VALUE FOR MONEYI wouldn't bother with Walmart when you first get there. Most of them are a way off your route to the Platinum.
There is a 7/11 right beside the Platinum to get water and bits and pieces when you first get there. Walk out of the Platinum, turn right onto Flamingo, take the next right past the petrol station, and there you are. Ellis Island is a few steps away for Metro Pizza, a sandwich place and their famous BBQ. A decent breakfast is the $5.99 NY steak and eggs with breakfast potatoes and toast.
Another cheap place for water and beer is the Stage Door. It's a really dumpy casino across from Bally's and behind. Bill's. They have a convenience store in the back, and sell beer, spirits and a selection of snacks among other things.
Map of the area
I hope the little map helps.0 -
thanks pebbles that looks perfect for us ... i think the problem is ( amongst so many others lol) it's so hard to imagine things when you havnt been ... never mind in a weeks time i will have been and moved onto grand canyon and will be able to fully appreciate exactly what people mean when they talk about vegas
we fly to london tomorrow and have printed off our london boarding passes ... just trying to get the weight down in the cases now rofl0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYthanks pebbles max that will cheer me up to tell him
...some one gracioulsy worked out the cost of a taxi to the platinum before and i thought it was reasonable.... i really didnt fancy a shuttle at all lol
i think he is just starting to panic about money as a friend of his is there just now and keeps posting on facebook how expensive the place is ...
That is so wrong IMO, I dont have a loy of cash, thats why i go to Vegas because it is the best value place I have ever been.
Of course it can be expensive but it can also, almost be free, We almost always eat buffets and always have 2 for 1 coupons, infact we have coupons for most things that we do..If we do eat out we use restaurant. com coupons...I could go on but you get the picture
EDIT TO ADD
I see you have lots of other replys along the same lines (I didnt read that far)0 -
i think i am missing out on the resturant coupons ... i checked resturant.com but didnt see anything for anywhere i fancy ....
i fancy trying the cheesecake factory, mon ami gabi , the peppermill , stripburger and maybe Envy ... does anyone know if i can get vouchers for there ?
we will be making this holiday as cheap as we can as we have had to borrow to go ( whole long uninteresting story) but i am determined that although we will be sensible with the money we are not going to miss out on things just to save a couple of dollars0 -
Envy is on restaurant.com, but it wouldn't be the kind of place to go if you are watching the pennies. A steak is around $50 each without sides and drinks.
Try the Harley-Davidson Cafe which is on restaurant.com0 -

Envy yes on restaurant.com unless they are sold out at the minute (search may need to be within 5-miles of the strip, not sure)...Stripburger maybe if you're really lucky and you can log on on 1st august, but doesn't seem likely given your timings...the others I don't think they are on restaurant.com.
Remember that portions in the US are massive - somewhere like Peppermill and Cheesecake Factory especially...we aren't small people, and we do each order a main as we like different things, but both probably leave 1/2 of our meal uneaten...places do have split plate charges, but if you want the same thing, may be worth going that route rather than ordering 2 separate things.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYactually, that's a point...none of the places you mention are really the lower end in terms of price...so if you are trying to make it as cheap as possible, the restaurants you are looking at aren't really going to fall into that category...unless you mean that you really want to try these particular places but you want a discount if you can get one.
And as for drinks in the sink...many Vegas hotel rooms do not have a fridge...sometimes you can request one (sometimes they will charge you for it, or you can try leaving a tip for the maid with a note asking if you could have one).
But ultimately the hotels do not want you in the room...they want you out in the casino, so they aren't going to give all the comforts you might want without asking...they want you to have to come down to casino level to get your water/soda/coffee and maybe stop and play for a bit.
Obviously does not apply to non-casino hotels.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
SHOWSI have a Stripburger voucher you can have I think El . Let me know and I'll have a rummage. I can email it over to you.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

I would like to try these places ( maybe) but only if i can get them cheap enough ... i would be happy eating somewhere cheaper as long as the food tastes nice
And as for drinks in the sink...many Vegas hotel rooms do not have a fridge...sometimes you can request one (sometimes they will charge you for it, or you can try leaving a tip for the maid with a note asking if you could have one). i think my husband was just a bit surprised that they chose to put a photo of a sink fully of ice and coke on facebook ... this was just one of the things that they discussed over the last fortnight ( the couple have been there for that long)
