The words "promo for $149 for room" in my post is the actual link. Just click on it.

lol i did look at THEhotel ... but there were so many bad reviews about it ... i'm telling you one of the worst things i did was research all the hotels ... i was at it for hours on end

were thinking of the Desert Rose which is just off the strip

Another one off the strip but with shuttle service is Tahiti Village Resort, it has kitchens and a lazy river,it is very near south outlet mall.
Not stayed there and havent read reviews....just thought I'd throw it in!

Reading reviews...If a hotel has constant bad reviews I would probably avoid it but if its a mixed bag I wouldnt be put off. Some people moan just for the sake, things like waited for the lift for too long...that would not be an issue for me in the slightest but seemed to be a major prob for someone else.
In my experience (stays include PH,Paris,MB,Cosmo etc) if you are going for mid to higher end hotel they are great hotels and I have little or nothing to complain about but maybe im just easily pleased!
Im sure you will have a great time wherever you stay.

I honestly dont know why you have been looking at tripadvisor, the best advice would be from people on here IMO.

Between us we have stayed at most hotels in Vegas.

I have stayed at 14 different hotels in Vegas ranging from Circus Circus to the Wynn,Pallazzo and THE Hotel

Out of the ones I have stayed the overall best room coupled with overall best pool goes to.....THE Hotel

never stayed at Desert rose and more than likely never will

I cant see how you would be disappointed with THE Hotel then again I havent been disappointed with any hotel even Circus Circus where the rooms are great and can cost as little as $30 a night.

THE Hotel suites have a large lounge 2 toilets, huge bathroom and a kitchenete

Hi, we stayed at the Desert Rose on our last stay, although admittedly can't comment about the pool as we're not really pool people.

What I can say is that for us it suited very well. Was on budget I paid £250 for the week, I paid our security deposit in cash $100, to avoid any probs with credit cards.

We've stayed on previous visits at Barbary Coast, now Bill's Gamblin Hall, Stratosphere, MGM Grand, Carriage House and Desert Rose.

To date I'd say Desert Rose ticked the boxes for us the most. I like a kitchen, you also get the coffee pot plus free coffee, you also get a kettle and all things needed required to cook/bake....pots, pans, dishes, etc. Microwave, cooker, fridge, freezer. There's ice machines in the hallways, laundry facilities on various floors.

Oh and a biggie for me is free internet access. Also no resort fee.
We stayed on the ground floor and there is a little balcony as well which is pleasant to sit out on.

There is no view as such but we're ok with that.
Parking and getting back to our room was so easy, having trekked many miles through the huge hotels from car to room repeatedly, this factor is something that matters a lot to me.

Decor I'd describe as a little tired and needs updating but the bed was super comfortable, the safe in room worked fine, no noise from neighbours, felt safe and secure when in. Tons of room to mooch about in or when one was having a nap the other could watch tv in the sitting room area.

The free breakfast was great, we filled up when we needed to and the free starbucks coffee is fabulous, anytime day or night. I also would fill up on the free orange juice, various sodas in the takeaway cups for when we went out daily.
Convenient and saved us money...it was a super budget trip as I paid for it all as my hubby's 50th birthday surprise.

The key question for me is would we stay there again, definately!
It ticks a lot of boxes for us, ease of access, facilities that I use e.g. kitchen, seperate rooms so no cabin fever feeling, coffee pot etc but free coffee whenever, free breakfast which does the job, car to room in less than 3 minutes.

However as I said before we're not pool people so can't comment on that, I believe they have outside grills also if you want to barbecue.

Its clean, safe and secure, staff were friendly and accommodating.

Hope that gives you a better picture.

Stayed at the Carriage House too and loved it also, pool is adequate (we went into this one) and they have a hot tub area also. However the extras at Desert Rose win it for me.

Thanks everyone for the help to answer a few questions ( and no doubt forget to answer others as i aint quoting :) )

i had read about the credit card problems with the desert rose but i also noticed that the last incidence of this was March 2011 so i assumed ( possibly wrongly) that this issue would've been dealt with by now,

i have noticed that it seems to be a problem with a few hotels ( theft) and not that i would say that would deff put me off going somewhere as i am aware that as an individual i have to take some of the responsibility for where i leave my belongings etc, but what seemed to surprise me more was the continual stream of people saying the management didnt seem to take the issue seriously

i liked the sound of the desert rose as it seemed to tick the boxes for us , in the sense that the rooms seemed to be clean and not too bad a size, there were kitchen facilities including washing machine, fridge, cooker etc, not all the facilities we need ( mainly fridge, kettle )but it could mean i would need to take less clothes ( as we are going for 3 weeks all together) the price is very good ( which was a bit of a worry ... if it is so good why so cheap) it has a pool ( which we were looking for) and a complimentary breakfast ( nice but not essential)

