sounds complicated! Maybe go back to what you're used to doing for a week to see if it all settles down again?
I saw a personal trainer on TV this morning who insisted that we should have protein for breakfast, that it starts our bodies fat burning...something like eggs, bacon, omelette.
I'm afraid I don't follow all the experts advice, I have cornflakes and a few sultanas every day (slapped wrist!), and I can under stand not eating until later in the morning, because I'm not hungry first thing.
Maybe it's going to be trial and error until you find what's best for you personally.
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
B - F&F, sk milk
L - mug of broccoli & Stilton soup, 1/2 banana in WW pitta
D - veggie omelette
S - apple, satsuma, grapes, melon
E - the usual
missrlr I'm no 'professional' or 'dietician', I don't really listen to what they say because I believe that underneath all the advice we all know what we should be doing. I think that we can get too bogged down in all the web sites, books and clubs etc so we become confused and lose the plot! I have at least 5 portions of fruit/veg a day, never read natural sugar content, only the processed sugars. Fortunately i don't have much of a sweet tooth, a bag of sugar will last about 2 years in my home. If you were managing on what you were doing previously I'd certainly take notice of ellies suggestion and go back to it, and if you really want to cut back on healthy sugars, replace one piece of fruit at a time til your tummy stops rumblingrather than all at once. Mine used to do that during the church sermon on Sundays so I empathise on how embarrassing it is - it did cause a few giggles during a boring talk though

I have hit a wall. Any useful comments would be appreciated. I don't usually do breakfast - never have really. between 10 and 11 I usually have fruit or something. I have been trying to eat porridge in the morning as soon as I get to work (about 815) to stop being hungry. But by 10am I want to eat my own arm. So then I start on other stuff, I have tried fruit (used to eat a couple of pieces at 10/11 and swapped this for porridge and earlier) and then feel more hungry by 1230. Repeat for the afternoon. Then I want chocolate and sweeties and cake in the evening. And my stomach makes the most SPECTACULAR noises when I get hungry, embarrassing in the meetings I have to attend.
Reason I swapped was the sugar content of fruit according to MFP was meaning I was going over by the time I got to the afternoon. Plus porridge is supposed to be filling, slow release, blah blah blah. I just wonder if I am used to eating fruit and so the high sugar content of this is just fine for me whereas the carb content of the porridge is adjusting everything and I am simply not able to munch this.
I think I might be better going back to what I was eating and not having cravings for sugar even though this is "too much sugar" when I eat on average 8 portions of fruit and veg a day. I like my bright colours so quite high in sugar.
The other effect is I DONT WANT to get out the house to the gym - so I am not doing enough, actually as I feel hungry I don't want to expend more energy.
Once you get hungry in the morning, eat something with protein in it! Aim for 15 grams protein (2 medium eggs have 12 grams) with your first meal. I can definitely tell a difference when I've had eggs/bacon/light sausage vs when I've had a pancake, oatmeal/porridge, or cereal. Protein days = not hungry at all and I can make better food choices. Low/no protein mornings = an hour later I want to eat everything!0 -
okay so i decided not to join the gym just yet.... i have a very valid MSE reason though! did some research last night and found out my work will pay for gym membership in advance for me, taking monthly DD off my wages b4 i notice it. It wont start until 1st March however, but it does save me a whopping £10 of the gym fees, so it works out at a little over £21/month! :money:
i have however just done the jillian michaels exercise video that i found online. 30day shred. managed to it today,:T but had to modify from all the jumping jacks/butt kicks etc, as have a dodgy knee/ankle which i need to build strength up on
so did some of them throughout the 20mins, and plan to add a wee bitty more of the jumping about each time i do it.
has anyone does the 30day shred before? did you get good results?
oh food
b-porridge
l-cheese, beetroot and onion salad with crackers
d- fish cake and veg
s - oaty ginger biscuit x20 -
loveme, I have the 30 day shred DVD and it does feel like a good workout but I have never stuck with it to see if it gets results - I just do it as and when I have the time/inclination!
In fact, I just did 10 mins of it before having to stop as I was getting really wheezy. My asthma has been quite bad recently, need to keep an eye on that. Frustrated actually as after spending all day getting up the enthusiasm to do it I was finally ready - and I don't feel worn out or like I couldn't have carried on or anything, just really wheezy and inhaler not helping. Never mind - I will try again another day!
I am worried this week as we have visitors, my cousin from America and his wife, and there will be lots of eating and drinking. I am trying to balance it out over the week so I had 900 cals yesterday and will have about the same today and then if I know we will be eating/drinking loads in the evening I will be careful to have very little during the day. Not ideal I know but I do want to have a good time with my guests - I usually only see them once every couple of years - so I just need to try and limit the damage as much as possible.
Also sad as I have my first wedding dress fitting next week - noooooo! It's too early! I want to lose a stone first0 -
Hi everyone,
misslr - I echo what others have said, in that whatever works best for you. I too find that porridge doesn't fill me up like it should! For me though I'm trying to break bad habits, like having something to eat as soon as I'm back from the school run, when I'm having a cuppa. Good luck.
Food today:
B - porridge(!) with ss milk, tea
L - wm roll, slice of ham, 30g philadelphia, cucumber, bag of french fries
D - out tonight as it's DS's birthday
S - milky bar 69kcal
Currently up to 630kcals so I have some to play with tonight at the restaurant. It's a chinese buffet so will choose carefully

