Hi, well I've just found out that my insurance company (Royal sun alliance through Lloyds TSB) has secretly and 'temporarily' increased my excess from £50 to £200.
I'm guessing this is in part due to a claim a couple of years ago for a new digital camera (about £400)
I am not staying with them but I do not know how to get a good new quote. i am mistrustful of the lowest prices and want to know of any recommendations?0 -
I have a mis-selling problem. Having insured my house for nearly 30 years with the CO-OP, I contacted them in March to complain about the high premiums I was paying (£700) for a 4-bed flat and to inform them that I was doing B&B at home and might have up to 4 or 5 guests at times. After about 2 hours off and on the 'phone to a young woman who didn't seem to know anything and had to keep consulting other people and getting back to me, she said that I was only covered for 2 guests and any damage caused by additional guests would not be covered. I accepted that and was under the impression that I was on a new contract and would be paying £630 per month in future. Realising I have still been paying over £60 per month I called Co-Operative Insurance again and was told that they will not cover me for any claim at all. However they won't give me a refund, even though they wouldn't have paid out if I had made a claim over the last 8 months!.
Does anyone have any advice about this? Now I have discontinued the policy and need to find an insurer who will cover me for working from home and obviously want a refund.0 -

I received my renewal quote from Tesco (£480) which was significantly up from last year when i received the first-timers 50% discount. I went on to confused.com and also to the Tesco site direct. The quote from Tesco's direct was £283 - they are doing 50% discount again this year (thanks to MSE for pointing this out). I also had cheaper quotes from other insurers as low as £200. I called Tesco, asked if they would match the 50% discount (figured if they did not i would go elsewhere) and they matched a quote from Privilege of £275 - they could do this as they both have the same underwriters. So, same insurance, same terms, £200+ "saved", i.e. not spent!
Hope it helps someone.
I had a similar experience last week - phoned them up and said that the renewal was too high, the guy put me through to cancellations I explained that it was too high and I couldn't afford it and they offered to knock 40% off the premium there and then which I accepted - no haggling! Probably could have shopped around a bit and saved a bit more but simply don't have the time this week!0 -
Hi
I think my combined buildings and contents insurance is too high, comparing against friends who have similar properties in different area of the same city. So I am trying to investigate if there is some incorrect historical information recorded on my area or house, but don't know where to start - any help would be appreciated?
I always do a large comparison at renewal timel, so don't think I am missing anything there.
Thanks!0 -
I'm coming up to the end of my 1st year in a flat with my other half, been looking at quotes for new insurance and checking my esure policy it says there is an admin fee to cancel the policy. If get a new policy with them or another company is that classed as expiry of the policy and therefore i wouldn't be charged a fee?0

Exactly. The cancelation fee is for cancelling. If you don't renew, then yours will lapse (f.o.c.!)0

A friend of mine told me that he actually got paid £20 for taking out his home insurance this year. I thought he was a special case but, reading this, it's obviously more common than I thought. I feel like a right mug at the moment paying near £400 a year for a tiny house in Sheffield!0

I got mine for £220 with Barclays, but only cos I had £50 cashback from them.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

Just got my renewal of which I pay £50 excess, went on comparison site and was quoted half the price even when I entered £50 excess. But when I looked more carefully the £50 excess was on top of the companies standard £100 excess, what a rip off.CHECK THE VERY SMALL PRINT VERY CAREFULLY.I'm gonna stick with someone I can trust.Got a great deal from (AA, I got legal cover,buildings/contents £50 excess, accidental damage, and much more, all CLEARLY shown all for £163.It's also an easy site to use and not too many questions.0

Just want to let others know regarding Norwich Union and Quidco Home Insurance.
They are offering £70 cashback but please read the small print on the Quidco Site before you go ahead.
You need to be aware that this Cashback is ONLY for COMBINED Buildings and Contents Insurance.
Dont get me wrong I am not trying to put anyone off using them its just that you may find it cheaper to get a quote for each from different companies and get 2 cashbacks.
You will have to do a bit of research but you can save £££££££££s.
Hope this helpsI am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!0
