    Stop it, I'm not listening!!
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Ha - you too? Sometimes I wonder if MGM is just a bit 'oh COME ON already' with that machine...then again, plenty like us try to have a go on it most trips so maybe they are happy it keeps ticking over. I do usually win on it, but not much...nothing like the Lion's Share or anything, clearly. :)

I know what you mean - its certainly a little bit of a niche nostalgia thing they have going when you incorporate the $2m+ jackpot :D

I quite like the myth that its saddled with too (ie. "the winner gets to keep the machine" etc etc), and so on...

I did see on another forum that a couple of people have scooped up $10,000 in the last month or so... maybe it's close to triggering ;)

what kind of room at PH and is it comped?
You said to me when we met at PH that time and had such an awful room originally 'I didn't recommend it to you...' so I'm surprised you're going for it. :)

    No it's not comped. And it's a Hollywood Hip:eek:
I know I said some time ago that I wouldn't stay there again, but the offer came in so cheap ($600 inc tax for 10 nights) that I thought "I am saving so much that I can afford quite a bit to "tempt" them into getting us a better room, and if not I will just see how much an upgrade is".
I know it's a gamble but we have stayed at the Platinum about 10 times now, and it has become tiring having to get the car out (or grab a cab) every night we go out. Thought it would be nice just to finish the evening and slip into an elevator as we are almost always in PH anyway at the end of the evening. And we have saved on car hire, only having one for the 6 day middle portion.
The other thing is that we like to keep fit and watch what we eat, and having the kitchen actually makes it worse. Load up at Walmart with goodies and get the munchies when we get in at night. Not been unknown for us to get in at 1am and eat a banana creme pie and put a pizza in the oven.:o

Shall I give my commission back now?

If you ask for an room upgrade at check-in, is the cost usually the 'standard' difference between the 2 rooms?

The room I'm thinking of asking to upgrade to is a couple of grades above the room I've booked (Vdara deluxe suite to city corner suite). If available of course, I wouldn't expect a comp upgrade... but it'll be a 3rd stay there, so who knows..? :D

comp upgrades are rare unless you have booked the room direct with the hotel, and not through a 3rd party

Fair enough - so look at this as an economical trial trip - you never know, you may find you love it (even in a HH room)...or you may find that you've got it out of your system and that you prefer Platinum.

I still regret that PH stay terribly...at that point we were getting Caesars comps (Palace Tower)...I'm convinced that not staying at Caesars that trip when we could have is why we get no decent comps there anymore - we had stayed there a couple of trips before and the comps kept coming...but no more...so terribly sad...though the PH resort room we had after they moved us was great.
