FYI - most insurance companies use the Environment Agency's flood zones (you can see them on their web site) however, Norwich Union bought their own datset a few years back, which at the time was more accurate - a finer grid size, so sometimes they can insure where others wouldn't. If you have been refused because of this issue it is worth trying them as they will be using their data.0

I have seen the Aviva deal, free content insurance with buildings insurance, does anyone know if this is any good?
Many Thanks
I put my details into Aviva last night and the quote they gave me was still about £40 dearer than the cheapest result on compare the market. In fact their quote would have been pretty near the bottom of the list on the comparison website and they were even more expensive than my current insurers.
Personally, I think the free contents is a marketing con, all they've done is hiked their buildings insurance cost.0 -
Aviva deal for me comes out cheapest and £70 cashback on top, not everyone will be better off , so its always worth checking out everyone you can0

In my search for some cheap Contents Only Insurance this week:
Best quote I've had so far was from the AA.
*Accidental Damage Cover
*Contents Cover up to £40,000
*Single Item cover upto £1500
Total Cost: £7.41/month0 -

It's a very large topic and a lot of the posters on MSE do not agree with all of the official MSE advice on home insurance. If you could post some specific questions we can do our best to answer them / give our opinions0 -
Hi I am stuck! Am looking at a renewal quote for buildings and contents from Aviva for 211.50 from £183.50.
If I go through a cashback site, e.g quidco there's a £70 cashback and the contents is free when buildings insurance is taken out- for new customers. Is it possible to be a new customer online and not get penalised with no claims over 5years and get cashback? Or should I negotiate by ringing them....?
And when i go to the Aviva site and get a fresh quote, the amount is exactly the same as the revewal.....0 -
I only need contents insurance and missed the 50% ofer on direct line as I was sorting my mothers out and forgot my own! Unfortunately this means I would now have to pay £368 for a year in my 2 up 2 down north london rented property, with accidental damage butno items off the property. Any ideas for savings?
Also if I did add on things insured off the property, could i claim if one of my dogs got stolen outside whilstbeing walked if I don't have them covered on pet insurance if I declare them, as this has hapened before to me - just a thought as they are more expensive than a laptop and I have had this hapen before0 -
Home insurance excludes live stock and living things although it generally includes Public Liability for your pets0

Taking out my first ever home insurance policy. Anyone know of any deals out there for new customers or can offer any advice? After buildings and contents.0
