Hi Happy Now. Moral Dilemmas: When you work out how to live with NOT paying for something you know is not yours by right and can sleep well, let me know.

I 'get' Granny2's TV, and if my OH had been the one who chose it, ordered it, saw the box, loaded it into the car, paid for it and then took it home, I too could have stood aside and let it happen. But when it's my stuff, my money and my conscience, I can't let it happen.

It isn't a moral dilemma at all. You could afford both throws, you were prepared to pay for them, the sales assistant made a mistake and you didn't.
    Better is good enough.

Think of all that good karma that'll come your way. :D

So when the box was brought from the delivery area, checked by the sales clerk, the cashier, the guard at the door and the kind member of staff who helped us carry it out and put it in our car, I stood by keeping schtum about the fact that they had actually brought out the 37"
Ooh yes, I can't wait for my karma delivery! Hope it's something REALLY good. Maybe I'll find a £50 note floating in the breeze in my garden....... :D
I would have kept schtum (awww, no auto correct for me!) about the telly too. If the shop had rung me later and told me they'd made a mistake and asked for it back I would have returned it without qubble, but as several staff members handled it and actually loaded it into your car that's really not your fault. Presumably the only visible difference was that one box said 37" and the other 32". Anyway, it was your OH's money/telly/conscience so absolutely not your place to intervene :D!

All true. Also, can you imagine the embarassment if I'd left the shop after only paying for one throw and a store detective came chasing after me!! In my local shop! I'd never live it down. Anyway, they are beautiful throws and SUCH a bargain at £19.99 each, I would have happily paid even more :).

Well I have been on a spending spree :o. It was a MSE spending spree, but a spree nontheless.

Firstly, I bought a McFlurry (a Crunchie one, they're the best) for 99p because everyone at work was having one and I didn't want to be left out. I'm calling it team building.

Secondly, I was cruising Marks and Spencers and they had a Per Una bra still left in the sale for £5, reduced from £24, and I really needed it and it is a perfect fit and it puts my boobies back where they belong.

Thirdly, on the way to the changing rooms with my bra I 'accidentally' picked up some black cargo pants for £12.50 and they were also a perfect fit.

So, today I have spent £18.49 on not-100%-essential items. To make things worse, it has come out of our grocery budget. In fact it WAS our grocery budget :D. So if at any time between now and next Friday Mr Happy feels hungry, he will have to gnaw on a slice of bread whilst admiring me in my new trousers and bra.

I've got my fingers crossed for that £50 note for you too.

:rotfl: at you wishing for auto correct

If they'd noticed or rung later I would have come clean, although my OH said "not on your nelly" His money, his choice I suppose.

The only difference between the two was a 37 instead of a 32 in the middle of a fairly long code. TBH I don't know how I noticed it when they didn't and my OH didn't believe me when I first told him. If I remember rightly he even got the tape measure out to check it, despite in my opinion it being fairly obvious, the thing looked bl88dy enormous at the time.

TOP TIP FOR VEGGIES. I've just had a trip to Tesco for a few essentials. They are doing BOGOF on Linda McCartneys frozen range. And the Linda McCartney Italian Sausages (the ones in the green box) were already on offer at £1! So that makes them just 50p for a packet of six. They are my absolute favourite sausages, I buy them even at full price (usually between £1.69 and £1,99). They are delicious and they barbecue brilliantly so now's a good time to stock up if you like them. I've just bought six packets - I would have bought more but I've run out of grocery budget - see post above :o!

Hello DdraigGoch, thanks for reading :). It's always nice to have company on the journey so I hope you will stick around. I've been trying to pronounce your username in my head - does it sound like 'DrageGok'? I've googled it anyway, so I know that it means Red Dragon :).

It has surprised me (in a lovely way) a few times when someone has described my debt-free journey as inspiring. Personally, I just see myself as an idiot to have got into this mess in the first place, and what would have been REALLY inspiring would have been to live within a budget BEFORE running up all this debt, not after :D! But if anyone out there can learn from my mistakes, or if this diary helps anyone to see that huge debt doesn't mean life has to be miserable, then I am genuinely delighted. So thanks! x

Generally a lurker but just had to say.................

You must be surrounded by a lot of us idiots then if the number of members of MSE is anything to go by :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously, nobody teaches us how to manage money or budget and we have to learn the hard way. For most of us that is by getting in to debt and climbing your way out. It is a hard lesson to learn but most of us get there eventually :D

  • Seems a lot of after hours drinking and partying has been going on here recently :rotfl: Good to see you're all having a good time.

Re your recent moral dilemma I've had a small one myself. We bought a unit from a Trade Me store and when it was delivered it was bigger than the one we ordered. As Mr F had already put it up we decided to stay quiet about it. I feel slightly guilty but Mr F doesn't. It seems us ladies have more of a conscience about these things than men. :o
