If you already have a tom tom or any other sat nav wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a USA map for it?

You can also use an android or i phone with a US map installed for a few quid

Have none of the above ;)

Thanks guys for your comments. I actually have a Tom Tom and a USA map is only £26, so I'll probably go for that, just to be safe.

It should allow me to go exploring whilst in Vegas.

I think it is worth it - we bought our US maps a few years ago for our Garmin for about £40 and it's been well worth it...before that point we would take directions printed before we went which was fine, and we got to know the area so mostly OK...but with the Garmin it's so nice to be somewhere we don't know all that well and just stick in the next place we want to go and have directions straight away. Also, we've loaded enough points of interest into it that sometimes we'll realise that 'hey, we're right by XX which we have been meaning to check out'.

We did it for years without a sat nav, but really think it's worth having to get the most out of our stay.

We bought ourselves a little souvenir back from Vegas, finding out on our last morning that we are expecting our 2nd child :T .

Big congrats! And glad you had a good trip. We were talking about visting some casinos we haven't been to in awhile, making an effort to check them out again...CC came up, but we decided to scrap it as last time we were there it was just awful...and we don't have a problem with Excalibur while many do.

AS for CC it was my first hotel back in 1998,, the rooms there are some of the best value on the strip (according to Vegaschatter) and they have just been remodelled, but the casino does leave a bit to be desired

We stayed there on our 3rd trip in 2006. It wasn't that bad. It was nice and clean, but not very soundproof. It was somewhere to lay your head on a night, and dump your suitcases. I did win $191 in there once, so I think I've had my luck there :rotfl:
TBH I much prefered CC to Riveria. We stayed there in 2004 and the place was a scruffy, smelly dump. Never again. Actually on the 2004 trip, we went in November when it rained a lot, and CC (near the Thunderdome) and the Venetian had buckets placed all over. All that money to build places like that and the roof leaks :rotfl:
BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

comping = nowt more thrillin' than winnin':T :j

I think that Riviera was due to be knocked down and re-built as an Elvis themed hotel by Simon Fuller (of American Idol fame, as he owned the rights to Elvis) but along came the pesky credit-crunch.

It has been $7.95 for at least a year, so maybe they are mistaken. I'll email the restaurant manager when I get home, don't have his direct email on this little computer.

Has anyone ever used an iphone over in vegas with a satnav app? I think you can use GPS even with data roaming turned off so this would be a cheap option. Is this correct? and which apps would people recommend?

There are a couple of good ones on the market. I use satnav2 which for the entire world maps is only £8, or just the U.S. for £5. You can choose which ones to download at a time to save on storage. You do not have to use any data as the files are on the phone.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    That is outrageous!
I will never eat there again, far too expensive for me now.:D
