Still going strong.
Didn't even give into the lure of my chocolate Florentines yesterday! Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

I've started reading the Money Less Man and enjoying it.
Left my purse at home today partly because it's heavy and I was walking for an hour to get somewhere and partly to avoid temptation.
How are other folk doing? Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

hey ruby
I'm doing ok, although not as good as I would have liked. This month I have purchased a sewing machine, a top & cardi off of ebay and the glasses and vase. 5 things. Will do better next month

How are you getting on with the sewing machine Ms Determined?
If you would have usually bought a lot more then that is fantastic!
I was tempted to pop in an Oxfam that I don't usually go to yesterday then remembered I'd deliberately left my purse at home so didn't bother. Here dead we lie because we did not choose

week 4 of 52: It's been a COSTLY week
.first of all i had to buy a new mattress for one of the monkey's (essential), big non - perishables shop (got £10 off if i spent £50 essentials), meds for everyone (flu season, essential) eye glasses (essential). This wekend we have chinese new year so thats a day out and a meal which i just got a asda bag with a couple of added extras this year (essential)
Doing tons of surveys thanks to flipin36. they can get pritty zzzzzzzzzzz but i just keep telling myself " i get £10 amazon voucher at the end zzzzzzzzzzzz wake up!" still no way near getting any yet.
found a book called "the secret dreamworld of a shopaholic" by sophie kinsella, im on page 55 after 4 hours. I'm really enjoying this read alot better then "no spending year". its a story book not a doc book. I found it in the charty shop.
at the end of this month i have saved enough to pay my christmas spend on my cards off in FULL. Which is good, but at the end i still dont have any money. I fill i accomplished nothing in the way of savings this month cose i dont see any money in my pocketand now i got to pay for this week? that :wall: . I think its gonna take a month or two before i see any money to call savings
But they are bits that i wouldn't buy every month. I have spent 4 weeks finding out how bad i am at spending and how much money i spend on stuff i dont even need or stuff when i get in put down and forget about it. Big lessons i have learned this month, a real eye opener. 11 more to go!
Happy to hear people are doing well. keep it up. :T0 -

Wow, I wasn't expecting that
I'd totally forgotten that we'd talked about having a Wall of Shame, now I'll definately have to make more effort so I'm not shamed.
Well I feel I've done very well for January so I'm going to continue into February and see how I do.0 -
If only the wall of shame told the full story, I'd be a happy bunny:rotfl:. Hope you are all well, I am actually doing ok, not as well as I would have liked but I am definitely improving! I think I will manage to save £500 this month (the reality is not a saving but a paying off an overdraft, That should translate into savings in future months though. True to my word I am resisting non essential spending and actually enjoying it. Shopping is pretty boring really and today we are off to the park and my parents when DS comes back from football. Tomorrow hoping to go into London to see the Chinese New Year dragon parade. Although a travelcard will be bought, still a cheap day and this year is all about getting up and doing for us as opposed to having things. Experience maketh the man (and woman) and all that so really essential spending to aid growth in our children and us!
I'll let you know how I'm getting on next week.

Well we are almost to the end of the first month and I have spent a grand total of £17 on gifts (Boots 75% sale). I have divided them up and I think there are about 5 pressies for people. So thats Mothers day (2), sisters birthday, mums birthday and Christmas presents for sister.
I haven't spent a thing on myself - in fact I've ebayed and done well on surveys this month so I've been bringing in more money than I've spent so I'm really pleased with myself. Forgotten how fantastic our library is (but am determined to avoid any fines!)
I've also started paying myself, in a sealed tin, for not spending cash; when I walk, or do without. There's a fair bit in there already. This will be bagged up and put towards credit card debt in December.
February I will need - hair dye and mascara. I have £10 in points on my advantage card so I can spend them if necessary but I was trying to save my points for Christmas presents. So back to the surveys. Good luck everyone. Glad I avoided the wall of shame!0 -
No I didn't buy the Wallies transfers.
I did however buy a couple of hideous items from EBay with my Christmas money along with the Butterfly prints I had intended so effectively I wasted some money - doubt I will recoup on eBay but will have ago.
Also I had one Charity shop day.
In February I am going to allow myself another one as I am finding the withdrawal quite hard! Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.

But young men think it is,
