  • Aw tell you what MrTyo when we get a house you can have a room of your very own!! :p (GG you are the witness to that!)
I was very nice and let him out of the cupboard to sleep in bed last night - not to mention made him breakfast in bed with a cup of tea yesterday :D I should certainly get some brownie points for that right? :A

Pammy- you will do fab and have your house by the sea in no time! not sure on the deposit fund, in my head I always had £100K between the equity in the flat and the deposit fund but have no idea how realistic that is and /or how long it would take! (could do the maths I spose!! ) Round here you are still looking at 3 times that for a decentish house so will still be frequenting this board for many a year yet (so you can all keep an eye on MrTyo's welfare! )

Natty- good luck with the time machine! let me know how you get on ;)

It does surprise me how much my attitude towards money has changed due to this site - I used to want to borrow as much as possibly possible when I first got a mortgage and now Im totally the opposite! Sometimes I do think I take it a bit too far fretting over pennies/ especially wasting food which has become my new thing which can result in some very odd meals and cakes which do no good for the waistline! :rotfl:Its all about middle ground (which I promise I will find one day!)

As long as you didn't do it in a 'look what you could have won' way :rotfl:.

Have you read Rich Dad, Poor Dad? In the follow-up there's a bit about the type of saver/investor you are. One type is where you spend time cutting out coupons to use to save a few pennies, whereas the time would be better spent educating yourself financially and making better investment decisions. Oops, guilty as charged :o (but in my defense there will be a lot of us in the dock ;)). It has made me refocus my efforts to a certain extent, however what it doesn't take into account is how the pennies saved with coupons, Tilly Tidies, chicken in strawberry jam sauce* etc keeps you focused on your long term goal.

Natty - too scared of any time machine like contraptions since I saw The Fly .

    * Ingredients - chicken portions, manky fridge veg, 1/4 jar of forgotten about jam (gooseberry would also work. Not marmalade though as that's approaching normal :)).
To make: chicken in dish, add veg. Open jam jar, gaze in doubtfully. Scrape off mould and add to dish. Put in pre-heated oven (i.e. because something normal is being cooked).
Serve with Approved Food out of date couscous for an authentic Middle Eastern dish. Taste before serving, making sure you have bread & cheese in case you suddenly 'don't feel like a big dinner'

I wish I had started this a long time ago as I would definitely be MF now! (having got the orig mortgage 12 years ago, remortgaged when became single 7 years ago)
we can all say if only but I am so glad I found you could do this 4 years ago as in those 4 years I have gone from a 32 year mortgage to a 5 year mortgage :D
I am sure there are still loads of people that dont know you can OP. I have saved thousands on interest alone. :)

Good luck in your search for the perfect house and location :)

  • Thank God It's Friday is all I can say!!! Its been a loooooong week!! ;)

Just chilling this evening, nothing stressful , made curry for tea from bottom of the fridge veggies and quorn in the freezer, plus a jar of sauce that has been in the house over a year and half a value naan bread! Very nice indeed too! Washed down with a glass of 17p value lemonade! I live the high life I tell you! :rotfl:

GG- thanks for the chicken recipe ! ;) is that one of you and MrGG's favourites? ...
Will definitely have a look into Rich Dad Poor Dad - I do try to do the big things as well like cheapest insurance/ making sure savings get the best rate etc.. but I know I can get bogged down over 1p here and there and waste time that could be better spent earning ten times the money (10p!! :rotfl: ) or relaxing (which money cant buy! :))

Still- as you say, keeps us focused!

Pammy- 4 years, that's fab!! hindsight is a wonderful thing, wish Id thought about it sooner too, but probably wouldn't have been in much of a position to pay much financially (it was a stretch to just pay the mortgage/bills when I got first one!)

    In moneysaving news this week:
*haven't spent money at the shops on lunches- bought packed lunch in everyday!
*got a nice surprise payrise which I wasn't expecting! :) am torn between OPing /saving or blowing it on a nice dinner out and some new clothes ...hmmm...
*done some food shopping in L*dl and Ald* hoping to save some pennies!
*sold a book on amazon for £10

I'll be done with this mortgage in no time at this rate! ;)

Have a lovely weekend all, hope the sun shines wherever you are x
  • Just calculated a rough idea of our virtual MF /owing the world figure which comes out at about £32,300!!:j:j

In practice of course this would mean cashing in ISA's that haven't matured yet , having no emergency fund and no "yearly expenses" for xmas/mot's etc...

But a girl can dream :D:p

Also have a grand total of £18 waiting to become payable from TCB and one dvd set listed on amazon which hopefully may sell at some point!!

Contemplating a declutter of sorts over the weekend as we have a few bits for charity shops/ebay if they are sell-able ...but the sun is shining so wonder how far I will get on that one!

For anyone that is worried MrTyo is being well fed atm ! :A I have a few treats up my sleeve for when it is hollibobs time which is not too many more sleeps!! wooo!! :T:beer::j

Have a lovely weekend all x

i have been let out of the cupboard alot to work recently which is good news money wise! Overtime is usually a rare beast nowadays so i have tried to make the most of it!

This month i have managed to bump up our emergency fund by over £1,000, so although this is not paying off the mortgage, it is giving us more of a buffer in case something should happen, as our EF was not the recommended 6-12months spenditure! Hopefully not too long we will be making people jealous about our mortgages together pammy!(although still long way to go!) I did also treat myself to a shiny new phone!Shhh dont tell her, its the only way i get light in the cupboard!

But you must tell her about the new phone so she can sell your old one

I hope the light doesn't fade to quickly when you are back in your cupboard

Try and stock up on some candles ready for winter, then you will have light and warmth
    Mortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0
    ISA challenge start 2019 £3000/£1500 (50%)
  • Aw MrTyo :rotfl:
Tell you what I will make you a survival pack for the winter eh? you can have value baked beans and pot noodles and I'll even throw in a blanket!

Radish- had forgotten about selling the old phone- good one! ;)

Must do a de-clutter soon to figure out if anything sell-able but don't think there will be much. We tend to re-watch dvds and don't buy too many CDs or books (or do very cheaply so not ones worth re-selling) so may have to be creative with this plan!

3 day weekend this week - hurrah!! Planning on a NSD-weekend of just chilling, reading and sunbathing!
