Hi ladies, welcome to the new faces!

Marta I'd say nip to the docs for a check up if discharge is foul smelling, just to be sure.

We're at the mil's still, still going ok, just one small incident when I kind of ranted a little bit about how much I prefer blw to spoon feeding after she told me numerous times to mash up his spud and feed it to him. Other than that we're doing ok.

Went to the kiddicare store yesterday - I was ridiculously over excited! I'm a sucker for a well designed shop anyway, never mind when its packed to the ceiling with push chairs and toys! We got this http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_83+5001_10751_-1_14563_126385_10001_14563, unfortunately its awful weather today though so don't think we'll be able to try it out.

  • I forgot to get clothes out for the baby this morning... come downstairs to find daddy's dressed her in tights and a T-shirt... and sees nothing wrong in the lack of pants!

Thanks for the welcome ladies. Here's a little info from me:

    Baby arrived: 13/12/12, 7.37am
    Name: Joel (7lb 14oz)
    First baby

He's currently wide awake, despite feeding for a good hour since 2.30. Going to try him on the other side to see if it knocks him out for a few hours.

congratulations hun :) Joel is a lovely name. :T How did it all go? how are you feeling?

    Hi Marta

Not doing too badly. Think I'm still suffering the baby blues as quite tearful at the moment. Really need to sleep/nap more often. Hubby had 3 days at work last week and it wasn't too bad, but then, our dog was still in kennels so I didn't need to think of his needs. Think we need to get some advice from Dogs' Trust (where he came from) as he's quite possessive and we don't want him to hurt Baby J but then him feel rejected. Other people cope with dogs and babies, just hope we can too.
We've also had so many visitors that I feel a need just to hide for a few days or go to my parents (they don't live close like the in-laws).

Well, I've been feeding for the last hour yet Baby J still looks wide awake. Booo, need to see the back of my eyelids for a bit longer.

    mlb

crying is completely normal hun. i cried loads for no reason that i could think of just emotions. Hope the dogs trust are able to help and advice about the dog i havea springer and Ellie wont leave him alone so i have a room divider so i know they are both safe

Hi there ladies and gents, not a mum myself but looking for some advice from you all if possible. My close friend is expecting a baby in May, she's the first of our 'group' to have a baby so really want to show our support for her but don't really have the knowledge to do so atm!!

Want to put together a sort of 'go-to' kit of things that other mums have found helpful when baby is up all night, got a sore bum etc. I know that every babys is different but thinking there must be some tips and tricks I can pass onto her? Want to make up a little box and put everything in there for her!

    So far have been advised:
    Dentinox or infacol
Ashton & Parsons powder for teething
    Gaviscon for reflux
Big pack of maternity pads for first few days after birth

Will have a read through as much of this thread as poss to get other ideas, but just wondering what you mums and dads have found invaluable or you wish you would have had at 3am at some point? Would be so so grateful for your help, really want to help her out.

I wouldn't be giving gaviscon without medical supervision. It can constipate and isn't the best of medication. Reflux can be subjective and it's not always the best medicine for the job. Ranitidine is far superior. But I'd be surprised if a pharmacist would sell any of those for a baby without a prescription which you won't get without a proper diagnosis. I'll keep my fingers crossed your friend doesn't need anything like that as reflux is horrible.

I'd say chocolate, lots of choc for the night feeds, breast pads, maybe a pack of dummies (I always swore I'd never use them ;) Youl try anything at 4am) The best thing is to be there for her, go around iron a few bits, shove a washing in, make her a sandwich, etc.

I love our breadmaker - it's a Morphy Richards - we've had it over 5 years now and use it almost every day. Pizzas from it are great. I'd recommend getting this book to go with it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0716021544/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
