Although a lot of customers could help themselves better. There must be a lot of people who order for delivery who could have them delivered to a friend / neighbour / family member, or have them delivered to work. I'm not too bad as the depots for pretty much anything (bar City Link) are within a couple of miles, but some could save a lot of hassle by changing the delivery address (where possible)
lol.we are the same
citylink used to be a 10 minute walk from our house
now its 50+miles round trip
I don't think moing their depot out of the capital is the smartest move0 -

Depending on how close you are to "carnage" already, it would take a sizeable increase in traffic to make a huge difference. If there was 5% extra window traffic, how much difference would that make? If small Post Offices suddenly received huge amounts of business, that would create a case for building more windows, or moving to bigger premises. We had a Post Office open near us. They just built it in a corner of a Spa. Four windows if I recall correctly. But, while I believe that collection services will become more popular once someone gets it right, I don't believe that it will be so successful that collection points will get overwhelmed. And if they did, then they could rebuild/move to get more suitable premises.0 -

where would the money/space for the bulding work come from?
it easy to say extra business creates more income.so build more
howeer I doubt many POs would be looking to make large outlays under RMs plans right now.
RM has been eroding their income for years(those left open that is)0 -

yeah it's not that far from me but further than the others. Probably only 10 miles away. Although because it's on an industrial estate I whacked it into the sat nav because I wasn't sure if it was City Link where I thought it was (if that makes sense). I half followed the sat nav and half drove there from memory; I was sitting in the car park and it told me I had 20 miles left.0 -
I'm not convinced that the current situation cannot be improved without additional costs. Delivery to people's homes during working hours is inefficient, and results in many repeated delivery attempts, returned packages, and claims for lost packages. Much time is wasted waiting for collections etc., which when it's on the part of the vendor, costs. I believe that something like Collect+ is a more appropriate model for sending packages. But, first it has to be run properly. And second it has to build a critical mass, e.g. being made an option for major vendors such as Amazon, etc. Both of these will take time, but I believe that they will happen. Not necessarily with Collect+. If using local shops as dropoff/delivery points started becoming popular, then other existing companies would probably introduce competing services. What if the PO changed its system so that you could pick up packages at your local post office, not a centralised sorting office? And that you could specify that you didn't want the package delivered, that you would pick it up. The infrastructure is already all there.
Yodel already do collect+ deliveries/collections and Amazon have just started using it for returns.
You can already choose to pick up from your local P.O. for a fee.
The collect+ shops I go to/have gone to barely have space for half a dozen parcels a day. They are generally smaller units already jammed with goods.
The owners often complain that people come late to pick up their goods and some don't bother coming at all and the parcels are taking up valuable space.
Every option presents its own problems.0 -
well its been in place that long
so I would say sellers simply aren't interested in using it
In my time i saw one item using local collect 2(as it was called then)
I'd agree that sellers aren't interested in using it, as at least some of them must know about it.
But, that doesn't mean that someone couldn't organise a similar but better service that people would want to use.
As I said before, it will be when someone does the job properly that it'll become more popular.0 -

Yep, as I said, someone will have to do it properly. If Amazon offered Collect+ as an option for sending, then I'd make use of it. But, if there isn't enough space in the shops, that's going to be a limiting factor. Someone else before suggested that Tescos could run a service like this. But, they, like anyone, would have to allocate resources including space.
I don't know how much the shops are receiving for Collect+, but given the prices, it can't be much. A proper service would obviously have to make it worth the shop's while dealing with the packages, including the package deliveries that don't go smoothly. I believe this is possible, but that doesn't mean I believe it's being done right now.
One thing I thought of is that Collect+ may not work for ebay. If an ebay seller sent an item Collect+, or through the PO service, and the buyer then claimed a fraudulent INR, would paypal/ebay accept the documentation that the parcel had been picked up as proof of delivery?where would the money/space for the bulding work come from?

In that conversation, we were talking about a scenario where the PO offices are overwhelmed with package pick up business. This is very different from situation where many POs are slowly dying, so it doesn't make sense to talk about both at once.0 -

You really are in the minority in your thinking as the amount of people using the existing service(compared to those I deliver to normally) shows. Most people don't want to pay for delivery and then have to go to a shop to collect it, they want it delivering to their home/work and on the whole this works fine.
Yes, I've read the complaints on here but I also see the huge amount of parcels that get delivered as expected every day.
To expand this part of the business there would have to be a huge increase in demand for it and to me this would be a backward step as it takes the delivery out of home delivery if you are picking it up yourself all the time.0 -
I was advised today that my order from Boots has mysteriously vanished between Yodel depots!! Can't say I'm surprised after reading the many complaints on here and other forums.
So not only are the things I bought for us now missing but also items I had bought for presents, this is my second complaint regarding Yodel with regards to my Boots orders in less than a week, one of my other orders came opened with 2 items missing.
Boots are now investigating this at a higher level due to having numerous similar complaints, I hope they cease to use Yodel, I certainly won't be ordering large amounts from companies who use them as their couriers, especially Boots.0 -
I ordered on Amazon some whiskas for the kitties, and got worried when the email told me who would be delivering.
I tried to rack my brains to think if i have had yodel deliver before and realised yes they had and i had not had a problem before.
Tuesday the lady who does a lot of delivering around this area arrived at my door with a soggy and battered amazon box.
I did state to her there and then if the item is damaged i would refuse delivery, but she was lovely, explained the box was how she found it this morning, it was like the box was sat on it's side in a puddle and something heavy placed on top, the box fell open on it's side even the whiskas box was soggy and damaged, but the sachets were ok squashed but not open, so i accepted the delivery but did state it this was electrical goods i would not have accepted.
But praise for the woman delivering, totally understood, helped in unwrapping the soggy mess on my doorstep to ensure that the sachets were still ok,0
