I find it pretty depression how people are discussing chocolate in a weight loss thread. No wonder people in this country struggle so much to lose weight..

Genuine query - Why do you find it depressing (sic)?

On slightly more of a soap box my questions are: Why shouldn't we discuss problem areas / foods and the fact that post Christmas there is (still) a lot (possible more than usual) chocolate around? Clearly we all know over indulgence of such a high calorie food correlates to weight gain. Some find this availability testing or frustrating - why not get it in the open, admit it and deal with it rather than making it a "dirty secret" not to be mentioned? :(

The whole premise of this entire forum is advice and SUPPORT - if we can't discuss a diet related issue and get support here then where can we? What else "shouldn't" we discuss just because this is a weight loss thread? What *should* we discuss instead? Lettuce?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Afternoon people, hope everyone is doing well today.

louby40 – My first session went well (couch potato to 5k) I have gym membership I did this on a treadmill so tracked this at 30 minutes 2.85k. I am not sure about running on holiday though – but well done.

Thanks sparer – I will make a vast pot tonight whilst doing tea … I don’t have any cinnamon other than sticks so will bung one in with it and let it mature over night.

Thank you Mrs_T_M for that recipe – I think I for one will be giving that a go – sounds yummy! I am feeling hungry now reading all the Hairy Dieters recipes … might have to invest in that cookbook.

WelshWoofer – After finally getting on a pc – I have just realised my dog walking pace was my running. I thought I’d start slow at jogging at 6.5km to build up to my 5k and then build up my speed.

Ellie99 – My friend has changed from milk chocolate to dark chocolate and when her chocolate cravings hit she has just 1 square as it is too rich. Would this help? I am hit and miss with chocolate, my problem is biscuits!

Harrybear_1988 ... I have to say the Moroccan Lamb Couscous sounds yummy! Could you share a recipe please.

VALM – There is a few of us using it and we have all added each other if you want to add me my name is SarahWaddy.

Mrs Veg Plot – I pinched it from sparrer – it is cinnamon porridge. I have yet to make it as yesterday went a bit pear shaped and I wasn’t too good today when I got up. I plan on just sticking a cinnamon stick in tonight when I make my vat of it.

I am now on day 3 and so far things are going well – yesterday wasn’t a brilliant day as I felt hungry all day. I am now at my afternoon slump and the mince pies in the fridge are calling … I am resisting!

    B: 3 Weetabix
    L: 2 Ryvitas with philly & a cup a soup
D: HM Shepherds pie (was suppose to have this yeaterday) with veggies
S: Banana, Apple, Plum plus 2 pints of squash so far (I am not a fan of water)

I just need to find some healthy recipes that I fancy trying as you have all made me feel hungry with the yummy foods

Come on jovi! Give them up, you can do it. What helped me give things up was comparing the calories: what would I rather have, a few small chocolates = or an entire pot of natural greek yoghurt with honey? A few small chocolates or an entire plate of tuna salad with mayo? etc..

Thanks for that simmed, I needed your wise words - chocs are now binned!! Wasn't really starting with 100% commitment with them still hanging around, hence they are no more!
I don't smoke and have basically given up alcohol since having my son, so just the healthy eating & exercise to conquer!

I have just re-joined MFP after 8 month break. My username is still jovi20 and I would love some new friends, so plase add me if you like - we can help each other. Glad to see a familiar face Rubyeskimo - and well done for sticking with it.

    Why????

Chocolate can be incorporated into a healthy eating plan. This thread is about setting and maintaining achievable goals not depriving oneself on faddy starvation type diets.

Chocolate has health benefits just not in huge quantities. The difficulties come with cravings and this is more likely to happen if you are depriving oneself.

Like I said in a previous post the emphasis of this thread is very different to other type slimming threads so please make sure you understand that.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Did really well yesterday...until DH brought down the tin of Danish biscuits... Had a few of those and went on to make a batch of peanut butter chip cookie dough and between the two of us, ate 3/4 of it. :o

I've pledged to do better today, and so far here is what I've had/have planned:
B - 2 buckwheat pancakes with 1 tbsp orange blossom honey
L - leftover hm fish pie with 1 thick slice of applesauce banana bread (what can I say, it's been taking up room in the freezer for a while and needs to go!)
D - vegetarian curry in the slow cooker with hm naan and baked onion bahjis
S - having right now: one bowl of the vegetarian curry

Discovered today that, depending on which beans you use, this vegetarian curry turns out to be right at 100 calories for a pretty big bowlful!
