My mother and father who are both disabled had water pipes burst in their bungalow on December the 28th and still have yet to get back into their home. Now 7 months after the house is just starting to be stripped after Prudential have picked the far lower quote of the 3 tenders. It now seems the preferred builder they have chosen is trying to make as much money as possible out of them. This I'm putting an end to now. After one loss adjuster was taken off the claim due to his poor service. He did nothing for months and went on holiday when he told my parents he was organizing the claim also. The question I have is this. I bought my parents for Christmas and birthdays a sofa and a couple of other items over the years as they have little money. Will they be insured for these goods ? I think the adjuster is trying to say that these goods belong to me even though they are presents I bought for my parents and I have my own home and do not live with them ? Also the policy states that in an emergency they would respond in 4 hours ( they pay extra for this ) yet it took 3 days for anyone to even contact them and sort the water leak out. It was my sister who eventually called a plumber to come!!!. The other question is that the loss adjuster has given us a list of those things that the Belfor has listed as beyond repair to get rough estimates of price. Yet he ticked all the higher priced electrical goods that are listed with make and model and has said he will get the costs for these. The policy is old for new so I cant understand why he said he would try and get suitable replacement. Bottom line is he is trying to screw two 70 year old people and I would like some advice if you could. Also who to turn to if this continues. Thank you.0

A present from you to your parents would be covered by their contents, if the LA quibbles it write a letter confirming it was a gift.
If you are having problems, ring the Insurer (With your parents to hand to confirm you can speak on their behalf). Be polite and stick to the facts and ask for a supervisor and ask them to help you out0 -
Hi, my buildings and contents insurance is up for renewal in a couple of weeks, however we have sold our house and waiting for that to go through. So really I don't need an annual policy but rather a policy to cover for 2 or 3 months until we move.
Does anyone know any companies that do short term insurance? I've searched for quite a while online and it seems to be a wild goosechase ending up taking me back to annual quotes.
I have also spoken to our current insurer, but they won't extend our policy to cover the period, they insist on another annual policy, which when we move I would then have to pay a £20 admin fee, and then any increase due to larger house etc. I am reluctant to do this, as when we move I want to be able to find the best priced annual policy for that property, whereas the increase the current insurer may add on, may well not be the cheapest or best.
I hope some clever person out there knows the answer for me!

Hi there,
I'm thinking of doing my home insurance through quidco, obviously for the cash back, but when I click to go through the motions with my selected insurer, a pop-up appears saying that they need my bank details to continue... My question is then; Is it safe to enter these details through the quidco site..??
Many thanks in advance, Steve...0 -

Quidco will need your bank details to send the cashback although I cant remember a pop up requesting them !!0 -
Thanks for the reply, maybe 'pop-up' was maybe the wrong term, it was probably another window that opened and it stated that I couldn't proceed with this provider unless I entered details for bacs payments... Does that make more sense...?.
Thanks, Steve...0 -
Help!!! Im livid. Our garage was broken into and cleared out of mountain bikes, tools, camping eqpt the lot 7 weeks ago. Our insurance company have validated the claim as we sent in photos and receipts for everything. They have now come back to me and said although the claim is valid we are not insured as it is a council garage not attached to the home and is at the end of our cul de sac!!! I informed them last february and have the letter to prove it that I informed them of this, they are denying receiving it even though the letter is there and sent to them and that they still took my premiiums monthy!!
What can I do, I feel the victim of 2 crimes now - the burglary and the treatment from UIA insurance, I informed them 18 months ago of the garage and its took them 7 weeks and loads of evidence of ownership and are now not paying me because of this ridiculous thing.....please help I am so angry.

I have been with RIAS for contents insurance for 7 years and had 'bells and whistles' cover so didn't mind paying over the odds as I felt they had a good reputation but today I have 'walked'.
I phoned some time back with two queries -
1. Were my contents covered whilst in a secure container on my front garden during rewiring of the house.
2. Was my son's £1,500 cycle, individually specified in the policy, covered while he did a sponsored cycle across France and Switzerland.
I have received 3 letters from them asking me to contact them because they had an old phone number despite me giving them it twice and them assuring me they would chase the underwritters up for a decision.
Today, my contents from the container have been back in the house well over a week and my son is now on day 8 of his 10 day cycle: http://www.cyclefrance2011.com/cycle-route/ and they still do not have an answer to either of these questions which I felt they had plenty of time to deal with. All they can tell me is they want another £40 a year to cover my son's bike under the normal cover!
So now rather than paying £41.50 a month I am only paying £20 for superior 'bells and whistles' cover including my son's bike abroad and RIAS and I have parted company for good. When will these companies learn they have to earn customer loyalty?
Yes, I do feel silly to have been paying double what I should have been for 7 years, especially when I am usually so good at listening to :money:

Hi , i wondered how do i insure my house this year?
last year my house was a standard 3 bedroom semi detached..but during the winter i built an extension that atached it to the kitchen
on the drawings its presented as a big living room open plan.
but aFTER 3 months of completion i left the living room as it used to be and seperated the extension in 2 rooms .
do i fill the insurance form online for 5 bedrooms now?
on the upstairs floor 1 girl ocupies 1 room as a lodger does this have to be stated aswell
or i d be better of calling them instead of trying online?
thank you for any advice0 -
