So I used the RBS "we will beat your renewal quote if you are an RBS account holder", not actuall expetingthen to deliver.

I currently pay £176 with Aviva for decent but standard cover. Using all the comparison sites etc gave prices of £200+.

I called RBS who initially quoted £350! When I told them I currently pay £176, they revised it to £151.

    Result!
  • Hi, hopefully this question is a simple one...

Are most building insurance policies "up to scratch" for lenders?

I mean, is it possible that a lender will decide they won't give me a mortgage because the buildings insurance we have selected does not fulfill their requirements?

My lender is Woolwich, I'm a FTB and I'm looking around for my first buildings insurance cover.

    Thanks!
  • Hi

I've recently been trying to negotiate with M&S on my home insurance renewal for contents and buildings. It's gone up by 27%. I know that a lot of insurance has increased but this seemed excessive. I wanted to stay with M&S as their policy is very good, unlimited cover for buildings and a generous contents so you don't need to worry about underinsurance. After a few phonecalls and a few questions I managed to work out that they'll match a like for like new quote that I get on their website for a new policy. So now I've got a quote for £75 cheaper than what I paid last year and I can get £45 cashback on quidco plus as I have an M&S card I get 2000 points - woo hoo. I've saved nearly £300 from the original quote. You just need to phone them with the new quote reference number which you get when you press save once you've been quoted the new price and they'll match it if it's exactly the same details on the policy.

Hello could anyone tell me if they have had an insurance renewal offering Saga Price Match as in previous years i have had a leaflet advising that if I can find a cheaper quote they will match it but this year no leaflet and i can't find it on their site either so I am assuming that they have stopped offering this or it is only the chosen few who they send a leaflet to
Needless to say i will ring and ask but would like to know if anyone has been offered the Price Match so that i can say that i know they are still offering it
    Thanks

Same here, had the renewal quote from the Prudential - £142. Initial quote on the RBS website £327. Phoned them up, as a current account customer they then quoted me £117.:T

Thanks to MSE I have just made a saving of circa £350 on my buildings and contents insurance. Have been with Nationwide for years. Never made a claim. They recently sent me a renewal which had jumped to nearly £750 which seemed excessive. I called and they said that was the best they could do. Read up on MSE used the comparison sites and sourced slightly superior cover from another supplier for £400. Thanks
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

Does anyone know which home insurance companies in Northern Ireland offers cover for the theft of home heating oil?

BTW the home insurance is due to expire at midnight!
  • Hi
I hope that i have posted this in the right section. I am wondering if someone can help me , i am with an insurance broker who i have been with for over 10 years, my home insurance needs to be renewed in January and its paid in full up until that time. I have just rented my house out and have asked for a quote for landlords insurance, the person who works for the brokers whom i have dealt with for the past 10 years took absolutely ages to get back with me with a quote (over 3 weeks) and after various calls prompting and reminders about them getting a quote, i was getting rather exasperated with them so I did do a quick check myself as i was getting fed up with waiting I and found much cheaper quotes that the figure to finally came back to me with which was a quote of £300 which matches my current insurance and has said that i need to pay this in full and i will get a refund on the house insurance that i have paid up until January, i asked him whether i could just swap with insurance over with my current company towergate so that i did not have to pay until January and he said that i could not do this. I said that i would try to find out. I do feel exasperated with the company as its taken him ages to get back to me and they also quoted my mum an extortionate amount for insurance for a car that she used to have. I rang Towergate to ask them for advise on swapping my insurance over but they said i would have to speak to my broker. I have decided i do not want to use their services anymore, please can someone advise. I usually pay them upfront for my insurance and i had a claim 5 years ago. many thanks for any suggestions.
