I had a catalogue return that Yodel were supposed to collect. They failed to turn up on four occasions. Eventually, when I had the time, and use of the car, I went to the post office (to find it was too large and I had to repackage, unfortunately). Yodel then turned up the day after (4 days after the final collection was supposed to have taken place) and the lady was very huffy indeed that the parcel wasn't there for her to collect.
  • It sounds as if it was a self employed driver that came then.Employed ones will still get paid for it(I don't mind in th eleast if I get there and there's nothing to pick up, one less thing to carry) if there is nothing to return, but self employed ones generally don't get paid for things like that.

Yodel delivered to me today. I ordered from amazon yesterday a Kinect Sensor and game. I found out their branch is about 5 miles from where i live so they must have had one in stock.

However i wasn't in so the parcel was left on the doorstep. No delivery note attached or put through the door.

Now i'm happy that the thing arrived quickly but what idiot leaves a parcel
    on the door step.

Luckily i came home early as i had forgot something. if i had been out all day then parcel would have sat there waiting for some some eagle eyed passer by to be tempted. Also it lashed with rain all afternoon so it could have been left to get soaking wet.

i checked on their tracking site and it said LEFT ON DOORSTEP AS AUTHORISED. Thas a good one as i never would agree to that.

i've a good mind to leave it a week and ring up asking when my order will be delivered :p

left on the doorstep as authorised
    by the customer
    eg the sender

But still in breech of what Yodel state that they will do with an undelivered package.

If the sender hasn't requested a signature, our driver can attempt to leave your parcel in a safe place. To protect the safety of your goods we have certain guidelines in place as to what counts as a 'safe place'. For example, in or around waste bins is not permitted.

I don't know of any sensible person who would consider that a doorstep in view of anyone passing by would be considered a safe place.

I don't know what their guidelines state but I certainly don't consider an open, visible doorstep a safe place.
    Do you?

    thats not my problem
do you think the offical tracking status indicating the item is left on the doorstep, may give a clue?

I didn't ask if it was your problem. I simply asked for your opinion as to whether you consider an open doorstep to be a safe place. (something which you seem reluctant to answer).

Just because the tracking states that the item was left on the doorstep doesn't automatically mean that the Yodel bosses or their guidelines consider it a safe place.
All it may mean is that the driver thought this and was wrong.

When you were delivering mail, would you have just left packages on a doorstep?
I doubt if this is the case If you were like all of the postmen/women who have delivered to me, as all of them seem to make an effort to ensure the delivery is as safe as possible, even if it meant something as simple as putting the doormat over the top to hide it a bit.

Maybe this is because posties are not paid on a per piece basis, where as some courier drivers simply want to get the packages dropped off quickly so they can get to the next place ASAP and earn more money.
  • I missed a delivery by Yodel, Card put through front door saying parcel left in a safe place OVER back gate. It had been thrown over a 7ft gate luckily it wasn't breakable. But they didn't know that.

I may be wrong but I doubt it as all of the posties that have delivered to my various houses make an effort to put items out of sight if possible,

Just because the tracking stated it was left on the doorstep doen't automatically mean that the Yodel managers consider the doorstep to be a safe place. All it might mean is that the driver considered it safe, but the Yodel guidelines may state otherwise.

    i didnt leave items anywhere
its not delivery spec and I didnt consider anywhere outside the house 'safe'
    as you have proven
everyone has a different opinion on whats safe

theres a lot of may, consider etc in your post.
however you don't know the guidlines or even if they are stipulated
managers like ambiguity in delivery.as they can jump on anything the deem as they go along, and let things slide as it suits
