Page one of this thread is the best tip you will get
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

we spent some time yesterday finally working out how many times we have been to Vegas...I found a stash of old bank statements I thought I had shredded so that gave us confirmation of the early trips which is what we were missing official confirmation for...I'm quite excited that the trip next month is 19 and we haven't unknowingly already had our 20th trip as it would be nice to do something a little special for it.

Hubby has also spent some time compiling all the scoresheets from our slot golf tournaments over the years (had not realised we started that in 2004)...though finding out that of the 14 tourneys, I have won only 4 was a bit disappointing..I knew he was ahead of me, but not THAT ahead of me. :( But he now has all kinds of data analysis on which casinos have been the best to us in our slot golf holes, etc.

I think maybe we are a little bit sad having spent time on this stuff...but getting sooo excited about the upcoming trip. :j

speaking of things to do in Vegas.

It also used to be the case that at least Wynn and Bellagio, at a particular time each day you could join a tour (usually starting at the concierge desk) of the really, really fancy rooms- like the ones most of us would have to take a second mortgage to afford (assuming they were not occupied, of course)...not sure if they still do that...another thing that was on the list years ago and sort of got forgotten about.

Really, really like the sound of a room tour, please let us know if you find out any more about this??

this is what I was remembering, though a few years out of date, maybe worth emailing the hotels to see if they still do them?

The Wynn tour includes !!!!!! and Salon Suites on the Tower side, and the regular room on the Resort side. It takes about 30 minutes. I left after seeing the Suites as I've stayed in Resort Rooms before, so I don't know if they covered anything else.

Bellagio also has a tour, which leaves from thier concierge desk also at 2pm. They show you a deluxe lakeview room and available suites. The day I took it the only suite they could show was the Bellagio Suite. This took around 20 minutes.

  • Hi guys,

First day back in work after my Vegas trip, I haven't got much time but thought I would just jot a few thoughts down.

Flew Man-Las on Sunday with Virgin, checked in the night before and flew through baggage drop off and security with no queues at all. Because we had booked a Virgin holiday we got complimentary passes to the V-room (I think you have to pay sometimes). Even after a little shopping we were sat down to a full-english breakfast within 30 mins of my BIL dropping us at departures :T We have used lots of lounges before all over the world but this was one of my favourites, they charge for alcohol but on a morning flight I wouldn't generally have a drink anyway. The breakfast was served to you by a chef and was very good - lounges usually only do continental breakfast and snacks so this was a welcome change. Lots of free papers and magazines and a nice place to relax before the flight.

Flight was pretty quiet, 150 passengers on a jumbo, we had reserved some of the seats in 2's at the back so we were happy enough where we were but could have nabbed a 4-seat for a lay down if we had wanted (there was one free right next to us). Can't fault the food or the level/number of snacks, which is usually a big bug-bear for me, I always end up starving at the other end.

We stayed at Planet Hollywood, I have to say it was my least favourite Vegas hotel to yet and would go back to the Monte Carlo before staying there again. The room was fine, I just think I am a little old for the casino there (at 35!!!).

I have tried to search the thread but can't find mention of it, we ate at Oscar's at the Plaza Hotel downtown one night and it was fantastic! The restaurant overlooks the end of Freemont Street and there were a fair few 'movers and shakers' (politicians etc) there on the Tuesday night that we visited. Definitely worth the visit IMHO.

This was my 6th trip to Vegas (but 1st trip for 3 1/2 years) and I hadn't made it to Circus Circus before now...and wish I hadn't bothered to be honest...it makes me :( and a bit  that this is the hotel that most travel agents in this country tout on their Vegas deals. I honestly think that if my first trip had been to CC then I probably wouldn't have returned.

I was surprised at how little I liked the casino/bars/general feel of the Cosmo, especially as this appears to be the MSE Vegas Thread's hotel of choice these days...but then looking at the balconies I can see some appeal. Generally I didn't like that whole new side of the strip much (although I was told on here that City Center wasn't great before we went!).

Finally, Margaritaville opened a casino (attached to the Flamingo) back in October and this was by far our favourite place to play blackjack, the atmosphere just seemed much more relaxed than elsewhere and the margaritas on the rocks are heavenly...or at least they were for the first few days...

We bought ourselves a little souvenir back from Vegas, finding out on our last morning that we are expecting our 2nd child :T I am guessing we won't be making it back for another 3 1/2 years now!

If anyone is going soon the weather is warming up nicely, there were even some people by the pool on our last day.

This was posted on-line last week. :( The Splash Canyon website was also taken off-line, though is now back up and running.

Don't drive out to that side of town much but if I get the chance to I will go over and have a look. From the picture posted on-line no construction has even begun yet. They have apparently begun grading and trenching for pipes but no structures as yet.

With regards to not gambling in Vegas. My parents have been visiting me here every year for the last 15+ years, spending up to 3 months at a time. My dad has NEVER put a single cent into a machine......and LOVES the place. He always finds plenty to do while my mum has a little flutter ;)