i dont only go by trip advisor as i know these can be skewed some what, i treat it like wikipedia a good place to start but dont believe everything you read

i also dont listen to all the moans, in all the time i have read reviews i tend to ignore the ones that go on about pillows not being fluffy enough etc, but i pay attention to the patterns, if people are continually complaining about cleanliness, stealing, noise etc then i have to assume that these are problems in the hotels i am looking at

i have avoided coming on here and asking so many questions about specific accomadation as i dont want to pester everyone, i understand you are all a wealth of information but i am also aware that you must get requests for help for accomadation all the time and i imagine it must get grating on your nerves ( possibly i am assuming here ) if the individual hasnt even had a basic check

i dont mind staying a bit off the strip, and tbh we arnt really going to vegas to gamble so staying in a casino hotel is not essential to us

will have a good read of all the hotels that you have all mentioned ...

thanks again very much for the help ... any more advice most welcome :)

tbh i probably would love THE hotel i am sure i would when i was there, the thing is i have never been to vegas before so i am not sure what is great accomadation and what isnt .... i can only go on the things that i have read so far ( not all of which is trip advisor)

i thought i knew loads of people in real life that have been to vegas so i have asked the ones i thought wouldve been, only two of them have ( goes to show you i dont know many people lol)

one recommended the wynn to me, so i looked that up and decided against that due to the thieving issue ( and lack of management dealing with the issue)

the other stayed at circus circus, i instantly thought of mse here as i know there is a think about these hotels before you decide kinda list on here and circus circus is on it ... they also said it was ok not great so that made it a deff no

both of the friends i have spoken to only go to gamble so they wanted to stay where the action is, which is totally understandable and i am positive i will want to go and see the casinos etc while i am there

thanks for the link to the tahiti ... it looks very nice ... it looks to have a bigger pool as well so shouldnt have issues with getting a bed beside the pool

i agree that with you on the reviews front that is the bit i was thinking if it has so many reviews saying the same thing and if that was something that would bother me then it takes it off of the table ... i also find some people do moan about simple things and i just ignore those reviews

i will continue with my search today and hopefully at the end of it i will have something organised

Darn , that is one of the main reasons we are going as well .... We want to lie by a pool for a few days and just relax after all the stress weve been under

Were really struggling to find a clean, comfy place were we can have basic kitchen facilities (fridge kettle etc) that doesnt have a theif problem ( was shocked at how bad it seems to be in vegas hotels) we dont mind paying a wee bit more but we are also aware that with the more expensive places like the Wynn and Venetian etc the prices for coffee etc is also more expensive

Were also looking for a pool ( preferably adults only ) were we can just relax ... One with a lazy river would be nice but i noticed either mgm or mandalay bay ( i cant remember which) charges for the the use of the rubber ring

I've been looking for over a week now and thought the desert rose might be the one .... Maybe not sigh

i can't remember what your other requirements were, but have you tried the Vdara? even the entry-level 'deluxe' rooms are lovely with kitchen facilities. it's super-clean and friendly.

the pool and hotel is super-relaxing (no casino), there is no lazy river, but you don't get many families staying there, so the pool is pretty chilled out with a more 'adult' feel. (NB adult, not 'European!')

we'll be staying there for our 3rd time, in September, and can't wait :)

be happy to answer any questions you may have :)

and as others have said, remember TripAdvisor is going to have a relatively high number of bad reviews, as it's the place people will go to air their grievances. but a lot of the time, the people themselves are the cause, or at fault, have misunderstood something, or had far too high expectations. balance them out with all the great reviews + the contented people that don't go online to leave a review.

you could still stay somewhere which has 100% positive reviews and have an unsatisfactory stay :)

edit: PS - i'm sure if you're staying somewhere for 3 weeks, an email to a hotel would probably get you some kind of great deal I would have thought? free credits, waive resort fees, etc?

hi secret machines, yes i did look at the vdara and at one point it was between vdara and the platinum both looked really good to us ... i have looked at so many places now so i cant remember why we chose not to go with one of these two and went for the desert rose instead ... i porbably shouldve written it all down

will re look at them both

yep i fancy adult not european ... only discovered such a thing as european existed when i started looking for hotels in vegas ... i always called it topless lol

we are going for three weeks but we are not planning on spending it all in vegas, we also have grand canyon ( although we are thinking of staying in vegas longer and doing day trips to the canyon by bus ) death valley , yosemite park ( which is a nightmare to get accomadation for... trying to get accomadation for everywhere is sending me nuts) san fransisco, lake tahoe and redwood national park .... so i have accomadation to sort for everywhere
