thanks for people's suggestions to this before :)
has anyone been to, and recommend, Miami? Package prices there don't seem toooo bad and it should be a little warmer than here at easter time!

I know this is the LV forum, but recommendations from fellow Vegasites will be much more appreciated ;)
We have been to Miami twice, well 4 times if you count just going to join cruises. Don't know much about the city itself but I guess people go there to be at South Beach. It has got to be the worst single place on earth that I have been to, and I worked in Baku for a year, so that's saying something!
The place is very intimidating, being mainly inhabited by Cubans, you will be hard pressed to hear English being spoken. The waiters are the rudest I have come across, the shops don't seem to want your business, and the Art Deco hotels along Ocean Drive have tiny rooms and are not well presented.
Oh, and I don't know why they call Florida the sunshine state, it does nothing but rain from September to January. They had to move filming of CSI Miami to California because it kept getting interrupted by rain, and if you watch the scenes that are filmed in Miami the ground is always wet, they have to spray it to keep continuity.
We will be going again in December, but straight from Airport to hotel, then to ship, then to hotel, then straight back on plane.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Not a fan then ;)

I must admit Miami doesn't tick many of my boxes either but there's a decent holiday to be had heading for the Keys or going north in Florida ....If I was planning a trip I think I'd do the Keys and a cruise and stay in Fort Lauderdale rather than Miami pre/post cruise.

Thanks for the replies  I'm off in August and need two rooms as it's me and and 4 teens.Should i book something now, or wait? thanks.

I would keep an eye out for special offers from now. If you have a particular hotel in mind, you can book direct with them on their website (they all claim to offer the best rates at the time and quite often have special offers pop up, particulalry if you plan well ahead). You should also do a search on comparison sites like www.travelsupermarket.com on a daily basis and you might well find that the price of a hotel that interests you plummets on one particular site, indicating that they've launched a sale. Then see if the site offers a discount through Topcash or Quidco and grab yourself a bargain!

    sold! ;)

hmm i was concerned about something like that... somewhere more like the Keys in Florida is probably the best bet then... don't think i'm brave enough to rent a car yet :o
so will have to look for transfers, or another destination :D

am quite lazy when it comes to holidays, kinda prefer the holiday to start as soon as you land... so a quick taxi to the hotel, and done.

haha the more i say what i like from a holiday, the more Vegas just ticks all the boxes :D

for the frequent Vegas holidayers, do your friends/family/colleagues take the mick for always going back to Vegas for holidays? not that it bothers me one bit, but just wondering if everyone eles gets it too?!

It sounds like I'm quite similar, every year I try to find an alternative destination that ticks my boxes.....sun,gambling,shopping,food n drink, golf, not far from airport and yes every year Vegas keeps ticking those boxes! Was thinking of doing a 2 centre or a cruise and stay to include Vegas but not coming up with much.

As for work colleagues it's a bit of a standing joke as to where i'll be going on holiday every year but do i care....nope!

Did try Florida one year but as its non gambling we went on a short ferry trip to "cross the allowed to gamble line" just so we could have a flutter....how sad is that!!

Gordon Ramsey Steakhouse in Paris was good, a lot of delays though about 45 minutes to be seated and in between courses (probably because it is still new) the winner of hells Kitchen is there at the moment and was chatting to all the diners after the meal.
oh no...I haven't seen the last season...and now I may find out who wins just by eating dinner. :) I'll be a bit irked if they are running 45 mins late seating us for our 9:45 reservation.

One casino/hotel im not a fan of is the tropicanan and i dont know why. its very white and clean but i just dont like it. very strange i cant pinpoint why this is though because i want to like it.

I'm the same...I just don't like the place...it is nicer since the refurb but I just think it looks...I don't know...something...just not my thing.

Thanks for the trip report - all the reports about Cosmo are making me really excited for our upcoming trip!

Same here...'off to Vegas are you?' and they're so surprised if I say 'no, we're going XXX'. :)

And we research casinos before we go anywhere - not that we won't go if there is no casino, not at all...but if there is one, by golly we will know where it is.

The Strat is great for the price but location isnt. The casino is great for low rollers

Its way to early for any bargain rates but doesnt hurt to keep checking rates on all the links, depends how much you want a bargain really.

Are you aware of the restrictions on under 21s in Vegas. Vegas is possibly the worst destination for anyone between the ages of 16 and 21

having said that there is plenty to keep them occupied if you do your homework