Funny how different we all are! I actually wake up hungry most mornings and have a bowl of porridge at 7am, then a cereal bar and piece of fruit at 10.30am and then my lunch at about 12.30pm.
I have nothing during the afternoon and then my tea at around 5.30pm.
When 8pm comes around I'm feeling peckish...often not hungry but fancying something...this is my worst time.
Food today
B - porridge
L - tomato soup, 1 slice bread, yogurt
T - fish pie, veg
S - cereal bar, satsuma, choc digestive
E - nothing yet...but may go and walk on our treadmill for 20 minutes with my Kindle...lol

thank you - can't quite manage 15g of protein in the am (yet) so started nice and gently. But an avocado and hard boiled egg meant I was not hungry until now so had a protein rich lunch too and hoping this nice feeling continues for the afternoon. Didn't actually feel hungry when I had to raid Mr T for milk earlier and in doing so walked past the bakery. Felt quite liberating there were more aisles I don't have to be tempted down, running the gauntlet of what is on offer, good price, gone up, a con and so on.
Actually this is much close to my normal munching of a few years ago and I feel better today, not quite as grumpy despite all work colleagues trying to do their best to irritate me.
I did my first ever spin class last night and I need to invest in some proper cycling shorts, but aside from that don't feel too bad, probably means I should have put more effort in :rotfl:burnt some calories though and so tonight I am yoga-ing.Start info Dec11

Hi All,
It was my weigh-in on the wii today and I am a wee bit disappointed that I didn't lose my 1.63 kilos so that I would have lost my first stone..but then, I shouldn't expect the weight to keep falling off at the rate of the first two weeks !!! but I am still going down, that's the main thing... :T
Anyway, what's cooking today... When I went into Morrisons last night, I picked up several packets of slices of leg of lamb which had to be cooked last night... so, when I got home, I turned on the slow cooker.. Funnily enough, I had taken out some extra pasta sauce that I had frozen and I also had half a bottle of red wine left... so, I browned the lamb with some sliced onion, when that was done, I added my pasta sauce that had been made with smoked bacon and then poured in the remainder of the wine... and left it all to cook... :j
Last night, just before I went to bed, I turned it off and left it... so this morning, I have popped half into the freezer and I've put a few sliced mushrooms that I had left over into the remainder, which I will serve tonight with salad potatoes...
How does that sound?
Anyway, I have another wee problem that has nothing to do with weight, but some of you might be able to help me with... We have been invited to a 50th birthday get together of one of my husband's co-workers.. We just know him slightly, he's a nice man, who doesn't drink or smoke... a brickie to trade... Any ideas on what I could get him for a present ????
Actually, it does have something to do with weight... If I worry about this, I might start munching again.. and we don't want that to happen... do we. ???0
