TOP TIP FOR VEGGIES. I've just had a trip to Tesco for a few essentials. They are doing BOGOF on Linda McCartneys frozen range. And the Linda McCartney Italian Sausages (the ones in the green box) were already on offer at £1! So that makes them just 50p for a packet of six. They are my absolute favourite sausages, I buy them even at full price (usually between £1.69 and £1,99). They are delicious and they barbecue brilliantly so now's a good time to stock up if you like them. I've just bought six packets - I would have bought more but I've run out of grocery budget - see post above :o!

Thank you for the tip. We aren't near a Tesco until tomorrow so I am hoping they are still on offer.

I hope you are enjoying the good weather.

You must be surrounded by a lot of us idiots then if the number of members of MSE is anything to go by :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously, nobody teaches us how to manage money or budget and we have to learn the hard way. For most of us that is by getting in to debt and climbing your way out. It is a hard lesson to learn but most of us get there eventually :D

Hi Matymoo, thanks for posting :). I completely agree that most of us are learning our lessons the hard way. I know Martin is campaigning for better financial education in schools, and I really can't think of a better thing to teach our children. My own kids (well, young adults) have no idea about the level of our debts and I am trying so hard to teach them the value of money and the importance of avoiding debt. Student loans excepted :o.

I should just add, it's only ME that I see as an idiot, hope I didn't offend anyone!! As I've read these diaries I've seen so many different reasons why people are in debt; some hit by the recession, or unemployment, or sickness, or changes of circumstances etc etc. Loads of different stuff. Then there's me, who just spent more than I had and didn't realise how deep in the sh*t I was getting until I was in a big mess. Ah well, whatever our individual reasons, we're all on here because we're doing something about it now, and as Matymoo says, we will get there eventually (2019 in my case :D).

Re your recent moral dilemma I've had a small one myself. We bought a unit from a Trade Me store and when it was delivered it was bigger than the one we ordered. As Mr F had already put it up we decided to stay quiet about it. I feel slightly guilty but Mr F doesn't. It seems us ladies have more of a conscience about these things than men. :o
Ooh yes, I would have definitely kept quiet about that too. It would have been a real hassle swapping it once it was up and it would have been your hassle for their mistake. I'm with Mr F on this one!

I've just had a look on the Tesco website and none of the range is showing as bogof so it might have finished. Shame :(. The Italian ones are still showing as £1 a packet though and they're a bargain at that, but naturally 50p is better :).

Really fed up today :(:(:(. I've just checked my bank account and I exceeded my overdraft limit yesterday. That'll cost me £25. I'm so stupid, I knew I was nearing the limit until our tenant's rent goes in, and I meant to check it yesterday to make sure I didn't go over, but I got really busy at work and forgot. The most irritating thing is that I had more than enough money to cover it in my little saving pot accounts - if I'd just remembered to look I could have moved some straight across. I've thought about ringing and pleading with them, but it's Barclays and they are very clear that if you go into your reserve overdraft they WILL honour your debits (up to £1000) but you WILL be charged, no exceptions. All this scrimping and saving then £25 thrown away just like that......:(. Bum.

I'd just been patting myself on the back for getting my motivation back too. I listed another item on Ebay at the weekend when it was free for 'Buy It Now' items and finally got round to joining Green Metropolis and listed some books.

Ah well, I shall allow myself a sulky cup of coffee, then look for a way of making £25 back. I've made a bit of a start because I've just had an email from SuperSavvy saying I've been accepted for their Fairy dishwasher tablet trialling. Not sure how many samples they will send but it's got to be a few quids worth and they say to expect them by the end of this week :o

Oh how annoying, but oh so easily done. If I was you I'd try to get it refunded. You never know and if you don't ask you won't get but if you do, the worst they can say is no.

I'm sure you'll recoup it and more besides and yey to the samples. As they say, every little helps. I got some face cream and 10 clipper teabags in the post today and the tea smells yummy. Haven't tried the face cream yet, too exhausted after long journey.

  • Hi HappyNow, I would definitely check whether they would reimburse you, but also see whether you can set up an automatic sweep to stop it happening again :)

Me too! I got the email to say I'm a Fairy tester!

I've done the over the limit thing too. It's so frustrating when it's your fault too :( I echo the others, phone up and do a bit of grovelling, terribly sorry and all that. They can only say no, they might surprise you....

    Thanks Tilly and Piq :).

I know I should try for a refund from the bank but I just can't bring myself to ring them. I really don't have a leg to stand on, it was a fair cop! My overdraft limit is £5000 and the account literally NEVER goes into credit. I am pretty embarassed by that, and I don't want to have to talk about it with the bank staff. Last time I was forced to ring them they asked me about whether I needed help, should I be looking at converting it to a loan etc. It was all a bit humiliating and actually I have deliberately decided to leave the overdraft as the final debt to bust. The interest rate isn't too silly and the first £1000 is free. But the main reason for leaving it until last is psychological. If I was to tackle it first I would be at risk of running it up again in an emergency and I don't want to have that option available to me. On the positive side, it turns out that the fee is £22 not £25, so I've not wasted as much as I thought!

Well my trial Fairy dishwasher tablets arrived yesterday. Twenty of them and they smell very nice. I only buy cheap ones usually or ones on offer so these seem really luxurious :D.

So far no-one has bought my books or ebay item. As I'm decluttering and don't want stuff hanging round for too long I'm also going to check into Amazon Trade In for books, and I've signed up for Music Magpie too.

  • Morning HN, thanks for the tip about Amaz@n trade in, I have some books which I was contemplating car booting and will try that instead

I understand the problem of the overdraft, we were exactly the same until 18 months ago when I started lurking here :o. It's taken the year of lurking to clear that and when I started the diary in November last year, we were ready to start the MfW haul - I absolutely know how wearing it is.

I have learnt so much from this site - my fairy hasn't arrived but look forward to trialling it with you.
