JP be prepared for the possibility of them doing a "Cognitive Interview" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_interview it is often carried out on theft claims. Very roughly they will ask the same questions differently worded a number of times and ask you questions that do not sound relative eg what clothes you were wearing etc etc. The idea is that a liar thinks up a scenario but does not go into great detail so the differently worded same questions detect this as do the obscure questions

It is a technique that detects lies, don't be worried if you make a mistake as they will be trained to spot innocent mistakes. Do not be tempted to lie as they will spot them.

It can sometimes make people feel guilty but if you tell the truth the Loss Adjuster will realise this and the technique means they can advise the Insurer the description of what happened is genuine

Just doing a requote for house insurance. I clicked the choice that the house is used for business use. My partner is a graphic designer and works in an office but also does some work from home. Im allowed to choose either: no business or professional use, regular business visitors to the property, clerical business use only, or other business use. I clicked 'other business use' and all quotes are coming through as not insurable. This seems ridiculous! Would his work count as 'clerical use'? I dont want to get a quote for something we are not covered for. Can anyone help please?!

Edit: just tried adding clerical business use instead and we are still not quotable. Worse still, there was subsidence 20 years before we bought the house (so over 28 years ago) - house was underpinned. We arent quotable for that either. ANyone know of any companies which will quote us having had subsidence?

    Hi Magoogy,

It seems like its going to be treated as a wear and tear. Moreover, you have to pay £50 excess and the cost of repair might be actually less than that.

On top of that, you will lose the no claim bonus for all the years and it could affect the premium on renewal or if you decide to go with another provider.

    Overall, not worth it!!!
  • Currently have home and contents with Barclays which they assure me is not the cheapest but one of the best, new quote about £30 per month. Have provisionally renewed via Swinton's with Allianz.

When I rang up to make sure my Barclays one will be discontinued the advisor said I really must read the small print with the Allianz one because although it is £5 cheaper per month at £25 it may not cover as much and I may regret it. So I agreed to hang off until I had time to read the small print on the new policy when it arrived. It's all so confusing and trying to compare seems so difficult. What are the most important things to look at?????.....the Barclays man on the phone went on and on about checking to see if any work that may be done was guaranteed and all sorts

    Any thoughts???

Try a comparison site and I bet you will get it cheaper still. You should also be able to check out the cover before you buy.

It looks as if my partner's mobile phone has been lost/stolen. We'll be making a claim in the morning (phone lines are currently closed) via our bank account insurance (Natwest Advantage Gold).

My query is: since we are not claiming from our household insurance, will we need to declare this to our household insurers? If so, would it just be at renewal or do we need to inform them now?

My partner has phoned the mobile provider who has barred the SIM and phoned the police to obtain an incident reference number (both within 24 hours of noticing the incident - she last used the phone this morning). Is there anything else she needs to do (other than phoning the bank insurance provider) to minimise the risk of any complications for the claim?

    Thanks.
  • hi, my insurance is up for renewal and my renewal doc states a claim where they did not pay out on. It was an accidental damage claim and they said i was not covered for the accidental damage i caused! anyway when i am obtaining quotes if i add the claim on it increases the cost by £200!!! Do i need to disclose this as there was no pay out...? is there any way of getting around this?
