Do you ask when you check in "how does the international guest free breakfast work"? Otherwise you end up spending a few hundred bucks on brekkie there, that you may not get back, whereas if you knew it wasnt free, youd have gone to Dennys/got a bagel and OJ in a food court etc.illegitimi non carborundum0

VALUE FOR MONEYif it's not mentioned to us when we check in I'm just going to ask 'are you still running the promo for free breakfast for international guests?' and see what they say...if it's included then great, we will take advantage of it, if not, we'll likely source our breakfasts elsewhere.
part of me wonders if previously they DID have a promo of this nature - that applied to all international guests, but it's ended, and now only applies if booked through the free breakfast package (or with a 3rd party that includes this)...price of the package does seem to be the same as the price for booking room only - so it is a 'deal'...but not as good of a deal as the 20% off, or via some UK 3rd parties.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Thats my dilemma, there are 4 of us (2 ad,2ch)in our room so will soon add up if its not free and would probably choose a cheaper option. There is actually 9 of us in total so would certainly be a fair amount if not deducted.... As Photome said it got deducted every day so might give it a go on first day and see how it goes.
Last year I stayed for 1 night booked through netflights and I mentioned at check in about the free breakfast as I thought at that time it was all international guests but check in clerk said it depended on which package you booked. I didn't push it as had nothing to say I had breakfast included.
Think I will not say anything and charge it to my room on first day and see what happens.
Staying 23/8-26/8 so will let you all know if im successful.0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYFot those who have travelled with Virgin, what really are the differences between economy and premium economy? We are flying from manchester in aug and can uprgade the whole trip to PE for £300 extra each, is it worth it?! From what the website says, premium seems to be like the business class option. Have I got the right end of the stick with that or is it just a slightly better economy?!0

VALUE FOR MONEYpremium economy isn't business by any stretch of the imagination...it is better than economy, but whether it's worth an extra £300 is a personal decision...we are flying PE in October, mainly because we (I) wanted to fly direct, and couldn't bear the thought of economy on Virgin mainly because the limited number of pairs of seats - I didn't relish the idea of 10-11 hours each way stuck with a random stranger next to us.
We have done it a couple of times before - only out of LGW, not MAN, so not sure how they would compare...was it worth the extra? Probably not, all things considered...but for a treat, for us, it was (and is) occasionally...extra leg room, wider seats, nicer overall treatment, off the plane faster, etc.......you do get an extra checked bag each in PE - so that could be a savings for folks who would want to check more than 1 each...nowhere near a £300 savings, but it helps.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Thanks Ferf, I was thinking of it as a treat too. The main thing for me is the not being jammed in with loads of other people and extra legroom. Might hang on and see if it goes down any further. Have sent them an email to check availability, I will be miffed if I pay to upgrade then we cant sit together!0 -

I've flown all classes on Virgin (and others) and IMHO their PE is simply not worth the extra.
Also with Virgin their cabin crew can be inconsistent in service quality.
TR example from V-Flyer
I would hate to pay a premium to fly a better class and find the service is not up to standard.
IMHO with Virgin either fly economy-not too bad TBHO and splash out in Vegas
Or
As I do
Collect Virgin FF miles by every means possible (except flying;)) and fly UC using miles-costs the same as Economy but the service is great:D0 -

To be honest, I think the new layout is pants. The bubble is always the holy grail to sit in on a VS 747, and in the old config it was all PE, service was always good up there. we went from MAN once and there were only 10 people on the whole upper deck. With the new layout the cabin has half Y passengers up there:eek:
The thought of having the unwashed on the upper deck would make me choose never to fly with Virgin again;)The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
