag soon. We have several but they are age 6-12mths and we have a shorter one which I had for my daughter previously and it seems ok. Is it ok to use this do you think in a few weeks time.

Better go as ryan is fighting sleep.
