hey all , me again sorry

just discussing things with hubby re taxis from airport etc ... i showed him the first page of the thread and the tip * tell the taxi driver not to take the tunnel* and he noticed there is a shuttle bus that goes to the main casino's , does anyone know if it goes to bally's? and roughly how much it would cost ... just so i can tell hubby and he can figure out if it's worth the hassle

There are shuttle buses to all the casinos, but you would have to wait for the bus to fill before you set off, and then they would drop people off in order, so you might be on it for quite some time. I seem to remember a price of $7.50 per person, so considering that a taxi to Bally's would be in the region of $14 to $19 according to this, you wouldn't be saving much and could lose quite a bit of time.

There are several shuttle companies, and are approx $7.00 per person one way to a strip hotel, or $9.00 to downtown hotels

They depart every 20 minutes or so, but you could be waiting longer depending on traffic, and they drop off at several hotels along the way

last time I used one, took over an hour from leaving the Terminal to arriving at Flamingo

I'm guessing comments from people who did little research before going.

Vegas can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be...but for a lot of the good deals, you have to have done a bit of research beforehand.

Some things are quite expensive in Vegas (drinks from most casino bars, noteably)...but there are options.

I am relieved you have decided not to bother with the shuttle it is, to my mind, totally not worth any savings - especially after a long-haul flight - and agree with those who have said that there would be little savings to be had anyway.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Agree with you ferf. Little or no research usually results in an expensive trip. We couldn't go for so long if it wasn't for the bargains to be had if you look for them.

agree with you guys, we comfortably survive on the budget we set ourselves...

you're right though, if you start buying drinks @ bars, and eat in Wynn every night, it can soon add up :)

our trips now though are considerably less (cost wise) than they were first time we went, however we don't have the urge to do some of the costly things again (go up Eifel Tower, Shark Reef, Siegfried's Tiger Habitat), so naturally our spend is lower.... we probably spend the money on other things in their place though...

we've only ever had a budget of $200 (total) per day all the times we've been Vegas... just now we seem to spend less so tend to do the occasional splurge now and again :)

you have squarely hit the nail on the head here ... the last comment was place under a picture where they had ice in the sink with bottles of coke in the ice me el asked why they didnt use the fridge and the reply was ... it costs $25 to open the door ... mr el said dont you have a fridge that you can use without having to pay bar prices the reply came back no

so the couple are staying at mandalay bay ( not sure what kinda rooms etc) and have a room with only the bar fridge

i think from my persepctive i am panicking incase i havnt researched enough .... there just seems so much to research ...

where as mr el is panicking because of the friend on facebook that has been talking about mainly bar prices and water prices

you seem to be doing things right to me - its a lot to take in I admit - I don't think anyone gets it right first time though (we certainly didn't - we weren't aware of hotel discount links, also on our first day there (ever), we sat down at a bar-top Video Poker machine and were quietly gutted that a couple of drinks cost us $14 when we thought it may be free ---- plus we lost money on the machine :D )

yeah, the drinks machines in hotels can charge you $4 for a bottle of water... we've paid when we've been caught short (middle of the night and can't be arsed to try and find a shop open), but in reality, most people stock up @ Walmart or on the 99c bottles that ABC Stores tend to sell, however if you go out of your way to do Walmart / ABC stores just to buy a bottle of water, then the money you're saving translates over to be time wasted instead so it can be a balancing act, though these little savings here and there mean you have more cash for the more refined aspects of Vegas (should you so choose :D )

    thanks NVH

we were thinking of getting the taxi to stop off at walmart before going to the hotel so that we can just get on with the business of relaxing but mr el came up with some things

how long it would take us to get round the shop and get the stuff ( if we have the taxi waiting at 50cents a min /20 min $10 for example)

if we can get a taxi easily enough from walmart to the platinum ( say we send the taxi away )

we kinda decided then that the whole time wasted v's money spent on going to walmart might not make it worthwhile .... so thought maybe just get to the hotel then go and search for a shop ... i kinda liked the idea of doing walmart though so that we could just relax

i'm liking the idea of relaxing lol
