CASINOSHi Guys and Gals
Am off to Vegas in June and we are flying into Los Angeles and then having a road trip to Vegas.
My question is whether you think I need to spend the extra to get a GPS sat nav package on the car hire.
I know it is pretty much a single road to Vegas, but how easy is it to get from LAX to the I15?
Pretty competent map readers in the car so is the GPS worth the extra dough?
Cheers

This was posted on-line last week. The Splash Canyon website was also taken off-line, though is now back up and running.
Don't drive out to that side of town much but if I get the chance to I will go over and have a look. From the picture posted on-line no construction has even begun yet. They have apparently begun grading and trenching for pipes but no structures as yet.
They do say that if they don't open they will refund you $1 for each day delay, so you would in reality get a full refund. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

Not for a trip soley from LAX to Las.
Look at Google maps for a route
I-105 E
I-605 N
I-10 E
I-15N
Print out the directions and you're sorted.
I'm doing the same end of May\June but I've bought a GPS from Ebay-with USA maps £50- which I may use as I'm driving around LA then to Las Vegas then Kanab, Moab (canyon land), MV, and then SFO.
Once back I'll probably sell it one Ebay again.

A lot cheaper than hiring the GPS package in the hire car.0 -

I have driven all over California, Nevada and Arizona without a sat nav. I relied on an old fashioned paper map it works fine:D especially as most roads are straight .
The hardest place to navigate though is LA but even then if you stick to the freeways it is managebale0 -

First day back in work after my Vegas trip, I haven't got much time but thought I would just jot a few thoughts down.
I have tried to search the thread but can't find mention of it, we ate at Oscar's at the Plaza Hotel downtown one night and it was fantastic! The restaurant overlooks the end of Freemont Street and there were a fair few 'movers and shakers' (politicians etc) there on the Tuesday night that we visited. Definitely worth the visit IMHO.
This was my 6th trip to Vegas (but 1st trip for 3 1/2 years) and I hadn't made it to Circus Circus before now...and wish I hadn't bothered to be honest...it makes meand a bit  that this is the hotel that most travel agents in this country tout on their Vegas deals. I honestly think that if my first trip had been to CC then I probably wouldn't have returned.
I was surprised at how little I liked the casino/bars/general feel of the Cosmo, especially as this appears to be the MSE Vegas Thread's hotel of choice these days...but then looking at the balconies I can see some appeal. Generally I didn't like that whole new side of the strip much (although I was told on here that City Center wasn't great before we went!).
.
Oscars is new as it only opened with the refurb of the Plaza, I went to the old restaurant that was there, it was good but best bit is the view down fremont street and they used to pipe the music in to the restaurant
Not sure Cosmo is the hotel of choice..the rooms are great especially with a balcony but like you I dont like the casino and wouldnt stay there again.
I also think city center is a monstrosity
AS for CC it was my first hotel back in 1998,, the rooms there are some of the best value on the strip (according to Vegaschatter) and they have just been remodelled, but the casino does leave a bit to be desired0 -

If you already have a tom tom or any other sat nav wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a USA map for it?
You can also use an android or i phone with a US map installed for a few quid0 -
Plans have changed, looks like we are staying in Las Vegas for 14 nights.
I was looking at going to San Francisco for a couple of nights, internal flights etc... but dont really want to take luggage for a 2 week trip for a stay in San Francisco for a couple of nights.
So what are my options?
Store luggage in Las Vegas?
Take luggage with us and store in San Francisco? (want to take an early flight out to San Francisco but a late one back, so I don't want to be lugging luggage around).
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks

There is no problem with storing luggage in Vegas. Just drop it at the bell desk of the hotel you will be going back to and give them a couple of dollars when you drop it off. You could check that it's OK to leave it for a couple of day, but I can't see it being a problem.0

Thanks guys for your comments. I actually have a Tom Tom and a USA map is only £26, so I'll probably go for that, just to be safe.
It should allow me to go exploring whilst in Vegas.
