thanks blindman... may have to reconsider, would love to do Washington, but that seems just as expensive as NYC (easily £900+pp for 6 nights) to stay somewhere decent.

i know it's a different ball game, but when you look at what you can get for even $120 in LV, compared to one of the other cities... :(

Get flights independanty to Washington DC then use Priceline to get a decent 4* for a reasonable price.

Should be less than £900 each

Priceline it -Priceline is rubbish for Vegas but excellent for most other cities. As for where............... what do you like doing ?

I have been to most of the major cities in the USA. I love NYC but having been there quite a few times, I kinda feel like I've "done" it.

The one area I've never really been to, but would love to, is the deep south. Would love a road trip through Louisiana, Alabama, Texas etc.

EDIT: my favourite non-Vegas cities in America are NYC, San Francisco, Boston. I looove Chapel Hill in North Carolina too but you can't really call that a city!

thanks for the priceline tip guys, not used them before.

we just like somewhere nice and comfortable to stay... going out eating, shopping, walking around and exploring somewhere new - just relaxing stuff really.

haven't yet hired a car in the US, so prefer destinations where you can fly direct from london and then get an easy connection to where you're staying. i guess that all adds to the price, because it means we end up staying centrally.

would love to try NYC, Washington, go back to Boston, but it all seems to be a bit pricey at the mo. Toronto intrigues me! Though first choice would be to fly VA, as we've racked up a few miles with them with our 3x LV trips and 1x Boston trip.

edit - sorry, don't want to stray from the LV thread!!

Dont use Priceline without boning up on the relevant Priceline user forums and threads.

Anyone know any cheap places to drink on the strip? Paid $11 for a jack & coke in Planet Hollywood last night. Beer seems to be around $7/8 as standard. Basic economics tells me that I cannot keep spending that all night.

A lot of us play on the slots (minimum bet) and order a drink from the cocktail waitresses. Tip $2-$3 a time, works out ok.
Some of the casino bars do $1 maragaritas or bottles of beer. One of the Vegas experts will be along to tell you where ;)

Play nickle video poker and tip the CW $1 a drink and you can have as many Jack and cokes as you like. The best I did one night was 16 Black Russians, total bill, $16.00
The trouble with that is sometimes the service is thin on the ground. If you are in Planetho, go to the sports bar at the back, slip $20 in a video poker machine, play 25 cents Jacks or Better and you will get served every time your glass is empty.
There are loads of places to get cheap drinks, you should have asked on here first before going, cause there is one thing we know about here, and that's cheap booze in Vegas:beer:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I always get a few crates of lager to keep in the room, then carry two or three cans around with me at all times in case of emergencies. But yeah definitely don't buy full price drinks at a bar!

If you are ever passing mid-strip and need some quick, cheap sustenance, there is a place just around the corner from Bill's where you get a lager and a decent hot dog for $1.99.
