Had probably the nicest thing ever while in Vegas happen last night. As most will know we are staying at the Platinum and know the guys here pretty well. When we arrive they always still know our name. Anyway, last night we go down and ask Julian the valet captain that we need a cab to Bellagio, but instead of going out to the street to hail one he gets on his intercom and speaks to one of the valets. Next thing we know the hotel car pulls up and we are told he will take us anywhere we need to go! So we end up at Bellagio and the driver hands me a card with the direct number to the valet on it and says when we are ready to come home just give them a ring!!
We didn't bother as we were still at Bellagio and got a cab from the north entrance that only came to $5. also went down this morning to arrange a 4 pm checkout tomorrow that normally costs half of the daily rate, but had it added and told there would be no charge
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

is there much point signing up for the rewards cards at different resort families if we're not going to be gambling big bucks (slots only), just sticking in a few dollars wherever we find ourselves and visiting only once a year?

Never stayed at Plat or been there. But, it doesnt look that much further to the strip than Signature. Yeah Siggy is a walk thru the MGM (largest hotel in the world) and it takes 20 minutes to the strip, whereas Plat is along the road, but Stoneman, is it really walkable in your umble opinion?

agree with Froggit - with Total Rewards even if you don't play enough for comped rooms you may get a discount - nothing to lose for joining since it's free. You do get 10% off at the gift shops for having the basic membership too...not likely a huge savings given stuff will be overpriced there to begin with but hey.

Some give you something for signing up too - some give free slot play (usually $10, some you spin a wheel for your freeplay value)...so sometimes it's worth picking which casino within a group you sign up at. If this is accurate, you may as well sign up for TR at Flamingo if they are the only casino in the group that gives $10 free play for new sign-ups.

All will require photo ID, some won't take a UK photocard driving licence...some have had luck with a colour photocopy of a passport (we didn't the one time we tried so never tried again).
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

The largest is The Venetian/Palazzo with 7117 rooms. MGM has 6582

Venetian and Palazzo count as separate hotels I think. Or if not, then add Signature the room count for MGM.

Froggit, given that it's after noon in Vegas, my guess is that Stoneman is on the home made cocktails at the pool again. Either he has left the netbook in the room, or he has fallen asleep over by the windows hopefully with the shade over so they don't get burnt. :rotfl: I'd be so jealous if I wasn't on my way there myself shortly, so I'm only a wee bit jealous!!!

Yes, it's totally walkable. Sounds like Tracy really doesn't like walking. We only got a taxi at Platinum when we were moving to the Rio, and maybe we got one back one night from somewhere like The Orleans or The Rio. We definitely didn't taxi back from Bellagio or that area of the strip. It's very walkable, bearing in mind you walk up and down the strip constantly, so it's only about 10 minutes from the strip max, and that's from a very central part of the strip compared to Signature (since MGM is quite far south).

You know you want to try it. Just don't be overdoing it and pushing their rates up!!!

Acording to wikipedia i was wrong. MGM is the 3rd largest in the world

    1 The Venetian & The Palazzo Paradise 8,108 rooms 52, 37, and 14 floors (3 towers)
2 Izmailovo Hotel Moscow 7,500 rooms 4 towers, Alpha, Beta, Vega, Gamma-Delta, 30-stories each
3 MGM Grand Las Vegas Paradise 6,582 rooms includes MGM Grand (30 floors), Signature, Skylofts, and The Mansion
