I have had my renewal through from More than & they have increased the premium by 15% this year. If I go online and get the quote from then like for like then it is £80 cheaper. Is it legal to do it this way?
Also is there any relevence in having a joint policy, the reason I ask is that we have always done this but when I phoned up yesterday to enquire about something they asked who the insured was and the primary holder is my OH although I am sure that I would have put my name firstComping from May 2012
Thank you to all that post & contribute, I think you are wonderful, I could not achieve without your help0 -
My home insurance until 25 / 2 with Barclays. If I did not renew with them, and instead to adopt a new policy with Barclays Quidco Does anyone see a problem doing.? It's the same cost of renovation and new quote £ 133.00.
Naturally I would receive £ 125 cashback. Thank you for the inspiration!0 -
I thought I'd share details of my savings as a direct result of advice from MSE.
My buildings/contents renewal quote was £215.11 with the Halifax.
I went to the various screenscraper sites and found esure wanted only £132.50 for a policy which better fits my needs. That's already a saving of £82.61!!
Went through quidco to get cashback of £45.00.
So..if Quidco tracks properly then that's a total saving of £127.61!!
Thank you all!0 -
How about this little tale.
My home insurance renewal arrives and I follow the process on here (as I always do) and turn up a policy, again with my current insurer Churchill, for £30 less plus quidco, I then buy this policy online.
Due to the auto-renewal bit on the renewal letter I contact them and tell them that I dont require this ever useful service.
Confirmation arrives that the policy will lapse and I think nothing
more of it and file the new policy documents.
Last week I get a new letter thanking me for renewing my policy with them at the renewal price.
Somewhat aggrieved I contact them again asking that they refund the money they have helped themselves to and in doing so notice that the old policy number and my new business policy number are the same. Suspicious now, I also ask that they confirm that I have actually got a policy with them as I have paid twice for it.
The response to this is a letter telling me that I dont actually have any insurance and as I 'cancelled the policy' they are also charging me £26!
I am naturally looking forward to the response to the strongly worded letter I've sent.0 -
I'm currently trying to get home insurance on my two bed mid terraced house.
In the questions it asks for the estimated rebuild cost, I did an online calculation and it came back at £106,000.
The thing is the house only cost £17k! If it fell down, I wouldn't want to be spending anywhere near that amount to rebuild it as it simply isn't worth it.
But putting my rebuild cost in at £106k makes my insurance ridiculously expensive.
Does anyone know if there is a way around this, and what would happen if I put in a lower rebuild cost?
Thanks for any help0 -

I presume it is legal, but probably not ethical. More than always do this with all their policies. I recently renewed my car insurance for example. They wanted to charge £450. I did the same as you and did an online quote for £390. I then called them up and they gave it to me for £400 and no claims protection!0 -
I have my own question. I know John Lewis and M&S are both offering unlimited contents insurance on their policies, but are anyone else doing it too?0

Churchill, I mean how hard can it be?
How about this little tale.
This is one of the reasons I often do not agree to setting up an auto-renewal. So many factors get in the way, the big thing is time and memory. I usually pay by annual lump sum0 -
