Jumps - I did exactly the same last week, celebrated too many birthdays with lovely food! IMO it's totally allowable, even if it is annoying to see a gain on the scales. Birthdays don't come round very often (once a year maybe?
) It's just a problem when a few come round at once!
Weekends are usually the time where I might relax my eating a bit, but I've been quite strict with myself this weekend, and am feeling the benefit already. All we can do is keep trying, fingers crossed for a better result next week

Well done officeguru ! 4.4 lbs is impressive, you deserve it for having lettuce soup, I really hope it's better than it sounds :rotfl:
Hi Ellie,
Believe it or not, lettuce soup is one of the loveliest soups you can eat.. I have made it for years (to use up a glut of lettuces in the garden)
Here's the recipe if anyone wants it...
Roughly chop the following:
1 head of lettuce (just use cheap lettuce here)
1 medium to large potato
1 onion - peeled
1 1/2 pts of stock and milk mixed (1 pt stock, 1/2 pt milk) (I usually use chicken stock stock cubes here)
I small nob of butter with a little oil (to stop butter burning)
(Don't use magarine here as the results are not as good)
Optional:
a couple of cloves of garlic
a stick of celery (any old stuff that's lurking in the fridge)
a carrot or 2 (any old stuff that's lurking in the fridge)
Method
Put a little butter/oil in a pan - just enough to stop the chopped onions sticking to the bottom of the pot.. Keep stirring until the onions start to go opaque.. Then add the chopped potato (needed for thickening - if potato is too small, the soup will be watery)... Stir and let everything cook for a little longer (add the optional extras here) and pop the lettuce on top... Add the stock first and let it simmer for at least 30 mins or longer until everything is nice and soft.. Taste the soup and season it... If it tastes a bit bland, use extra stock cubes (maybe 1/2 to a whole one) Blitz it with a blender and leave until teatime.. When you go to heat it up again, add some milk to thin it down a bit (or cream if you have any) and enjoy!!!
The butter gives the soup a lovely 'nutty' taste, which is missing if you use a substitute.. and the simpler the soup, the better the taste !!! :beer:0 -
Thanks for the recipe officeguru, it's sounds really nice, much better than I was imagining!
Just ordinary everyday lettuce, not iceberg?
I only cook out of necessity, not for pleasure, but I will definitely try this, I like nice simple recipes

Congrats everyone who posted that they'd eaten 'the wrong' food. It's not really wrong though, it's the quantity and what you do (exercise etc) to counteract it that matters. You're brave to admit what you've eaten but don't feel guilty about it or you're more likely to give in. I'm out to lunch tomorrow and plan to enjoy it without feeling bad about it.
An amendment to my menu, I had dinner at 4.30pm so didn't have any tea but now I'm sitting in bed eating an extra apple

Hi Ellie
Just any old lettuce... If you pick up a reduced one in the supermarkets or lidl or aldi or whatever... I have seen a lot of these prepared packets reduced so I would use that... If you substitute 1/2 a large cauliflower for the lettuce, you have cauliflower soup ! If you add cheese, you have another soup.... If you substitute broccoli and stilton, you have yet another.... All made from the same basic recipe... :j You can play around with it if you want... but, if you want my advice, leave out the butter on the bread and put it in the soup instead... You won't regret it... :T
It's easier to stick to your goal if you make really tasty food :A0 -
I'm becoming obsessed with clearing the snow off my driveway...been out three times this afternoon to do mine and my mums, it's very addictive! My back's aching now though, so will call it quits for the night.
I know what you mean, I got up on Saturday to about 4-5 inches of snow, so spent about an hour and a half digging out the drive way, then also went to my Mums and did hers. Like you I had serious back ache which I still have, but it was great, except for the frozen feet and the beetroot coloured face - I must have burned a good amount of calories - it was the most exercise I've had in a while.
I haven't kept track of calorie intake over the weekend, but eating was ok, so I'm hoping I can stick to it the rest of the week now. I'm aiming for 4lb loss this week to be in the lower stone bracket it would sound so much better to say 16 stone something rather than 17.
We have also visited some friends over the weekend and talked about having a joint mini break together in september - I need to have lost some serious weight before then if I'm to go in the pool with the kids, so need to step up the exercise - I read something over the weekend from someone who plans her exercise into her diary like an appointment. I might try it along with the menu planning as leaving it to chance just isn't happening.:T 2015 TARGETS :TWeight loss 12.5/112lb 18th feb -4.5lb, 25th feb -2.5lb, 4th mar -2.5, 11th Mar -3,
Savings £100 per month £300 /£12000
