I doubt your policy is with Lloyd's as of Lloyd's of London, if it is and you have a standard home insurance then the chances are it iis poor cover / claims service0

I'm in the process of sorting out my Home Insurance and have had quotes from the following companies:
MoreThan
Churchill
Sheilas' Wheels
Esure (who I think underwrite SW)
Prudential (who I think underwrite Churchill)
LV
Tesco (who I'm already with)
Does anyone have any advice on any of the above, ie avoid like the plague, or reliable if having to make a claim (though I hope I never have to make a claim!). I know I can get cashback with some of the above, but would rather go on reliablility if necessary.
Anyone?....0 -
They are all fairly ok, Tesco are underwritten by UK Insurance which is RBS who also own Churchill and Direct Line.
Have a look at the total excess they are quoting as most will quote you with say a £150 voluntary excess which most people will assume is all they pay towards a claim. It is actually the voluntary plus any Compulsory or Policy Excess. Personally I would keep the total excess to between £50 and £100.
Morethan have an offshore call centre so once you are past the quote stage you will end up with the offshore call centre for claims and customer service0 -
I have taken out contents ins as my landlord covers the property, the quote came in at £72 and I got £30 cashback on top via topcashback which means my total is £42 for basic content ins.:money::beer:0

You can register with a cashback site such as TOPCASHCACK.CO.UK or QUIDCO.COM so that if you visit an insurance company/broker's website and buy insurance from them, having gone through the cashback website, you can get cashback for doing so. The amount varies depending on the insurance company, neither is the cashback guaranteed. The purchase doesn't always "track", so it shouldn't be the reason you choose a particular insurance company. Check out Martin's guide HERE for details of how it works. Also, if you check out the links I've provided for a couple of the cashback sites, you'll be able to see what companies offer cashback through their websites.0 -
i;m fuming!!
got our renewal notice today from Aviva and its doubled since last year!! how can that be?? we've not made a claim. nothing has changed in the house or anything!!
rang them and said that only our broker (your move) can look at our details and they will know why its so expensive.
we are meant to use norwich union/aviva as part of our leasehold agreement. so first thing monday, i'll be ringing to see if thats still the case.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
Can anyone suggest an insurer who is able to take a sensible view and insure my home which is within 50 metres of a stream. I often can't accept standard assumptions and several insurers will not quote because of it. It's a stream not a major river and is about 9 feet below ground. Therefore any rise in water level would have to be huge to have any effect. This seems to be a new issue due to increasing summer floods.
Any leads gratefully received. Need to renew by 1 Jan but renewal quote very high.
Thanks.

Feeling the pinch but trying to bring down that mortgage - thank heavens for MSE.com!

Try a local broker or Aviva0

Are there any deals on home and contents post xmas?0

My current deal for building/contents is with Source Insurance, my premium is £435.30, although that's if you pay it in one sum, it's really £483.24, which is sneakly NOT put in bold print on the front page like the other figure.
Anyways, i've actually made 3 claims in 6 years, window put through by chav, I left tap on and flooded house (whoops) and radiator blew up and flooded house a second time. In processing the claims they were quick, helpful and paid out....so i'm tempted to just stick with them but wanted to see what's about.
Does the above figure seem outlandishly high with 3 claims against me already? the only other thing i've noticed is they have stated 'building sum insured £92,739' when houses the same are going for £80,000...so may take that up with them..
advice? oh...and this policy is October to October, only just getting around to analyzing all my outgoings...so may have to wait til renewal comes around again?
happy new year!0
