  • I have just received my quote for renewal of buildings and contents. It did seem unjustly high this year so with access to comparison sites and Direct Lines web site I compared like for like quotes. I have saved over £300 and stayed with Direct Line

Moral - Always compare and challenge

That a great saving or just pure spam
  • Hi

I wanted to share this info with you all, I received the Renewal Home Insurance Form - which has gone up to £300.00 for 'Buildings only'. I went onto the Website of my Insurer and requested an identical Policy (I have my booklet to hand), low and behold it's almost £100.00 cheaper if I buy online !

I went onto Tesco Site and managed to save a further £50.00 - so you can see where I'm going for my Insurance this time !

PS - it was the same with my Car Insurance (Same Insurer) saved roughly £45.00 buying online !

What a rip off from the Insurance people

    Thanks
    Leefy
  • Hello everyone, newbie here and floundering a bit. Posted on main Insurance site but think it might be more appropriate here. Completing on a flat purchase 18 Nov - 1st flr flat but I have the freehold for the two flats in the building and have to insure them both. Not a conversion, unusually they are Victorian purpose built. Have tried Confused, Direct Line, Norwich Union, Swinton, Bullseye - the sweeper sites don't have the capability for this non-standard quote and all the individual insurers I've spoken to have said they don't quote in this situation. Can't be that unusual I would have thought, does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks all
  • Can Anyone Help me !!!
I am new to the website and will thank you for your views...
I took a mortgage out with Halifax 8 years ago, 1st one and new to it all.
I got a package deal and was told at that time I had to have there building and contents ins with that specific package.
I have never changed, but each year the B&C ins has got higher and higher.
They wanted 750.00 off me this year, I did a comparison on the web and could not believe how much im being ripped off !!
I rang halifax and they told me that I dont have to have it with them now, yet they have never told me different.
Each year the renewal says there is nothing I need to do the DD's will be
amended and taken automatic with my mortgage payment.
I feel I have been misled for many years!!
Can I make a claim, Im going to write to them to tell them how unhappy I am with them,,,
Please can you help me, has anyone else had this or have I just been
    naieve not renewing!!!

We received the renewal for the above and the amount had gone up £220 in the last year, new premium £445...to renew with Direct Line.. I went to the comparison site and new quotes were coming in at £225... for the same amount of cover..So this morning called Direct Line to cancel.... and guess what...they were able to match the new quote from Tesco's.... and I have got my insurance renewed with Direct Line after all for £225....£220 less than yesterdays renewal letter..... It has paid me to phone them, as they did not want to lose our custom...at least, that's what they said...
So..if the same thing happens to you.. ring them.. it might be worth it

Ive done well today! Having always left our contents insurance to the OH I decided to do it myself this year. The renewel (Barclays) came in a £307!!!! Hes only been paying monthly and they add a £1.50 monthly fee for the priviledge. Managed to get AIG at £121.00 plus went through quidco, if the cashback goes through, it will be £76!! A saving of £231 for a couple of hours work! I'm sure if I'd of spent a few more hours I may have found an even cheaper deal.. but I'm busy busy so for now this is great.:T

  • Am doing an AIG direct quote

It says "how many years no claims bonus (NCB)"?

    we haven't made a claim for > 10 years but haven't officially got a NCB I don't think

    any thoughts?
  • A year ago we, my sister and I, took out a contents insurance with Barclays Bank, after being told, "Dont worry you're covered for every eventuallity."

Well last week our fridge/freezer broke down. i.e the fridge has died while the freezer is working overtime. My sister phoned Barclays and was told, "Sorry but you are not covered for wear and tear or for break down, you are only covered for accidental damage."
Naturally we complained and then we we're told, "Well at least the contents of your fridge are covered, tell them that you had lobster and oysters in it."

We have now put in a formal complaint on both matters and are waiting for them, the bank, to get back to us. PLEASE, if you have a Barclays contents insuance, CHECK YOUR POLICY!!! We were miss-sold ours and are taking steps to...GET EVEN!!!

Surely you got a written copy of your policy.
