  • Just a tip of how I got out my overdraft situation. I asked the bank to reduce by £50 per month. Much less painful.

My overdraft limit is £5000 and the account literally NEVER goes into credit. I am pretty embarassed by that, and I don't want to have to talk about it with the bank staff. Last time I was forced to ring them they asked me about whether I needed help, should I be looking at converting it to a loan etc. It was all a bit humiliating and actually I have deliberately decided to leave the overdraft as the final debt to bust. The interest rate isn't too silly and the first £1000 is free. But the main reason for leaving it until last is psychological. If I was to tackle it first I would be at risk of running it up again in an emergency and I don't want to have that option available to me.

Well my trial Fairy dishwasher tablets arrived yesterday. Twenty of them and they smell very nice. I only buy cheap ones usually or ones on offer so these seem really luxurious :D.

Exactly the same reason why I'm leaving my overdraft until last. I know I'd use it in an emergency and it would be money paid back wasted. I haven't been in credit on mine for years either. I'm pointed at the last two cards, then I'll tackle the overdraft.

My tablets arrived yesterday too! I didn't take photos of the family gathered round whilst I opened the package, as suggested, did you?:rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi

I'm intrigued to know about the site your using to trial products, sounds like something I would find very useful...especially if it's laundry related, my washer's never off

I agree with your od being the last debt to tackle, I'm hoping to decrease mine as and when I can, I upped mine to the max to stay afloat during maternity leave but they are so hard to get rid of but short of winning the lottery, there's not a lot I can do about it at the moment.

Keep up the good work :)

Red wine or not it most definitely was not me that was sik in the corner after granny and I had our late night party! Apologies for all the mess, next time I will make sure granny tidies up ! :rotfl: we will all be very noisy in order that you wake up and never miss your own party again!

I can't believe you and Piq have received your trail laundry tablets. I don't think I got he email :( we're they the same people trialling the dishwasher tablets that I could never have used because I still have no dishwasher ?!

I agree with leaving the overdraft until last , but I would definitely try and ask them to refund the £25, if you dont want to call them , maybe put a quick letter together. They can only say no, but it's worth a try.

Glad to see you seem to be doing so well during my enforced absence x

I got my tablets as well and no I didn't take any photos. I paid one overdraft off by asking the bank to reduce it by a weekly amount. £1900 paid back sort of painlessly.

Hi MM, thanks for dropping by and good luck with your debt-busting :).

The site for trialling is www.savvycircle.co.uk. I signed up in January this year and so far I have done two trials - this Fairy dishwashing tablet one plus one for Olay Total Effects face cream. The samples are generous and they usually include money-off vouchers too. You are expected to complete questionaires on the products but it doesn't take long and it is actually quite fun! There are probably more sites, and I keep meaning to check, but this is a good one that I just stumbled across. You've missed the Fairy one now, but get signed up and they will email you when another one is available x

Thanks for the suggestions :). I think that is the best way for me to tackle it when it eventually comes round to the overdraft's turn (approx 2017 :D). At £5000 it is too big to clear in one hit, and overdrafts are just too easy to access, so definitely as I reduce it I should ask the bank to lower the limit so I can't use it again. I've checked into the interest rate today and it's 0% for the first £1K, then 14.9% for everything over that so I think I need to try to juggle my direct debits so that I keep it as low as possible for as long as possible each month. Hmm, I need to look at that, thanks for prompting me :).

Hello, welcome back :). I shall nip across to yours and see what you've been up to. No worries about the party up-chuck, it's all cleaned up and it didn't leave a stain on the page :D.

The trial IS the dishwashing tablet one, not laundry tablets, so you haven't missed out. They're very posh ones, right up your street (if you only had a working d/washer).

I've been thinking about contacting the bank either by phone, letter or email but it is making me stressed so I have decided against. I don't want to bring myself to their attention - I expect I'm only looked at by computers at the moment and it's probably worth £22 to keep it that way!! Lesson learnt though, it won't happen again.

Ha ha, no photos here either. If I had, mine would have been a very bizarre one of Mr Happy excitedly tearing open the box thinking it was a book he'd ordered, followed by one of his very puzzled, disappointed face. Not what they were after at all :D.

I'm so upset they didn't pick me for the dishwasher tablets, maybe I'm just not posh enough ! :(

Can just imagine poor Mr Happys face when the parcel wasn't the book he ordered ! :rotfl:
