  • Well, I hate to say it, but I have been dieting for at least 40 years.. and I have been on every diet known to man! Every year, there was another diet guru in the paper or magazine saying that such and such a diet is bad for you so you should try this one!

Let's face it everyone is different so .... one man's food is another man's poison..

Me, I do my own thing... I tell myself I am not on a diet .. I will only eat if I am hungry... Food is not the answer to every emotional problem... surprise! surprise! Anyway,

Since Wednesday, I have been exercising on the wii.. I like 'The Biggest Loser' as when you put all your details in, it works out a fitness package for you so I am doing all these exercises in the livingroom while others are walking outside to and from the shops etc... I wish I could do that, but I can't and the wii is the next best thing!

Food wise - I am not allowing myself any rubbish..

Liquid wise -Where I drank wine, I am drinking water and where I drank anything else, I am drinking tea! When I was a young woman, we always drank water with meals (I don't know when it changed to wine or a can of pear cider!)

Unfortunately, I bought myself a box of clementines from Lidl.. It was on special offer so I thought that would do me and the OM all week (I live in a small village so the shopping gets done at the weekend).. When I got the home, I tried one and boy it didn't half draw the cheeks in! They were that sour, I couldn't eat them.. and I knew from experience, that they would go mouldy before they sweetened.. so I hate waste... what was I to do???? so I spent all afternoon, making an orange liqueur with them.. So I have now a litre bottle of an orangy liqueur, which is far more palatable that the clementines were.. but don't worry... I'll keep the liqueur for next Christmas :A!!!

    That's so sad :(

Have you checked the label for EVERYTHING you eat and drink? Some things can have massive amounts of hidden calories in them - I was drinking a bottle of fruit concentrate (Tesco High Juice) every 2 days for a few weeks, little did I realize it had 1800 calories (!) packed into a small bottle.

Have you added up how many calories you consume in a typical day?

    Are you eating enough protein?

Is your exercise good enough? Exercise is all about intensity. Only you can decide if an exercise is intense or not. When I exercise in the cold winter air I'm drenched in sweat and my heart rate is through the roof. The old saying "you're only cheating yourself" applies here. You, and only you, know if that exercise you did was challenging.

Remember, this is a numbers game. There is nothing mysterious about it, pure numbers. Exercise and run a deficit of 1,000 calories a day and you WILL lose fat at a safe and encouraging ~2lbs a week (and you will lose even more weight than this, because of losing water).

    Hi DundeeDoll

My OM has 5 boxes of Thorntons Chocolates in the cupboard.. Do you think you could come down to Fife to show me how to declutter them ????

Seriously, I am lucky that I don't like boxes of chocolates... I love white Toblerone though, so I am not buying any !!! :A

Heh. And with this attitude, it becomes clear to me exactly why you have been on a diet for 40 years. :)

There are many people in far worse-off situations than you who lose weight. The difference between them and you? Attitude and education - the two most important things for weight loss, and 2 things that you are severely lacking in.

Oh you edited that pretty quickly - just reported you. Showed your true colours - wish I had quoted you! "vile and loathsome"was it Simmed ?

Mollie, have also reported quoting several of the rude and unprofessional remarks which could be misleading to newbies. Hopefully we can now continue peacefully, as the friendly and supportive forum we are :)

I didn't say the people here are unsupportive. I'm saying the advice here is shockingly bad. Sometimes people become too nice that they become unhelpful. A teacher who never tells the children what they do wrong is not a good teacher, and the children will never lean - although she is very nice. It's very typical of many weight loss support groups - "Sure, dear, shove that chocolate cake into your mouth. You deserve it!"

All I will say to the people in here is, if you really want to lose the fat, follow my advice here.

Thanks, but I found this thread far more helpful. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4302149

Fire Fox is trained in all this, as he states in post number 32. :) And there is good nutritional advice in post 21 too. :)

Thanks for the link. From what I read of Simmed's posts he seems to be posting these spurious posts in several weight loss threads. All seem to be designed to upset the equilibrium of that particular thread. I think it best to put him on ignore - like you would a naughty child !

Wow! Well done!! :T Any tips? :j Thats a great achievement! :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

Thank you! Just eat a variety of foods, homecooked is best really. I never calorie counted or cut out carbs or anything like that, I just made sure that the majority of my food was as good for me as possible, so that every meal counted. If I wanted a ' treat' ie a biscuit or packet of crisps I would limit it to a small amount that I knew I could easily work off in exercise. Portion control is key for me.
As for exercise - lots of walking, swimming, cycling and some weights and things like squats and pushups.
I'm not an athlete by any means but I' m in quite good health for my age (52), normal BP and blood results etc, and only a couple of pounds off my ' normal' weight. Plus, I' m quite pleased with the appearance of my body - very little loose skin or ' saggy bits' due to all the exercise.
