Home Insurance Discussion

Beware Tesco Home Insurance - tried obtaining a quote and the main blurb gives an installment apr of 19.7%. If you move through to buy with the installment plan the apr rises to 22.2%. That is very pricey with interest rates virtually at zero. As they say, every little helps - (them)0

I wonder if anyone can help me with this query.
In January 2008 I added my partner to my insurance as he had moved in with me. However, we then between us had 3 claims (albeit small ones) in the previous 3 years. Therefore, my insurance company refused to continue insuring us after the end of that day even though the insurance wasn't due to finish. We then had to get insurance via a broker.
This year, as 2 of the claims are from 2005, we thought we would be able to use any insurance company as we have not had more than 2 claims in the previous 3 years. But on reading the assumptions on a lot of the sites it asks whether we have had insurance cancelled. Does our previous experiece count as being cancelled? If so, will we always have problems and not be able to use websites to get insurance?
Any help gratefully received0 -
Hi there,
I've just had a letter from my insurers, who asked me to renew my
house & contents insurance for over £550. I did an online search for
other quotes (got lost somehow on Confused!), and then went
straight to Churchill online for a quote. They're currently offering
50% off premiums to new customers who haven't made a claim in
the last 5 years. So I got my house, contents, and accidental
damage cover (with a £200 excess on any claims) for abt £78.
Happy Hunting.

PS I found Churchill's online forms far easier to fill in, than those at

I have been looking around for House & Contents insurance and have found some 'good' deals until you add 'accidents in the home' and then it shoots up by around £70 :-( I am in the process of going through the house clearing out, re-decorating, having new carpet put down and having the loft boarded out. So would like to be protected against any accidents. Have not claimed for many years and have accepted that it is not worth making small claims, I simply want to be covered for most eventualities. The best I have come across so far is Barclays who are offering £55 cash back, which would bring down my premium to £170. Anybody found anything to better this?0 -

It's a very high excess, but £78 for house, contents AND accidental damage it's remarkable - shame I just took out the Barclays one.:rolleyes:if i had known then what i know now0 -

I went onto the Churchill site with high expectations, but found their quote to be much higher than £78! The basic policy was £113, with accidental damage for house & contents it came to £156, and this was after all the discounts - which are a bit odd. Although I qualified for the 50% discount, it was only 30%. Nevertheless, it still comes out cheaper than Barclays, although their excess is only £100.
I accessed the Barclay quote through quidco, so expect a return from the site, but how does one know if this has happened (I'm brand new to quidco!) Others on here have quoted £125 back from quidco for taking out policies through them, are there any drawbacks here, as it seems like a very high return.if i had known then what i know now0 -
I've just switched Home Insurance once again. My policy starts tomorrow. Buildings & contents this year cost me £117 with Lloyds TSB.
Oh...one other thing. Did it through quidco. I now have £120 tracked from doing this.
My insurance cost £0 this year, there paying me this time!
THATS GREAT IF QUIDCO PAY OUT?
i have had lots of bad reports about Quidco not paying out, and when they do it can be 6 - 12 months later. BEWARE!!!!0 -
Hi, Does anyone know if you have a car insurance policy with Directline with family legal protection and you then insure another car with direct line and your house. Do you need to purchase family legal pretection on each individual policy?
Thanks for any help you can give me........0 -
avoid the post office like the plague. my mother in law died on the 19th of december and despite being promised 7 days grace last week to sort out alternative cover the policy has been cancelled from the 19th dec and the hosue is now uninsured overnight.0

Hi, I am due to renew my buildings and contents insurance. I am wondering if accidental damage cover is really necessary for either buildings or contents? I live alone and tend to get jobs done professionally. As adding accidental damage to the options makes a difference to the quotes I've been looking at, is it worth it?
I'd appreciate your thoughts....0 -
I have always had separate buildings and contents insurance. I have never ever claimed on the buildings side and the only thing I would want to claim on is excluded by the small print. In my case the premium is based on rebuilding costs. When might I ever need to rebuild? (failing incidents which are excluded anyway). Is there anyone here who just doesn't bother with buildings insurance?
Contents tip: I have found Age Concern to be very reasonable as they were prepared to cover just for my comparatively meagre contents.0
