VALUE FOR MONEYIm slowly working my way through the posts in this thread and Im getting more and more excited by the thought of taking a holiday there! I think its the pictures of the food that's done it! Has anyone stayed at the Luxor? What's it like?
Its budget/mid range as far as prices go, I have never stayed there although I keep thinking I should just to stay in the pyramid (for novelty factor) and ride the inclinator (is that right). The pyramid is much older than the tower, so the better rooms are in the tower.
It has a food court with all your reg fast foods
Main reason I havent stayed there is that I dont like the location, it is to far south (for me)0 -
I was a bit worried about location. Is there any good budget/mid range hotels with a better location on the strip or would they be more expensive? What about ones that off strip but pretty central?0
-
VALUE FOR MONEYdepending on what you're after there are mid-strip options that will be the same or less than Luxor...Ballys, Bill's, Harrahs, Flamingo, Imperial Palace come to mind.
We stayed at Luxor once for one night for the very reason photome mentioned - novelty of staying in a pyramid - and it was OK, but not something we would likely do again...we loved the room at Mandalay Bay though and would probably stay there again if we wanted south strip.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I'd like to use my smartphone as regularly as I do at home - checking in, uploading pics to Facebook, etc. as we go along.
Naturally I'll use free wifi where I can get it, but would like to have the freedom of using data wherever/whenever.
I went to Europe recently and in a few days hit the 50mb limit and the £40 ceiling!
I have a T-mobile sim card. I top it up $100 at a time and this keeps the number for a year. I have the t-mobile app ont my phone and can switch between plans to suit what I want. We usually go for one or two months at a time, so this works well for me. I get Internet for $3 per day, and free texts and calls within USA. The UK calls are quite expensive, but I just call my parents, let them know my room number, and they call me back.
It's not necessary to top up $100 if you're not bothered about keeping the number from trip to trip. You can get a sim card and top up with enough to last you for the duration if your stay at $3 a day, the staff at the shop on Flamingo/Maryland Parkway are pretty good at sorting out what you need.
If you're there for a while you might be interested in the plan I used last trip. It was $50 for the month and included free calls to the UK. I just used my credit and changed to that plan. When the month was up, I changed back to the $3 per day until we went home. (I did top up $100 before we left so I have the same number next trip)
I hope that helps and isn't too rambling.0 -

MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYForgot to say that the $3 per day is for unlimited internet access, but it slows down after 30mb.0

Can I ask why? are the rooms a bit dated? Or is it that horrible way you actually have to get into the place - i.e play chicken with the taxi's? :eek:BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

Had a friend go last year for the first time stayed at IP and loved it. I havent styaed there for more than 10 years so dont know what the rooms are like now..apart from cheap with a rubbish pool.
BUT there are reports of construction noise due to the Linq at IP, Harrahs and flamingo so may be an idea to avoid them all until the Linq is finished0 -

is that a uk sim card, or one you picked up in the US?
is the 30mb 'limit' per day or per month?
we only go for a week at a time, so not bothered about keeping the same number0
