Stoneman - I'm not sure we'll fly with them again, and also if the points expire due to period of inactivity it could be pointless. I'll definitely look into it though.

    .

If you don't know your holiday plans for the next 18 months then it may be of benefit or it may not BUT it's a free programme so all you'd lose is the few minutes enrolling surely ?

Also expiring points can be saved by aditional points credited/debited to the account -any activity on the account (eg internet shopping through the miles shopping portal or transferring miles in from a supermarket loyalty program) resets the clock.

I had a few stray miles in my UA account and have just used them to book a free night's stay at Malmason in Belfast. Not the most efficient use of miles but they'd have expired so I've got a free night worth over £100 just by bothering :)

A lot of people lose out by not bothering to check out how airline programs work and assuming it'd be "point" less !

Definitely going to have a look at the BA point program. There may also be other partners we could use. I think it's fairly unlikely we'd fly with them regularly - they don't fly to the US from Glasgow without doing a London stop, and I'm not overly keen on the Heathrow change either. Last time we had luggage that didn't make our flight, although thankfully we got it back. I'll also need to check if I maybe did sign up last time we flew with them (to Florida), although I'm thinking maybe not - I think maybe it was an AA flight to Miami and maybe only the London-Glasgow leg that was BA. Paul Daniels was on the flight though, which was a bonus, although unfortunately he couldn't magic our luggage onto the plane :)

part of me does wonder if there's some confusion on the part of check-in staff as to the free breakfast for international guests...if some are assuming it's for all international guests and adding it, or if there's a glitch in the computer system that's tagging all international guests (I remember luci said that she didn't mention it - the check-in clerk did - even though she didn't book that package).

we'll see...not saying it will make a difference, but people may want to stop asking Cosmo about it as if it is a misunderstanding or glitch, too many queries about it could get that misunderstanding or glitch sorted out. :)

We booked Cosmo not expecting free breakfast as we booked the 20% off deal for international guest - nothing with breakfast included...would be cool if it is, but we would have booked anyway...probably better if people don't expect it?

    Yes you are right ferf.

We found the breakfast offer after booking with a third party so I didn't give it a second thought as we hadn't booked it.

However the check in clerk told us that breakfast was included which was a nice surprise and a bonus.

I think those that are emailing or calling the Cosmo are shooting themselves in the foot. It will only alert them that some may not be eligible.

If you booked and offer which included breakfast then you will get it. Just take your confirmation with you if you want to make sure.

If you didn't book an offer that included it, then if you get it it will be a bonus, not something you have booked.

American is part of One World -if you already have points with AA you could credit your BA flights to them too.

    Hi all

don't know if anyone has ever seen it but points.com is a decent site for keeping all your hotel/ flight miles tracked. I had some miles that were due to expire and not worth much so 'sold' them to points.com for £55 last night. You can chose to do this via paypal and it took a couple of days to come through. You can also swap then with other people or chose gift vouchers etc (all US stores) but the paypal option gave you the most back. Might be worth a look if you have miles expiring soon
If at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.

OK, I have to have a better look at this tonight when I can give it more time...but if I'm looking at it correctly, I can get a ridiculous amount of vouchers (seems United's programme doesn't allow PayPal unless I'm doing something stupid, which is entirely possible) for various US retailers for my miles that will expire in September (will not use them, and went off them years ago when we earned them through Continental)...I have quite a lot...but we prefer AA and Virgin...kept meaning to see about some free flights one time, just to use the miles, but left it too late...not sure I can be bothered with finding a way to keep the miles active - ESPECIALLY if this is an option.

If I am not doing something really stupid here and totally got the wrong end of things - I will owe you quite a lot of drinks! :)
